The Sheldon and District Winter League have been playing off their doubles competition at the league headquarters Lea Hall SPorts and Social. The winners were Olton RBL duo Bob Nixon and John Sidwell, who beat Phil Randell and Ian McLean from Saltley Amateur Gardeners in the final. Losing semi finalists were Mick Hicks and Paul Sunner (Sheldon Dukes) Warren Taylor and Mark Kirwan from Mackadown Sports and Social.

The previous week at the same venue Bob Nixon won the singles competition and now becomes the first person this decade to lift both trophies in the same season.

Tomorrow evening the league will be staging their M & B Cup finals in which Malt Shovel (Premier division), Kingshurst Labour Club (Division one) and Bordesley Labour Club (division two) will do battle. Also the Punch Bowl semi’s and final between Saltley Amateur Gardeners, Brook Meadow, Fordbridge Social and Sheldon Social will be played together with the semi’s and final of the Sheldon Shield which will be contested by Hen and Chickens, Iron Horse, Kingshurst Labour Club and Millhouse.

A reminder that the Sheldon and District Summer League, with 34 teams already signed up are still looking for another two teams to join them in the forthcoming season. Once again Ian McFarlane was in top form in the Brook Meadow Individual League as he rattled off another two 3-0 wins against Jay Murray and Joe Hall to give him a total of 160 points. Jason Evans is the nearest threat Ian has to stop him retaining the title he lifted last season and he has 144 points after beating Mark Elkin 2-1 and Keith Kelly by the same margin.

Dave Elliott played four games this week and hit a maximum in three of them. Against Brendan Lysaght he won 3-0, lost 2-1 to Keith kelly and won 3-0 against Joe Hall. In the tie where he did not hit a 180 he he beat Jay Murray 2-1. Other players hitting a maximum were, Trevor Frost, Keith Kelly, Brendan Lysaght and Bill Cadby.

The division two cup was on the agenda for the Pip Club League this week. In the first round there were wins for Glascote Club, Red Lion ’B’ and Boot Inn against respective opponents Wigginton, Two Gates Club and Red Lion (Polesworth). Winning Post claimed their game against Royal Oak (Kingsbury). The last four playoff saw Glascote beat Winning Post and to meet them in the final Red Lion ’B’ defeated Red Lion (Polesworth).

The final will be staged at the Pip Club on the 21st June.

At the midway point of the Small Heath League’s season reigning champions Mitre are halfway to emulating their last season’s achievement whereby they completed the season undefeated. They have currently played seven of their scheduled fourteen games are still able to boast a 100%win record.
