Smethwick Labour Club are just one win away from winning the division one league title in the Harborne and District Winter League. A hard fought 6-3 win away to Bartley Green Social Club has given them a total of 44 points, two more than second placed Midland Red, who also won 6-3 in their home tie with Quinborne. The Red’s have a slightly better average than Smethwick, but a win would secure the title for the leaders. Third placed George had the best win of the week, handing out a 9-0 whitewash to Quinton Members Club.
Top individual performances were recorded by T.Corbett (Bartley Green F.C) who not only hit a maximum but also chalked up a 160 break. 180’s were also hit by A.Stevens (Smethwick Labour Club) and P.Brotherton (Midland Red).

Cup games have been on the agenda for the Sheldon and District Winter League, first the quarter finals of the Denis Houlders Trophy. Reigning champions Saltley Amateur Gardeners made their exit from this year’s competition when they finished on the wrong side of a 3-2 scoreline against Brook Meadow ’A’. Brook Meadow’s Mark Birch having a 160 break and team mate Robbie Earl recording a 160 finish.
Other teams to win through to the semi finals were Mackadown Social, Sheldon Heath Villans and Small Heath Amateur Gardeners ’A’.
The last four will play off at Lea Hall Sports and Social Club on Wednesday 16th June at 8-15pm.
The semi finals of the Punch Bowl saw Saltley Amateur Gardeners gain a convincing 7-2 win over Sheldon Heath Social, while Brook Meadow beat Fordbridge Social 5-4, Mark Birch on form again hitting a maximum.
In the final Saltley repeated their last four scoreline of 7-2 to lift the title.
The Sheldon Shield semi’s both finished 6-3 with Kinghurst Labour Club and Iron Horse getting the better of their respective opponents Millhouse and Hen and Chickens.
Kinghurst won the final with a close 5-4 verdict.

Mitre extended their unbeaten run in the Small Heath League to nine games with a massive 8-1 win against the Emerald Club. Second placed Victoria 301 Club went one better by beating their local rivals Victoria 9-0 to remain four points adrift of the leaders.
Other results saw Custard House win 7-2 against Victoria Flights and Wagon and Horses gain a close 5-4 win over Potcheen Still.

The Pip Club League will be staging their division two singles knockout tomorrow evening. Playing at the Belgrave Club, Tamworth, the eventual winner will pick up £40 and the runner up £25.
