There was a top of the table clash in division one of the Harborne and District Winter league, when leaders George travelled to take on second placed Hillyfields. Despite a maximum from Hillyfields A.Flanagan, the home side lost by a massive 6-1 to give the George a tremendous eight points lead, although Hillyfields have a game in hand. Raven, with the aid of a 160 break by P.Hewitt gained an important 4-3 win over Smethwick Labour Club to open a two points lead between the two teams.

In division two leaders Coopers Arms suffered a surprise defeat when they lost 4-3 at home to the Cock Inn. However, they still have a two points advantage over their nearest rivals the Pheasant, because they also went down 4-3 in their home tie against Avenue Social.

The Globe increased their lead to two points at the top of division one of the Longwood Winter league with a 5-3 win at Two Gates Club, while second in the table Winning Post could only draw 4-4 with third placed Dolphin.

Second division leaders Queens ’A’ chalked up a comprehensive 7-1 win over Kettlebrook to give them 18 points, two more than Mercian, who lost 5-3 at home to Queens ’B’.

Winning through the first round of the Sheldon and District league’s Denis Houlders Trophy are, Saltley Amateur Gardeners ’B’, Raven ’B’, Raven ’A’, Saltley Amateur Gardeners ’A’, Fordbridge Social ’B’, Three Horse Shoes ’A’, Three Horse Shoes ’B’, Castle Vale Residents Association ’A’, Fordbridge Social ’A’, Sheldon Dukes, Malt Shovel ’A’, Iron Horse ’B’, St Annes and Millhouse. 180’s were hit by, M.Elkin, J.Evans and S.Bains.

Best individual performances in the league, premier division came from, B.Nixon, D.Elliott (160 breaks), P.Randell (180), T.White, M.Birch (9 darts game). In division one, C.Thomas snr (180), R.Duncan (9 darts game).

Next Tuesday the Forest of Arden Winter league will be staging the final of their Presidents Cup between Highwood Arrows and the Highwood at the Highwood and the semi finals of the Consolation Cup in which Greville Arms take on the Harvester at Hobs Meadow and Hobs Meadow and Red Arrows play at the Harvester.

No change at the top of the Small Heath Winter League as the top three teams all record wins. Top team Victoria 301 Club beat Antelope 7-2, giving them eight points. Also on the same eight points is McVeighs, who won 6-3 against Heartlands Club and in third place, with six points is Custard House, who had a 5-4 success over the Gunmakers Arms.

Congratulations to Tipton Social Club, who with a 4-1 result beat the White Hart from Northamptonshire to lift the prestigious Bedworth Gateway Open Men’s title at the Saunders Hall WMC, Bedworth.

The ladies crown went to Air Balloon (Bristol), they defeated the Black Horse (Worcester) 4-3 in the final.
