A 24-12 home win over Hampshire in the Cosmo Darts Premier Division of the UKDA National League has seen Yorkshire increase their lead at the top of the table from twelve to twenty points as their nearest rivals Lancashire were held to an 18-18 draw away to Cornwall and with just one more fixture to play away against Glamorgan who are just two places off the foot of the table, Yorkshire appear to have the title all wrapped up as second placed Lancashire have a tough home fixture against third in the table Lincolnshire who desp[it being eleven points behind Lancashire have a game in hand on them. At the other end of the table London remain rooted to the foot of the table after losing their latest home game against Lincolnshire 22-14 while Essex moved up three places in the table from their next to bottom position after they won 20-16 at home against Dorset. Hampshire’s defeat sees them drop to the next to bottom position with 139 points just nine more than bottom of the table London. Glamorgan are two places off the bottom they had a bye and are on the same 139 points as Hampshire and just above them is Dorset who are four points to the good on the two teams.

Top individual performances for the premier division came from James Beeton (Lincolnshire) who in his 4-1 win over his London namesake James Malcher got the men’s ‘A’ top average of 31.39, the men’s ‘B’ of 32.85 went to Essex man Keegan Brown who had a 4-0 success over Dorset’s Robert Marshallsay. Audrey Underwood (Lancashire) was in top form chalking up a superb 24.76 average in her thrilling 3-2 win over Cornwall’s Maria O’Brien, who despite losing had a super 24.97 average. The ladies ‘B’ award went to Laura Turner (Hampshire) as she accounted for Yorkshire’s Taylor Field with a 3-2 win and 21.34 average.

In the Andy Wheeler Fisheries Championship Division, a 19-17 home defeat at the hands of the Suffolk team has seen Cambridgeshire lose top spot and drop to second place with 179 points. Suffolk’s win lifts them up two places in the table to third, now on 176 points but with a game in hand on their hosts Cambridgeshire who are only three points to the good. Sussex had a convincing 25-11 home win over Kent which takes them from third to top of the table with 186 points. At the other end of the table the bottom four teams remain the same with Cheshire bottom on 122 points form seven games, Staffordshire are next to bottom with 129 points from eight games and then come Derbyshire and Gwent, who have also played eight games and are in turn on 134 and 146 points.

Gwent’s Nick Kenny chalked up the best men’s ‘A’ average, 31.65 in his 4-1 win over Staffordshire’s Andy Cope, the men’s ‘B’ top average was 29.91 achieved by Sussex player Harry Jackson who beat Kent’s Jack Fuller 4-0. Cheshire’s Lindsey Ashton was certainly in top form as she registered a 24.95 average in her tremendous 3-1 win over Oxfordshire’s Deta Hedman to take the ladies ‘A’ award and not far behind Lindsey was Gwent’s Yazmine Ruck-Havard who topped the ladies ‘B’ averages with her 23.86 and straight 3-0 win over Staffordshire’s Sammi Brown.

A 19-17 win at Merseyside has seen Middlesex increase their lead at the top of the L-Style Division One table from eleven to fifteen points, Merseyside losing the second place and dropping to third on 176 points, some sixteen short of their victors. Taking over in the number two spot is Black Country whose 22-14 home win over Buckinghamshire has taken their total points to 177. West Midlands who are a further one point behind Merseyside hold on to their fourth position after a 24-12 win at Berkshire. No change in the bottom two places, Buckinghamshire remaining at the foot of the table with 119 points and Cleveland are just above them with 128 points after they had a bye.

Berkshire’s Archie Self had a very creditable 33.97 average in his straight 4-0 win over Shaun Carroll (West Midlands) to take the men’s ‘A’ award and the top ladies ‘A’ player was West Midlands Evonne Taylor who took her winning super league form to the county, winning 3-0 against Berkshire’s Ally Judge. Jodie Challinor (Clwyd) had a 29.91 average in his 4-0 win against Somerset’s Taylor Foster, Martin Lukeman (Middlesex) just losing out with his 29.47 average. The top ladies ‘B’ average went to Del Stapley (Clwyd) who won 3-0 against Zoe Liddle (Somerset).

