After seven seasons in the premier division of the Kaliber BDO Inter Counties Championships, Warwickshire will fight next seasons campaign in division one. Playing away to Glamorgan Warwickshire finished their programme with a 24-15 win, but it was just not quite enough as they ended up with a total of 156 points, 29 more than bottom team Staffordshire, but more crucially one less than Cornwall. Both men’s teams recorded wins, the ‘A’ 7-5 and the ’B’ 8-4 with Brian Jones (29.86) and Darin White (28.02) taking the respective match awards. For the fifth consecutive fixture Trina Gulliver (26.86) won the ladies ’A’ award in a 4-2 win, while the ’B’ side went down by the same margin and Dawn Barbier (16.70) was their top player.

Trevor Frost lost ground in the title race in the Brook Meadow Individual League this week when he suffered a 2-1 reversal at the hands of middle of the table Bill Cadby. In his previous game, Frost had a straight three legs victory over Martin Cooper in which he hit two maximums. Frost remains in second place on 187 points, five adrift of leader Ian McFarlane with two games in hand.

Carl Winters and Mark Birch were involved in a high scoring encounter which included no fewer than sixteen three figure scores. Winters hit 6×100 and Birch 9×100 plus a 128 finish. The close 2-1 result went in favour of Mark Birch.

Other players to find the three treble twenties were Jay Murray, Colin Farrington and Gordon Clinton.

The Harborne and District Winter League have been engaged in the play off of their doubles competition. George duo Viv Gould and Eddie Simpson, from a field of 57 pairings became champions with a final 2-0 success against Bartley Green F.C. representative’s Greg Smith and Tony Corbett.

Best darts of the evening came from the semi finals where Gould and Simpson defeated Midland Red’s Tom McGlone and Dave Bourne 2-1, while Smith and Corbett edged out Matt Wakefield and Ade McDermott (Smethwick Labour Club) by the same scoreline.

This coming Sunday (6th May) the Harborne and District Summer League will be holding their AGM at Quinton Members Club. Both old and new teams are invited to attend the meeting with a view to forming the new season. League cup semi finals have been on the agenda for the Sheldon and District Winter League. In the premier division play off’s Saltley Amateur Gardeners had a 6-3 win over Fordbridge Social, while due to a power failure the game between Olton RBL and Brook Meadow was called off and will now be played at Lea Hall Sports and Social Club on 17th May.

RAFA won their way through to the division one final with a convincing 8-1 win against Vaughans. Meeting RAFA in the final will be Stechford Social who beat Ivy Leaf 5-4.

Contesting the division two final will be Farringdon Social and Yardley Ex Flights, who in turn defeated Old Bill and Bull (5-4) and Millhouse (6-3.

The top two teams in division one, Dolphin and Globe met this week on the latter’s board. The result was a close 4-4 draw, leaving both teams locked on 18 points with just one leg of average giving the Dolphin pole position. Both of the top two teams in the second won 5-3, leaders Glascote Club won at Red Lion ’B’ and Two Gates Club were winners at the Wigginton. Third in the table Boot Inn lost ground as they lost 5-3 at Red Lion (Polesworth).
