Darts News – A West Midlands Round Up
The semi-finals of the League Cup in the Sheldon and District League went pretty much as expected with group one leaders Raven Arrows, with maximums from both Zac Prince and Will Naylor, winning 6-1 against Highwood, who are third in the same group, while the other last four game saw Langley Flights, who are third in group three, beat third placed CBMC-A in group four, also by a 6-1 margin.
There were a couple of rearranged league fixtures in which the group four game saw Langley Pints, with maximums from Sean Talbot and Dan Wilkins, beat Maggies 6-2 to replace their opponents at the top of the group table with twelve points, Maggies slipping to second place with eleven points, Langley Pints still having a game in hand on Maggies.
The second fixture came in group five and produced something of a shock result as bottom of the group Mackadown Sports and Social Club ‘B’ held second placed Castle Bromwich Spitfires to a 4-4 draw, Castle Bromwich Spitfires missing the opportunity to take over at the top of the group as they are now on the same fourteen points as the leaders Yardley District Amateur Darts Team, but trail by one leg of average. Mackadown Sports and Social Club ‘B’ remain at the foot of the group on the same five points as the team above them Trident Flights, who are just one leg of average to the good on Mackadown.

The Sutton and District League played their doubles knockout down from the last eight pairs at their league headquarters, Walmley Sports and Cricket Club. Making their exits in the quarter-finals were, T.Vickers & J.Collins (St Thomas Lions), I.Hebberts & C.Green (Great Barr Social), P.Locke & D.Parsons (Old Oscott Arrows), and A.Jones & T.Rubery (Bishop Vesey).
In the semi-finals T.Bryant and J.Bryant (Oscott Social Club) lost 2-0 to T.Colley and J.Grainger (Nomads @ Hollyfields) while H.Riddell and T.Cupkovic (Nomads @ Hollyfields) went to a decider with C.Sammons and S.Abbott (Bishop Vesey) before winning 2-1.
The final was extended to the best of five legs and once again the game went to a deciding leg before T.Colley and J.Grainger won 3-2 with H.Riiddell and T.Cupkovic finishing as runners-up.

The South West Birmingham Clubs League staged their annual Gill Poole Memorial Knockout at Stirchley United. Across the men’s and women’s knockouts there was a superb total of seventy entries with the men’s title going to Matthew Lloyd who defeated Lee Fowler in the final. Taking the women’s title with a final win over Lynne Arnold was Samantha-Jayne Lilley.
All money raised from the evening is going to the Air Ambulance Charity.

Wakefield Warriors continue to impress in the Camp Hill League, their most recent fixture seeing them taking their winning run to three games with a 5-2 success playing away against Big Bull Wanderers who were, prior to the fixture, second in the league table but now drop to fourth place with four points, two fewer than their opponents. Taking over in second place is GGSB their 5-2 home win over Rosey Mac’s also seeing them win their opening three fixtures and trailing the leaders by just three legs of average. Moseley Arms move up into third place from fifth with their third consecutive win, a narrow 4-3 victory at home against Bull Ring Tavern. Cotterills Lane EBAHA suffered a 5-2 home defeat to Shannons Rebels, this being Shannons first win of the campaign, but seeing Cotterills drop from third to joint fourth place with Big Bull Wanders, both teams level on points and average.

Dudley Ex Serviceman’s Club ‘A’ march on in the Netherton Thursday Night 501 League, making it twenty-two consecutive wins when they handed out a 9-0 whitewash to their hosts Rose and Crown (Halesowen) who are bottom of the league table with just one win from their twenty-three fixtures. Dudley Ex Serviceman’s Club ‘A’ now have a twelve points lead at the top of the table as Old Liberal Club, who were second, lost 7-2 at home to Ashwood, who have moved up one place in the table and replaced their hosts in second place with fifty-four points, three more than third placed Old Liberal Club with two games in hand and three in hand on the leaders which could reduce the arrears to just three points, one win.

The Stourbridge and District Wednesday Night League staged the quarter-finals of their League and Shadow League Cups. In the main League Cup, league leaders Raven had a 4-3 win over Old Liberal Club, who are second in the league table, while third placed Stourbridge FC ‘A’ lost their home tie with sixth placed Chop House 6-1. Tenth in the league Swan, had a somewhat surprisingly big 6-1 win over Stourbridge FC Youth who are ninth in the table and on the same ten points as their victors. Another surprise was the 5-2 win from High Acres, who are thirteenth in the league, they beat Bird in Hand ‘E’ who are eighth.
In the last eight of the Shadow League Cup, the biggest shock result was probably the 5-2 win by twelfth placed Fox Inn (Lye) who won 5-2 against Ashwood, who are fifth. Fourth placed Beech Tree Miners went down 5-2 at Plough who are placed seventh. The remaining two fixtures both ended with 4-3 results, wins for Netherton Conservative Club and Wheatsheaf over respective opponents Railway Inn and Five Ways.

Game five in the Black Country Ladies Team Super League brought about no change in the league table with leaders Allen’s Bar ‘B’ winning 3-2 against next to bottom Allen’s Bar ‘C’ and second placed Allen’s Bar ‘A’ won 5-2 against bottom of the table Allen’s bar ‘D’. The top ‘B’ team are on twenty-one points and have a lead of seven points over their second placed ‘A’ side who have played one game more than the leaders.

Claire Hobbs played two games this week in the West Midlands Ladies Super League, she lost 3-1 to Jacqui Simmons and then won by the same 3-1 margin against Kerry Dutton to put her top of the table with nine points, but she has played more games than anyone else in the league. Joint second are Kelly Aston-Fletcher and Jacqueline Maiden, Aston-Fletcher winning 3-1 against Hannah Davies and Maiden winning by the same 3-1 result in her game with Eloise Milburn, to leave both winners, one point behind Hobbs with a game in hand. Fourth and fifth placed Lauren Herrington and Sam Rowley are both a further two points adrift on six points.

Staffordshire Knot consolidated their number one position in the West Midlands Men’s Super League with a 3-2 win over fifth placed Dudley Ex Serviceman’s Club giving them a total of 149 points, fifteen more than second placed Kings Head who handed their visitors, Gilbert’s Bar ‘B’ a 5-0 trouncing to leave them with a game in hand on the leaders and fifteen points to the good on third placed Dog and Partridge.

Gilbert’s Bar laid on another of their popular Bank Holiday Monday Knockouts, Alex Howells winning his semi-final against Kobi Holyhead 3-0 and then joining him in the final was Ben Johnson who in his last four game accounted for Joe Bartolo with a 3-1 result. The final was extended to the best of seven legs and went the full distance with Ben Johnson coming out the 4-3 champion with Alex Howells runner-up.
