Highwood were in top form in the Forest of Arden Winter league this week, chalking up an 8-1 win over Hobs Meadow Mixes. There were 180’s for both Kevin Gibbs and P. Green, plus a 170 break from Paul Norris. Dave Hougham (Harvester) also notched a 180 in his side’s 5-4 win at Sheldon Heath Flights, while George Tegg’s (Mackadown Social) 160 break did not avoid a 6-3 defeat at the Cock and Hens.

Raven are the early pacesetters in division one of the Harborne and District Summer League, two wins in as many outings, their latest being a close 5-4 verdict over the George. Bartley Green Social are second, their 5-4 win at Hillyfields maintaining their 100% record. Midland Red opened their account with a similar 5-4 victory at Ladywood Social.
In division two leaders Cock Inn suffered a 5-4 reversal at the hands of the Smethwick Labour Club team, but stay in pole position as they have played one game more than the rest of the division,
- Stevens (George)and B. Hadley (Smethwick Labour) both hit a maximum and A Hollins (Bartley Green Flights) recorded a 160 break

In the Small Heath league the KO Cup title went to Heartlands Club, who handed out a 9-0 whitewash to the Brewer and Baker in the final. Custard House won the Upside Down Cup final in a closely fought contest with Gables Tavern, the result 5-4. Kevin Maloney (Custard House) registered a 160 outshot.

Shannons got their Camp Hill and District league campaign off to a good start with an 8-1 win at Black Horse ‘B’. Red Lion had a 6-3 success at the Gunmakers, while Roost and Antelope recorded 5-4 win’s against respective opponents Cricketers and Black Horse ‘A’.

This season’s singles winner in the Sheldon and District Winter league is Ian Spencer (Three Horse Shoes). Spencer took the title with a final 2-0 win over St Anne’s player Colin Henn. Following a 100 game shot in the first leg Spencer sealed his victory with a 100 plus a 131 checkout in nine darts in the second.
The doubles title went to Highwood’s Bob Nixon and Tom Sidwell, with Tom White and Tony Randall (Saltley Amateur Gardeners) the runners up.

In the final fixture of the season in division four of the BDO Inter Counties Championships, leaders West Midlands play a crucial away game against second in the table Gwynedd. A win would give them the title and promotion , however Gloucestershire and Northamptonshire are both in contention and if the results went against them West Midlands could lose out on both the title and promotion.

Once again the Ace of Clubs and Gulp Charity teams have teamed up to raise monies for worthy causes, this time the venue was the Victoria Club, Sparkhill, where they took on a Bulls Head select from Bideford on Avon. The result was a 9-7 win for the charity teams, but the biggest winner was charity as a fantastic amount of £224 was raised, which will be split 50-50 for Ward 11 of the Princess Diana Children’s Hospital and Cancer Research.