Game number eight for division two brought about no changes whatsoever in the top four places, Worcestershire holding on to pole position with191 points following their 20-14 win at Gwynedd but having their lead reduced from twenty to eighteen points as second paced Salopian won 24-12 at Wiltshire.

Prior to their latest fixture, third in the division Nottinghamshire were level on points with Salopian but after being held to an 18-18 draw at home against Tyne and Wear they are now on 165 points which is eight less than Salopian but three more than fourth placed County Durham who had a 20-16 home win over Surrey. In addition to no change in the top four there are no changes in the bottom four, Gwynedd still at the foot of the table with 127 points, Wiltshire just above them with 129 points. Two places off the bottom Cumbria, lost 21-15 at Northumberland to leave them on 143 points, seven fewer than the team above them, Surrey

Nottinghamshire’s Micky Stocks had the best men’s ‘A’ average which was 30.36 in his 4-0 win over Tyne and Wear’s David Stokell, the best ‘B’ average going to Paul Williams (Tyne and Wear) who won 4-3 against Micky Stocks. For the ladies the ‘A’ award went to Steph Clarke (Salopian) who beat Wiltshire’s Tina Rowlands 3-0, the ‘B’ award also going to Salopian as Hayley McGuinness won 3-1 against Linzi Holton with a 19.61 average.

It’s as-you-were for the top three teams in division three, leaders Norfolk adding a 26-10 home win over Isle of Wight to their account to put them on 216 points while second placed Shropshire went one better with a 27-9 home win over Pembrokeshire to reduce the deficit on the top team to twenty-two points. Third in the division West of England are a further three points adrift after they also won 27-9 playing away against Gloucestershire. There is no change in the bottom four as Isle of Wight’s defeat leaves them bottom with 82 points, then comes Montgomery and Radnor with 113, Pembrokeshire are on 116 and Breconshire have 151.

Despite their heavy defeat Isle of Wight supplied the men’s ‘A’ top average as Jason Collins chalked up a 31.04 average in his 4-2 win over Norfolk’s Paul Taylor. The ladies ‘A’ award went to Jane Price (Gloucestershire) who defeated Sam Lloyd (West of England) 3-1 and averaged 21.82. Wirral’s Tony Martin clinched the men’s ‘B’ award with his 30.83 average and 4-0 win over James Phillips (Breconshire) while Norfolk’s Elaine Blackett topped the ladies ‘B’ averages, her 20.31 average and 3-0 win over Isle of Wight’s Jules Inman earning her the accolade.

Warwickshire’s eighth fixture in the UKDA National League Cosmo Darts Premier Division, an away tie against Hertfordshire was brought forward by a couple of weeks but the weekend didn’t get off to the best of starts as the hosts ladies ‘B’ side raced into a 3-0 unassailable lead with Vicky Rannow winning 3-1 against Denise Keyte, Jodie Clarkson beating Donna Pinch 3-0 and Kirsty Bond winning 3-1 against Kacie O’Connor. Warwickshire’s lady of the match Courtney Hine stopped the home team’s charge when she won 3-0 against Kerry King with a 16.52 average. The win however, for the visitors proved to be just a delay for Hertfordshire claiming the victory as in game five Debs Jones won 3-1 against Chloe McKivett-Saunders and with a similar 3-1 win for Jo Kitchen in the final game over Nina Bolt the home side won 5-1.

Trailing 5-1, a win from the men’s ‘B’ was now vital to keep Warwickshire in the game but they also weren’t too quick out of the blocks as the home team’s Lee Barrow won 4-2 against Lee Miller and Bradley Clark added his 4-0 success over Adam Hancock to their tally to put them two up. Liam Divall looked all set to make it 3-0 when he opened up a 3-0 lead over Jnr Joyce but the Warwickshire man stuck to his task and fought back to go on and win 4-3. The two games buffer was restored for the hosts in the fourth when Paul Squirrell beat Ryan Jackson 4-2. In the fifth game Steve Hine (Warwickshire) handed out a 4-0 whitewash to his opponent Daniel Wood but by the midway point Hertfordshire were leading 4-2 after Ben Smith closed the half with a 4-2 win over Dave Hill.

