It was not a good start to 2007 for Warwickshire County Darts Organisation as they returned from Glasshoughton WMC, Castleford where they took on Yorkshire in their fifth of nine fixtures in the premier division of the Kaliber BDO Inter Counties Championship after suffering a 20-16 defeat, their fourth reversal of the campaign.

Saturday’s games saw the ladies earn a 3-3 draw, with Wendy Adams (18.79) taking the lady of the match award. The men’s ’B’, still seeking their first win of the season went down 7-5, their top player, Tony Brown, with a very creditable 30.67 average.

The ladies once again played their part on Sunday, when the ’A’ side chalked up a 4-2 win, to remain unbeaten so far. Trina Gulliver (28.36) took the match award. The men’s ’A’ season got no better as they slipped to an 8-4 defeat, making it four defeats in five, their only joy so far a 7-5 success against Cornwall. Steve Hines 29.47 average gave him the team’s award.

The Sportsmans Rest, with a 160 break by T.Kelly, continue to lead the field in the Four Oaks and District League, their latest win, a 6-3 verdict at home to Old Oscott Arrows to give them a total of 18 points, two more than their nearest rivals Midland Red, who returned from Anvil Nomads with a convincing 8-1 victory.

In the second division, despite a 5-4 reversal at Deers Leap, Red Lion ’B’ hang on to the number one spot but only on average as Boldmere Sports, with a 6-3 win at the Acorn are now on the same twelve points as Sportsmans. Deer’s Leap win as left them just two points behind the leading duo with a game in hand.

3-0 wins over Gordon Clinton and Sean Lysaght has seen Jason Evans take over as leader in the Brook Meadow Individual League. With 34 points Jason is two clear of second placed Trevor Frost, who after beating Colin Farrington 2-1, lost by the same margin in his game with John Burdett.

Three players recorded their first wins this week, Terry Blakemore had a 3-0 victory over Brian Cooper, Brian then suffered a similar defeat when Alan Ashford got his first win of the season and Scott Austin’s first success was a 2-1 result over Alan Ashford.

Midland Red have taken over the top spot in the Harborne and District Winter League after beating previous leaders the George 5-4. Playing on their home board it was the George’s first loss in eleven games and have now dropped to third place behind Smethwick Labour Club who had an 8-1 home win over the Pheasant. Midland Red and Smethwick Labour are the only remaining teams with a 100% win record.

There were two 160 breaks in the game between Raven and Bartley Green F.C, J.Hands for the former and T.Corbett for the latter. However, the all important 5-4 result was in favour of the home side, Raven. Other players having a 160 break were M.Tedstone (Smethwick Labour Club) and R.Passey (Thurlestone).

Biggest win of the week went to Thurlestone, who handed out a 9-0 whitewash to Cock Inn.

It’s neck and neck at the top of the division one table in the Pip Club League with Globe and Dolphin dead level on six points and average. That is not the case in division two where Glascote Club, with three wins in as many games are top with their nearest rivals, Red Lion ’B’ three points adrift.

The draw for the quarter finals of the Bedworth Gateway Open Competition is, Men’s:- Volunteer (Peterborough) or Travellers Rest (Bedworth) v Kineton Social Club (Warwickshire), Fellowship ’A’ (Bristol) or Lamb Inn ’A’ (Telford) v Coventry Housing Club ’A’ (Coventry), White Hart ’A’ (Swindon) or Fellowship ’B’ (Bristol) v Talbot Inn (Worcester), Three Tuns (Banbury) v Royal British Legion ’A’ (Cambridgeshire).

The last four teams remaining in the ladies competition are White Hart ’A’ (Swindon), Rock Fountain (Shrewsbury), Air Balloon Tavern (Bristol) reigning champions and Plough Onn ’A’ (Staffordshire).

The grand finals will be staged at the Saunders Hall WMC, Bedworth on Saturday 24th February. Roll call at 12.30pm with match play commencing at 1.00pm.
