The Sheldon and District Summer League have been involved in the second round of their Mrs F. Richman Trophy. Biggest win of the round went to Saltely Amateur Gardeners, who with a 6-1 verdict and a tremendous 150 checkout from K.Moloney, accounted for Shard End RBL Flights. There were 5-2 wins for Malt Shovel, Three Horse Shoes, RAFA and Shard End Social against respective opponents Shard End RBL ‘A’, Bromford Bridge Members Club, Sedgemere Social (K.Roberts 180) and Lea Hall Sports and Social, while close 4-3 wins were recorded by EBAHA, Stechford Social and Iron Horse at the expense of Mackadown Social, Hen and Chickens (P.Lewis 180) and the Raven.
Four rearranged league fixtures were played off in which in group three Yardley Ex Colts and British Telecom Club finished all square at four each, in group four Banbury Club (N.Parsonage 180) had a resounding 7-1 win over Millhouse and in group six Gunmakers Arms beat Cricketers 5-3 and Kingshurst Labour (G.Whitehouse 180) and Small Heath Gardeners had a 4-4 draw.

The Sheldon adn District Winter League will be holding their first meeting to form the new season on Sunday 22nd August at the league headquarters Lea Hall RBL at 10.30am. All teams are invited to attend, both old and new.

Prior to this week’s games, three teams were on ten points at the top of the Small Heath Summer League. Leaders, on average, Custard House had a close 5-4 win at fourth placed McVeighs, while the second and third placed teams, Victoria 301 Club and Station Hotel met on the Victoria board. The result was a vital 5-4 win for Station Hotel to keep them level on points with the leaders and two ahead of Victoria 301 Club.
A 5-4 reversal at the hands of the Innisfree outfit sees Victoria Flights stay firmly rooted at the bottom of the table with just two points. However, there was one moment of joy for them as their player Tony Owens hit a maximum.

The Globe march on at the top of division one of the Tamworth Cue Sports League, stretching their 100% record to six wins with an emphatic 7-1 victory over the Plough and Harrow. With 12 points Globe now have a four points cushion over their nearest rivals, Dolphin, who lost ground as they could only manage to draw 4-4 at the Queens.
In the second division there was a top of the table clash between leaders Red Lion ’A’ and second in the table Cue Sports Club. Home advantage was not enough for Cue as Red Lion stormed to a 5-3 win to extend their lead in the title race to four points. Bottom team Jolly Sailor had had only one high spot in there game at the Mercian, they went down 5-3, but their Mac Starling checked out with a fabulous maximum 170 game shot.

The mixed doubles knockout has been on the agenda for the South West Birmingham Clubs Summer League. Taking the honours were Sue Hodder and Kevin Beard, who defeated Kerry McCurry and Scott Fulford in the final. Losing semi finalists were Cynthia Goodard and Mick Rose, plus Sue and Mat Reynolds.