It was a better start to the second session for Warwickshire as Mark Strong beat Gerry Mooney 4-1 and man of the match Mark Faulkner levelled the score at 4-4 with his straight 4-0 win over Ian Clarkson, Faulkner averaging 25.69. For the first time in the game the visiting team went ahead in the ninth, Karl Reynolds winning 4-1 against Dre Hajimina to put Warwickshire 5-4 up. With a further 4-0 win for Jack Wareing over Matt Creed, Warwickshire had now staged a super fight back to ensure at the worst a draw, but a draw was never going to be on the cards as in the final two games Mark Martin won 4-3 against Luke Ely and Zac Prince beat Terry Andrews 4-2 to give Warwickshire’s men’s ‘B’ a tremendous 8-4 victory.

Once again in the ladies ‘A’ match like the ladies ‘B’ it was Hertfordshire who chalked up the first winners as Rachel Egleton won 3-2 against Kirsty Hinchliffe, after the away player had gone 2-1 up and making it 2-0 was Louise Pearson with her 3-0 win over Jodie Rigg. Caroline Pike (Warwickshire) after winning the opening leg against Grace Ferridge then trailed 2-1 but went on to win 3-2 to reduce the arrears to 2-1. Stacey Aylesbury won the opener against Hannah Meek, but Warwickshire’s lady of the match then went on to win 3-1 with a 19.88 average. Leading 3-2, the home team’s Kerry O’Connor then went ahead twice against Marian Conway, but the newly appointed General Secretary for Warwickshire held her nerve and went on to win 3-2 to earn her team mates a share of the spoils in a 3-3 draw.

The opening four games of the men’s ‘A’ match all went with the first throw advantage Danny Lauby and Nigel Heydon twice putting Warwickshire’s noses in front as in turn they won 4-1 and 4-2 against Mason Teese and Brad Phillips. Replying for Hertfordshire were Damian Green who won 4-1 against Sam Whittaker and Daniel Varney who had a 4-2 success against Jack Wareing. The sequence was broken in the fifth when the home side took the lead for the first time when Rex Cole had a 4-1 win over Martin Tonks, but by the halfway stage the score was level at 3-3 as Kevin Dowling added his 4-1 win over Lewis Pearse to the visitors tally.

Warwickshire took the lead for a third time in game seven when Samuel Price won 4-0 against Liam Durston. However the lead didn’t last long as the home side won two-in-a-row thanks to their Thomas Banks and Josh Jones who in turn defeated Matty Washbrooke (4-0) and Wayne Mynard (4-3), Mynard taking the lead three times before succumbing to defeat. Trailing 5-4 Warwickshire now needed something special to keep in the game and providing that special touch was man of the match Jamie Hughes who came from 2-0 down to Jarred Cole and went on to win 4-2. Hughes won the third leg in eighteen darts with a super 116 game shot, he then went on to seal his win with further winning legs of 19, 16 and 15 darts giving him a great 30.49 average. A 4-3 win from Gareth Braham over Joe Croft kept hopes alive of a win for the away side but it was not to be as Hertfordshire’s Jack Pledger won the last game of the weekend against Noel Grant 4-2 to put the score at 6-6.

The overall result for the weekend was all-square at 18-18 which after all the scheduled game nine fixtures were played saw Warwickshire placed fourth in the division with 165 points, twenty-two points short of second placed Lancashire but with a game in hand.

Black Country’s eighth fixture in the L-Style Division One of the UKDA National League was a home tie with bottom of the table Buckinghamshire, the home side riding high in third place.

The ladies ‘B’ game saw the lead go one way and then the other as Alexandra Dorney gave the visitors the early lead when she won the opener against Kirsty Shaughnessy 3-0. Lady of the match Paige Robbins squared the game with her 3-2 success over Lisa Webb, Robbins averaging 15.50 before the hosts took the lead in the third when Leanne Wilson beat Courtney Amos 3-1. Lorraine Brown had a 3-0 win against Grace Angell to restore parity but only to see the home side forge ahead again in the fifth when Amy-Leigh Tolley won 3-2 against Remi Martin. The result was taken to three each when Janet Weedon (Buckinghamshire) won the final game against Sarah-Jane Parker 3-2.

