Darts News – A West Midlands Round Up

With a maximum from Neil Parsonage and a twelve darts leg from Richard Goldby, Raven Arrows made it five win in six games when they won 6-2 at home against third placed Trident Spears in group one of the Sheldon and District Summer League. The win keeps Raven Arrows in pole position with eleven points and they have a narrow one point lead over second placed Langley Arrows whose Richard Mills hit two maximums, had a 134 game shot and a twelve darts leg in his team’s 8-0 home win over Mackadown Sports and Social Club. The top two teams have both only played six games while Trident Spears have played seven and are four points off the top.

Group two leaders Banbury Club had their fixture with second placed RAFA postponed and so the top two positions remain as they were with Banbury leading with eleven points and RAFA second on ten points. Third in the group Kingshurst Labour Club took the opportunity to reduce the arrears on the top two teams by beating their hosts EBAHA 5-3 but despite the win they are still three points behind the leaders and having played one game more than both the two teams above them.

Week seven results brought about no change in the positions in group three, Old Salts Darts after winning 5-3 away against bottom of the group Shirley Misfits taking their points tally to twelve and keeping them four points ahead of second placed Raven who with a maximum from Stuart Reeve won by the same 5-3 margin at Moseley Rugby Club. Third in the group Sheldon Marlborough Ridge went one better winning 6-2 at home against Langley Flights to keep them within one points of Raven but five short of the leaders..

There was a top of the table encounter in group four with leaders Lyndon Old Boys playing hosts to their nearest rivals Station Inn. With a 180 from Dave Sheridan the home side won 6-2 to take their points tally to eleven, while after suffering their first loss of the season, their opponents have dropped one place in the table to third on nine points. Sheldon Marlborough Flights have taken over from Station Inn in second place following their 5-3 win at Trident Flights, and like Station Inn are on a similar nine points but with a slightly better average.

Leaders of division one in the Shirley and District Monday Night League, Langley ‘A’ finished on the wrong side of a 5-4 result playing athome against Cider House wo are sixth in the league with six points compared totheir hosts ten points. However, despite the defeat Langle ’A’ hold on to the number one spot but are now joined on the same ten points by Bears, Tippetts Bar and Royals. In a catch-up game Bears had a close 5-4 win at Langley ‘B’ but lost by the same margin at home to Royals while Tippetts Bar won their home tie with Stirchley 6-3.

In division two Banbury consolidated their pole position with a resounding 8-1 win away against their nearest rivals Shirley Misfits to keep intact their 100% win record, the only team in the two divisions not to have lost a game so far. Second placed Shirley Misfits are on the same twelve points as Banbury but they have played two games more than the leaders. Nomads are placed third, their 5-4 win at Sharmans giving them ten points from seven games with a game in hand on the team above them, Shirley Misfits while fourth in the division Saracens Slingers were 7-2 winners at Saracens ‘A’ to put them also on ten points but from only six games leaving them with a game in hand on Nomads and two in hand on Shirley Misfits. Bottom of the division Saracens ‘A’ are the only team in the two divisions not to have won a game so far and after playing seven games are still seeking their first points of the campaign.

The South West Birmingham Clubs League are up to week seven and heading both the division one singles and division one pre-match doubles leagues is Northfield Darts Club. The singles league leaders stretched their undefeated run to seven games with a 4-3 win at Quarry Lane Club to give them a perfect fourteen points, six more than the chasing pack of three teams, Northfield Conservative Club ‘B’, Stirchley United and Quarry Lane Club. Northfield Conservative Club ‘B’ were involved in a local derby with Northfield Conservative Club ‘A’ with the former getting the 5-2 result. Stirchley United had a home tie with next to bottom of the division Kings Norton Ex Serviceman’s Club and suffered a 5-2 defeat to see them lose their outright second place and drop to third.

In the pre-match doubles league Northfield Darts Club are once again undefeated having won all seven games to give them a total of eighty-seven points, fourteen more than second placed Kings Norton Ex Serviceman’s Club.

In the division two singles league table Longbridge lead the way with ten points, they had a bye this week but still remain top of the table with an eleven legs of average lead on second placed West Heath CEM whose 4-3 win at Bournbrook put them on the same ten points as the leaders, also from six games. K.Bedder notched a maximum for West Heath CEM as did D.Ford for Bartley Green FC despite his side going down 4-3 at home to Perfection.

It’s Longbridge again topping the division two pre-match doubles table, their sixty-six points twelve more than their nearest rivals Bournbrook.

Old Star march on in the Silver End Sunday Morning League taking their wins to thirteen from fourteen games with a 7-1 home win over seventh in the league High Acres ‘A’ who now trail their hosts by some eleven points. Second in the league Dudley Sports ‘A’ have gone six points behind Old Star after having a bye this week but could reduce those arrears to three points with their game in hand. Third in the league Dudley Ex Serviceman’s Club lost ground in the title race when they lost their home fixture with fifth placed Brickmakers Arms 5-3 to leave them seven points adrift of the leaders and having played one game more than them. At the other end of the table Pensnett Liberal Club ‘B’ had a painful 8-0 home defeat at the hands of the Brier Rose team, the defeat seeing the home side remain at the foot of the table still without a win in fourteen games.

