Darts News – A West Midlands Round Up

A tough away fixture at the Glasshoughton W.M.C, 152 Leeds Road, Castleford, West Yorkshire, WF10 4PD, where Warwickshire County Darts Organisation would take on, third in the premier division table of the UKDA National League Yorkshire was on the fixture card for Warwickshire’s seventh fixture of the season.

Saturday saw the ladies ‘B’ chalk up a creditable 4-2 win with Macy Gibbons their top lady beating Michelle Binns 3-1 with a 22.41 average. The men’s ‘B’ finished all1square at 6-6 to give the away side a 10-8 lead after the first day’s games. Taking the match award for the men’s ‘B’ was William Naylor who won 4-2 against James Robins and averaged 26.68.

Sunday’s games saw the ladies ‘A’ go down 4-2 with Courtney Hine and Caroline Pike their only winners, Hine, the lady of the match with a 20.46 average in her 3-1 win over, Jane Hawtin while Caroline Pike marked her tremendous 250th appearance for Warwickshire with a 3-1 win against Lily Blanthorn.

Caroline Pike being presented with her certificate for 250 appearances for Warwickshire by County Chairman Neil Pritchard

With the overall score level at 12-12 the men’s ‘A’ required at the worst a draw to get something from the weekend fixture. Unfortunately it was not to be as the home side went on to win 8-4 to give an overall 20-16 result in their favour. A 4-3 win and 29.61 average over Carl Wilkinson was enough for Nigel Heydon to take the man of the match award.

Despite the defeat Warwickshire actually moved up one place in the table to seventh with 129 points, and although they have a game in hand on three of the six teams above them they are a huge seventy points behind leaders Lancashire.

Black Country’s seventh fixture in the L-Style Division One of the UKDA National League was a home tie against Somerset. Going into the fixture Somerset were riding high in second place with 151 points from seven games while Black Country were placed eighth on 111 points from six games.

It was a poor start to the weekend when the ladies ‘B’ fell to a 5-1 defeat with Chez Allcock their sole winner, beating Zoe Liddle 3-1 with a 21.73 average. The men’s ‘B’ managed to reduce the arrears to 10-8 with their 7-5 victory, Neil Steventon topping the averages with his 26.33 and 4-3 win against Jody Matthews.

Once again it was defeat for the ladies on Sunday as the ‘A’ team finished on the wrong side of the 4-2 result, Grace Angell and Heather Wright their two winners with Wright collecting the match award for her 3-2 win over Shelley Cotterell and 16.19 average.

With the overall score now at 14-10 to Somerset, the men’s ‘A’ had a difficult task, requiring at the worst an 8-4 win to see them finish the weekend with a draw. Nevertheless, an 8-4 win is what the men’s ‘A’ got, with their man of the match Jamie Rollinson in top form recording a tremendous 32.32 average in his straight 4-0 win over Leigh Taylor.

The weekend’s draw saw Black Country remain eighth in the table with 130 points, and despite having a game in hand on leaders Worcestershire they are forty-seven points adrift of them.

The best individual performance came from A.Faulkner (Copper Fox ‘M’) who hit two maximums despite his team having another big shock result as they lost 4-3 at home to Weoley Castle WMC who are five places below them in the league table and have ten fewer points. Thimble Mill had the best win beating Harborne Social 6-1 with K.Biddulph notching a maximum for Mill and P.Sitshebo doing the same for the Social.