The men’s ‘B’ could not have wished for a better start as they roared into an unbeatable 6-0 lead in the first half of the game. First on for the Black Country was Mark Rollinson who won 4-1 against Clive Wilford, Wayne Hobday doubled the lead with his 4-3 win over Jack Arnold before the home team’s man of the match Rob Smith made it 3-0 when he defeated Gary Price 4-2 with a 27.42 average. Moving the score along to 4-0 was George Willetts with his straight 4-0 success over Dan O’Donnell and with a 4-2 win for Rich Bowen against Steve Reed, followed by a 4-1 victory for Sam Bissell over Tim McGarry the Black Country had made it a clean-sweep for the first half.

The win came as early as the first game in the second half, Neil Steventon winning 4-1 against Liam Maughgan and taking the score to 8-0 was Mark Jones with his similar 4-1 win over Matt Heffer. Buckinghamshire got their first stripe on the board in the ninth, Karl Higgins winning 4-3 against Andy Garratt and they then won the next two games as Colin Singleton beat Al Smith 4-2 and Darran Butters won 4-1 against Ian Townsend. The last game of the day went to Black Country when Jake Shipley beat Paul Stefanovic 4-2 to put the final score at 9-3 to the hosts.

The first five games of the ladies ‘A’ match all went against the first throw advantage as Stella Sims was first on beating Kelly Rose 3-2 and for the visitors Barbara Legge levelled the game with her 3-1 win over Maxine Prosser. The hosts went ahead again in the third when Heather Wright won 3-1 against Gerry Johnson, only to see Buckinghamshire draw level for a second time when Kirsty Gibbs beat Doreen Hunt 3-2. For a third time Black Country took the lead, this time thanks to a 3-1 win from Abbey Hunt over Kelsey Battams before the sequence was broken when the home team’s lady of the match Chez Alcock won 3-1 against Ann Wakefield with an 18.70 average giving Black Country a 4-2 win.

With an overall 16-9 lead, just three wins were required from the men’s ‘A’ to secure an overall victory for the weekend and those three wins came in the very first three encounters as Steve Jones and Martin Greenwood in turn beat Steve McLeod and Steve Vaughan 4-3 before Cayden Smith chalked up the all-important third win when he handed out a 4-0 whitewash to Craig Cox, Smith’s 30.83 average earning him the match award. The away side won the fourth when John Woodbridge beat Dan Homer 4-3 but with 4-2 results in the last two games of the half going to Black Country’s Michael Powell and Harry Williams over respective opponents Liam Maughan and Martin Hill, the hosts men’s ‘A’ had a 5-1 lead at the break.

After five out of six wins in the first half for the home team it was the turn of Buckinghamshire in the second session as they won five of the six games. The opening three games were all straight 4-0 wins for Leo Beechey, Damien Fyffe and Glen Young who in turn accounted for Dave Edwards, Aaron Colley and Al Smith. John Ayris had a 4-2 win against Jamie Barrowman before Black Country got their single winner of the half when Trev Brennan beat Stuart Robinson 4-1. The last game of the weekend went to the visitors as Karl Deacon earned a 6-6 draw for his team-mates when he won 4-0 against Alex Howells

The result for the weekend was a 22-14 win for Black Country which saw them move up one place in the promotion table to second with 177 points, fifteen short of leaders Middlesex and just one to the good on third placed Merseyside.

Fourth in the L-Style Division One table, West Midlands made the journey to the south-east to take on Berkshire who were three places below them in the table but with only five points fewer.

The ladies ‘B’ gave the Midlanders the best start possible as they stormed to a 6-0 win. Opening up a 2-0 lead were Hannah Davies and Julie Emery who beat respective counterparts Marie O’Brien and Chris Ruffell 3-0. Assuring the away team of at the worst a share of the points was Shellbie Simmons with her 3-2 win over Carole Holroyd before the win was secured in the fourth by lady of the match Sarah Maybury who had a 3-1 win over Vanessa O’Connell and averaged 17.92. Moving the score along nicely to 5-0 was Kelly Doleman with her straight 3-0 win over Sarah Walker and with a final 3-2 success for Kat McLean against Tracey Kingston the result was 6-0.