The Stourbridge and District Wednesday Night League had cup quarter-finals on their fixture card, first the League Cup in which second in the league Stourbridge FC ‘A’ lost 4-3 playing away against Raven who are third in the league, two points behind their opponents. Fourth in the league Old Liberal Club ‘A’ were involved in a local derby game with their ‘B’ side but came out on top winning 5-2. The remaining two games both finished with close 4-3 results, Swan beating Bird in Hand ‘E’ and Hollybush accounting for Fox Inn (Lye).

In the Shadow Cup last four games, league leaders Chop House won 5-2 playing away against Stourbridge FC ‘B’, Plough winning by the same margin at Five Ways. Biggest winners of the round were New Inns who won their home fixture with Netherton Conservative Club 6-1, also making their way into the hat for the last four draw was Ashwood who had a close 4-3 home win over Beech Tree Miners.

Dudley Ex Serviceman’s Club ‘A’ made it twenty-eight wins from twenty-eight games in the Netherton Thursday Night 501 League when they beat their ‘B’ team 7-2, the win secures the title for Dudley Ex Serviceman’s Club ‘A’, their perfect eighty-four points six more than second placed Old Liberal Club whose 7-2 win at Netherton Sports and Social Club was their penultimate game whereas the champions still have two more games to play. M.Jeffrey hit a maximum for the Sports and Social Club while S.Gough had a 160 break for the Liberal Club. Briritish Oak secured third place with an 8-1 home win over Riddins Tavern plus a maximum from R.Lowe. The wooden spoon will go to Cherrywood who with just two games to play and only twelve points from twenty-eight games they are twelve points adrift of three teams above them Rose and Crown, Old Glasshouse and Dudley Ex Serviceman’s Club ‘B’.

Other individual feats this week came from J.Bland (Hill and Cakemore Ex Serviceman’s Club) who hit a 180 and K.Harrison (Townsend Social Club) who had a 160 break. There was a 142 break for J.Brookes (Spring Meadow Social), 158 and 120 breaks for B.Neale (Bulls Head) and a 156 finish for S.Tipper (Bulls Head).

It is oh so close at the top of the Stourbridge and District Monday Night League with leaders Gornal British Legion taking their total points from twenty-three games to forty-two with a 6-1 home win over Ashwood while second placed Old Liberal Club’s 7-0 win at Raven ‘B’ put them on the same forty-two points but from twenty-two games, the British Legion top with the better average. Third placed Ten Arches ‘A’ have played twenty-three games and are on forty points after their latest 4-3 home win over Glasscutters ‘A’ who are now four points behind their opponents in fourth place.

There is a similar tight situation in the shadow league with Raven ‘A’ top with ten points from five games and Queens Head second on eight points from four games.

Wonder kept their winning run in order in the Rowley Monday Night League when in the latest round of fixtures they won 7-2 at home against Tividale Sports. Reigning champions and currently second on the league Bell remain two points behind Wonder after adding on their 5-4 home win over Whiteheath Tavern. J.Tart (Tividale FC) hit a maximum in his team’s 5-4 home win over Gate Hangs Well.

As the Black Country Men’s Super League reached the midway point of its season Allen’s Bar ‘A’ topped the table with fifty-two points, their most recent fixture seeing them win 4-1 against their ‘C’ side to keep them six points to the good on their nearest rivals Quarry Bank Liberal Club who handed their visitors Soccer Zone ‘B’ a 5-0 whitewash. Third in the league Dudley Ex Serviceman’s Club stretched their undefeated run to twelve games with a 3-1 home success over Ten Arches to leave them with a game in hand on the two teams above them but ten points off the top and four fewer than the second placed Liberal Club.

There were mixed fortunes for the top two players in the Amblecote RBL Premier League this week as leader Jason Lowe kicked off the evening with a super 5-2 win over second placed Nick Fullwell but then went down 4-3 to Grant Jackson while Fullwell bounced back with a 6-1 win over Dave Simpson. Lowe is now on 319 points from 48 games while Fullwell has 303 points from 49 games.

Scott Baker consolidated his number one spot in division one of the Gilbert’s Bar Monday Night Singles League with a 7-1 win over Alan Melling to give him a total of 173 points from 21 games. Second placed Simon Mountford lost ground on Baker as he went down 6-2 to Ben Forrest leaving him on 141 points from 23 games.

In division two Michael Smith is way out in front with 183 points with a game in hand on his nearest rival Joe Bartolo who has 148 points, Smith winning 8-0 against Artur Lubkowski while Bartolo lost 6-2 to Richard Brown.

Division three, leader Olly Garratt has a huge 37 points advantage over second placed Troy Simmonds, Garratt adding an 8-0 win over Joanne Meachin to his account while Simmonds was not far behind with his 7-1 victory over Alex Bryant.

Junction ‘B’ hold on to top place in the singles league of the Wolverhampton Tuesday Night League after beating their ‘D’ side 7-0, but they are only top on average from Dog and Partridge ‘B’ after they won 5-2 against Three Crowns.

In the doubles league a 3-0 win over Bradmore Arms sees New Gate Inn remain top of the table with fourteen points, two more than the chasing trio of Dog and Partridge ‘B’, Gilbert’s Bar ‘A’ and Junction ‘D’.
