Smethwick Labour suffered a setback to their title hopes in division one of the Harborne and District Winter League when they went down 5-2 at home to the George. W.C. WMC also lost by the same margin in their fixture at the Woodcock. However, Hobsons Choice were in form as they recorded a close 4-3 success at Quinborne Flights, with S.Wenlock hitting not only a maximum, but also two 110 breaks plus 3×100 and S.Birkett chalking up a 160 break for the winners.
In the second division Harborne Stores and Avenue Social in turn had 5-2 wins against Stonehouse Flights and Bartley Green Social Club Flights, while the Cock Inn and Old Mill accounted for their respective opponents, Highlander Flights and the Pheasant with 4-3 scorelines.

There was a top of the table clash in the premier division of the Sheldon and District Winter league when leaders Three Horse Shoes took on second placed Highwood. The result was 6-3 in favour of the Highwood, who have now taken over the number one spot with 16 points, two more than the Shoes, who are now second, level on points with Saltley Amateur Gardeners and Fordbridge Social, who had 6-3 wins over Castle Vale Residents Association and RAFA.
There was a shock defeat for division one leaders Glebe Community Centre as they lost 5-4 at the Dovecote, who had previously only won two games. Another team to cause an upset were bottom of the table Harvester, who beat fourth in the table Millhouse 7-2.
On the individual scene there were 180’s for C.Grimes (Sheldon Dukes), C.John (Highwood) and D.Ryan (Lea Hall) and 160 breaks for J.Randell (Saltely Gardeners) and S.Darby (Yardley Ex Service).

No change at the top of the division table in the Longwood league as the top two teams, Winning Post and Dolphin recorded 6-2 away wins against respective opponents White Lion and Red Lion ’A’ to keep the two teams locked together on ten points, Winning Post not only having a superior average but also the advantage of a game in hand. Third place Globe lost ground as the best they could manage was a 4-4 draw at home to Red Lion ’B’.
Queens ’A’ are now outright leaders of division two as Queens ’B’ finished al square at four each with Three Horse Shoes, while the ’A’ side won 6-2 at the Jolly Sailor.

In the men’s section of the West Midlands Super league, Tipton gained an emphatic 7-2 win at Wednesbury, Wayne Fletcher and Martin Angell providing the home side’s only resistance. Smethwick had a 6-3 home win over Darlaston and Warley won 5-4 at Penkridge.
In the women’s league Great Wyrley won their home tie against Wolverhampton with a comfortable 4-1 verdict, while Wednesbury and Wednesfield both won 3-2 in their encounters with Willenhall and Smethwick.