All of the first half results for the men’s ‘B’ game went with the first throw advantage with West Midlands taking the lead three times and having it cancelled out on each occasion. Opening up those leads for the visitors were Ryan Locker, Adam Teasdale and Callum Parkes who won in turn against Ryan Newton (4-1), Steven Hobbs (4-3) and James Clifton (4-3). Replying for Berkshire were Lewis Doe, Ian Hobbs and Kevin Morley who accounted for their respective opponents John Simms (4-1), Will Beaden (4-3) and Cameron Baird (4-2).

The second half began where the first had left off with the opening two encounters again going with the first throw advantage. Luke Griffiths putting West Midlands 4-3 up with his 4-3 win over Steve Baggaley only to see Paul Holloway beat namesake Paul Price 4-2 to level the game at four each. For the first time in the game Berkshire went ahead in the ninth when Doug Harwood won 4-2 against Chris Slater and with a 4-1 success for Jack Mayoh over Kieran O’Mahoney the hosts were within an  ace of victory. It took a man of the match performance from Alex Simmons to keep hopes of a draw alive for the West Midlands as he won 4-1 against James Johnson with a 25.72 average and with a similar 4-1 result for Ian Stanton against Thomas Grigg, the final score was 6-6.

Getting the ladies ‘A’ off to a bright start were Gemma Barrett and Jacqueline Trott, both winning 3-1 in turn against Debbie Shadwell and Tania Burdett. Kelly Ellis (Berkshire) halved the deficit when she won 3-0 against Claire Hobbs but that was to be the last of the cheers from the home crowd as Jacqueline Maiden defeated Hayley Watts 3-2 and Evonne Taylor, lady of the match for the Black Country, made it 4-1 when she accounted for Ally Judge with a 3-0 result and 22.77 average. Kat McLean won the final game against Karen Jackson 3-0 to give West Midlands a super 5-1 result.

With a 16-8 lead going into the men’s ‘A’ game, West Midlands lost the opener as Stephen Wood beat Ryan O’Connor 4-1. However, they moved into an overall unbeatable position when award winner Jack Aldridge won 4-1 against James Wiggins with a 27.09 average and Neil Pointon beat Peter Bisset 4-2. The win for the weekend was achieved in the fourth when Gavin Baker got the better of Paul Self with a close 4-3 result but then from leading 3-1 the score at the midway point was all-square at 3-3 after Archie Self won 4-0 against Shaun Carroll and Anthony Dean beat Rob Thompson 4-3.

From 3-3 the second half was pretty much all West Midlands as Scott Baker won 4-1 against Jake Hobbs, Richard Platt and Mark Craddock had 4-1 wins in turn over Joe Lacey and Terry Stubbs, before both Darren Williams and Alex Simmons handed out 4-0 defeats to Richard Stride and Karl Williams. Salopian began their eighth fixture in division three of the UKDA National League placed second in the promotional table with 146 points, twenty behind leaders Worcestershire while their opponents and hosts Wiltshire were next to bottom of the table with 113 points.

Wiltshire had the better start to the ladies ‘B’ match as Chaniece Witcher and Erica Hartnett in turn won 3-1 against Stacey Pepperrell and Helen Walmsley. Sue Lane got Salopian’s first win when she won a close 3-2 battle against Kerry Hale and with further 3-1 wins from Tracey Dean and Hayley McGuinness the away side had reversed the situation to lead 3-2. Tracey Dean won against April Polden while Hayley McGuinness beat Linzi Holton and in the process earned herself the match award for her 19.61 average. The last game went the full five legs distance with Wiltshire’s Cat Mackie just getting the 3-2 edge on Anna Peatroy to earn the home side a share of the 3-3 draw.

