England may well be getting the results in Germany, but back here in the Midlands I for one am not getting the results, darts that is. Everyone has gone football mad and as a consequence league fixtures have been cancelled all over the area so that footy enthusiasts do not miss a single kick.
Nevertheless one league has managed to avoid the temptation to cancel and that is the Harborne and District 401 Summer League and what a show they put on.
In division one there were no fewer than two whitewashes in five fixtures. Divisional leaders Midland Red travelled to bottom of the table Quinton Members Club Flights and returned 9-0 winners and the Red’s nearest rivals George recorded the same result in their away game against Cock Inn. Smethwick Labour Club, who also played away, had a comfortable 7-2 success over Quinton Members Club and third placed Bartley Green F.C. kept the pressure on the top two with a close 5-4 verdict over Old Mill.
Only two fixtures were played in division two both of them finishing with 7-2 scorelines. Hillyfields played at and beat the Pheasant, but the highlight of the division was provided by Raven’s J.Hands. Playing at Bartley Green Social Club Raven were the 7-2 victors, however the most vital statistics were by courtesy of their J.Hands. Hands hit two maximums a further ton and also recorded a tremendous 160 break.