The men’s ‘B’ kicked off with a man of the match performance from Ben Bevan who had a 24.98 average in his 4-1 win over Keith Bedding. Inspired by Bevan’s win Salopian then went on to win the remainder of the first half games thanks to Steve O’Callaghan, James Jenkins, Ian Bride, Matt Williams and Mick Unsworth, who in turn defeated their counterparts Eddie Tott (4-3), Dan Sturgess (4-1), Charlie King (4-0), Johnathon Gillingham-Smithers (4-1) and Ashley Chapman (4-3).

Leading 6-0, the story continued as the second session got underway, Jamie Kynaston beating Nick Price 4-1, Eddie Price winning 4-3 against Stuart Clarke, Dean Stokes had a 4-1 success against Harry Osborn and Andy Gilbert won 4-2 against Jason Rudman, all before Wiltshire got their first winner in the shape of Lee J. Newman who had a 4-3 win against Carl Wear. The last game went once again to Salopian when Danny Humphries accounted for Darren May with a straight 4-0 result to put the final score at a resounding 11-1 to Salopian’s men’s ‘B’.

Wiltshire were first to take the lead in the ladies ‘A’ game, Dani Kearns beating Karen Weston 3-0. However the lead didn’t last long as Emma Tapp levelled the game when she won 3-1 against Joanna Hooke. For a second time the hosts went ahead, this time thanks to a second 3-0 win provided by Rebecca Barrow who won against Tammy Walmsley. Parity was restored for a second time when Kate Tiley added her 3-0 win over Jill Little to the visitors tally and with the sequence being broken in the fifth and Salopian getting the noses in front for the first time in the match when Steph Clarke not only won 3-0 against Tina Rowlands but at the same time won the match award for her 22.43 average. The game ended all-square at 3-3 as Kayce-Jayde Witcher beat Julie Griffiths 3-0 in the last game.

The first half of the men’s ‘A’ match turned out to be in itself a tale of two halves as Salopian won the first three games and Wiltshire the last three games. As in the men’s ‘B’ game, the men’s ‘A’ also began with a man of the match performance as Jamie Chaplin won 4-2 against Connor Hughes with a 29.25 average. Paul Rowley and Jon Mansell added to Chaplin’s win when in turn they won 4-1 and 4-2 against Jack Woods and Andy Harvey. Wiltshire then began their fight back as Peter Keen won 4-1 against Mark Graham before Lee Evans and Gary Court beat respective opponents Andy Evans and Gary Court 4-3 to put the score level at the halfway stage at 3-3.

As the second half got underway the visitors took the lead once again when Kacey Jones won 4-3 against Ian Greenway. The score was taken to 4-4 when Ashley McKeever had a 4-3 win over Dave Bayton but the away side once again went ahead when Ash Hilditch beat Martin Williams 4-3 and with a further 4-2 win for Mark Crutchley against Ryan Greenway Salopian were leading 6-4. A 4-1 win for Juan Hopkins (Wiltshire) over Dafydd Edwards took the tie to the final game in which Salopian’s Ian Evans won 4-2 against Jayden Betteridge to see the away team grab the 7-5 result.

The overall result for the weekend was 24-12 to Salopian which saw them slightly reduce the arrears on leaders Worcestershire from twenty to eighteen points but at the same time widen the gap between themselves and third placed Nottinghamshire from level pegging to a lead of eight points.

A home game against Pembrokeshire was on the fixture card for Shropshire in division three of the UKDA National League, the home side looking to consolidate their number two post and 164 points while their visitors were six places below them on 107 points. However the ladies ‘B’ game didn’t have the best of starts as Pembrokeshire’s Mellisa Bird beat Lauren Kempson 3-2 and doubling the away team’s lead was Ffion Davies with her 3-1 success over Sara Jones. That however was the end of the fight back for the away team as Andrew Jervis and Ben Johnson in turn won 4-1 against Andy Alker and Steve Young and with anchor-man Andre Knox beating Luke Leonard 4-2 the result was an 8-4 win for Shropshire.

The big 24-12 overall victory for Shropshire saw them hold on to second place still behind Norfolk but having slightly reduced the deficit by one point to twenty-two.
