The third fixtures in the UKDA National League saw four of the five leaders from the second games hold on to their number one spots in their respective divisions. Lancashire with a 24-12 home win over Essex were one of those four teams to maintain their number one positions as they stay top of the Cosmo Darts Premier Division with a total of 81 points, their opponents dropping one place to fourth on 58 points. A 22-14 win at Kent sees Hampshire hold on to second place just three points short of Lancashire while Yorkshire’s 20-16 win away at Cornwall has taken them up one place to third on 66 points.

At the other end of the table Cheshire, despite holding Warwickshire to an 18-18 draw remain at the foot of the table with 31 points but they have only played two games as yet. Glamorgan’s close 19-17 home win over Staffordshire has lifted them up one place and are now two off the bottom of the division with Kent replacing them next to bottom of the table.

In the Andy Wheeler Fisheries Championship Division former leaders Humberside suffered a somewhat surprising 19-17 home defeat to Cleveland who prior to the fixture were eight places below them and twelve points behind them, but as a result Cleveland move-up four places to fifth with 58 points. The defeat sees Humberside drop to third place on 65 points the same number as second in the table Berkshire who moved up four places after their convincing 24-12 home win over Cambridgeshire. Dorset are the new leaders, moving up one place following their 21-15 win at Gwynedd which put them on 67 points and are the only new leaders of all five divisions.

Cambridgeshire and Northamptonshire are in turn bottom and next to bottom of the Championship table despite Northamptonshire winning 21-15 at home against Sussex, however both of the bottom two teams have only played two games.

Derbyshire with a 25-11 home win over Merseyside continue to lead the field in division one, the win taking the home side’s points tally to 74 and giving them a nine points lead over second placed Buckinghamshire whose 23-13 win at home against Surrey has seen them move up two places to second replacing Suffolk who lost their home tie with bottom of the table West Midlands 19-17 and drop to third.

The bottom two teams in division one West Midlands and Worcestershire both have a game in hand and although West Midlands won and Worcestershire had an 18-18 at home with Leicestershire they remain in the bottom two places

West of England continue their fine start to the new season in division two wining their latest fixture at home against Nottinghamshire 21-15, however they have had their four points lead reduced to just one as Black Country replace Tyne and Wear in the number two spot after a 27-9 win at Gloucestershire. Tyne and Wear went down 19-17 at Bedfordshire and with 58 points drop to sixth in the table with their victors just above them on 60 points. Clwyd and Norfolk are third and fourth respectively the former winning 21-15 at home against Wiltshire while the latter had a closer 19-17 home win over Cumbria. Despite their defeat Cumbria move off the foot of the table on 50 points and as a result of their large defeat Gloucestershire drop to the bottom of the table with 43 points.

Middlesex have increased their lead at the top of division three from one point to twelve after chalking up the UKDA National League’s biggest win of round three fixtures, a massive 31-5 home win over Isle of Wight while Salopian hold on to second place following their 20-16 win at Wirral giving them a total of 71 points.

No surprises after their large defeats that Isle of Wight remain rooted at the foot of the table with just 15 points and Wirral are next to bottom with 32 points, however they have both only played two games.

In the Cosmo Darts Premier Division Warwickshire were still smarting from their 21-15 defeat away to Essex when in their third fixture they travelled once again to take on bottom of the division Cheshire. However the weekend got off to a brilliant start with the ladies ‘B’ chalking up a 5-1 win followed by a 7-5 success for the men’s ‘B’.

The ladies could not have wished for a better start as Hannah Meek rattled off a straight 3-0 win over Kirstie Corbett, Hannah taking the lady of the match award for her 21.17 average. Courtney Hine doubled Warwickshire’s advantage when she accounted for Kerry Mundy with a 3-1 result before the hosts recorded their first and what turned out to be their only winner when Vicky Martin beat Wendy Adams 3-2 after Adams h

ad won the first leg and then levelled in the fourth.

From there on in it was all Warwickshire as Chloe McKivett won 3-1 against Julie Whitehouse, Angela Jones beat Tracey Heeps 3-0 and to round off the 5-1 victory Nina Bolt won 3-1 against Andrea Davis.

Despite going 2-0 up against Karl Windisch, Nigel Heydon (Warwickshire) was unable to confirm his 4-3 win until the seventh and deciding leg as Windisch won the second, third and fourth legs. Nevertheless Heydon’s superb winning legs of 12,15,14 and 15 darts gave him an award winning average of 30.25.

From 1-0 up Warwickshire then found themselves trailing 3-1 as Peter Boughey beat Adam Hancock 4-1, Colin Lewis won 3-2 against Lee Miller and Patrick Lynskey won 3-2 against Mark Tomlinson. By the midway point it was, despite a 4-3 win from Ian McFarlane over Aaron Russell, 4-2 to the home side as Neil Gerrard came from 3-1 down against Noah Rose to go on and win 4-3.

As the second half got underway the hosts went further ahead as Matthew Shaw beat Mark Carter 4-2 after Carter had gone 1-0 and 2-1 up. But then came the big fight back as Karl Reynolds began a run of six wins for the away team. Reynolds completed a 4-1 win with a 121 outshot and was followed by Mark Strong who added a similar 4-1 win to Warwickshire’s tally when he accounted for Craig Simpson. Martin Tonks trailed 1-0 and 2-1 to Darren Downey but stuck to his task and went on to win 4-2 to level the score at five each.

The last two games of the day were straight 4-0 wins, both going to Warwickshire as in turn Dave Hill and Mark Martin won against Anthony Conroy and Karl Whitfield to give the visitors the 7-5 result and an overall lead on the day of 12-7.

Similar to Saturday’s games once again the ladies got the day off to a good start as Natalie Gilbert opened up with a 3-1 win after her opponent Alex Foulds had won the first leg. Taking the score along to 2-0 in Warwickshire’s favour was lady of the match Tammy Montgomery. Tammy won the first leg against Amy Evans in 23 darts and although she lost the second she won the next two in 25 and 23 darts for a very creditable 23.66 average.

Cheshire got their first stripe on the board in the third as Vicky Pruim won 3-0 against Marian Conway and then levelled the score in the fourth when Ros Hemmings came from 1-0 down to go on and win 3-2 against Caroline Pike.

With a 106 game shot in the first leg and a 3-0 result over Liz Humphries, Sue Gulliver restored Warwickshire’s lead and when anchor player Donna Pinch added her straight 3-0 success over Lyn Marsden to the tally Warwickshire won the game 4-2.

The men’s ‘A’ lost the opening game when Daniel Ayres beat Wayne Mynard 4-2 and although Jamie Atkins came from 3-0 down to level at 3-3 with Jeff Fisher it was Fisher that got the 4-3 verdict to put the hosts 2-0 up.

Keith Croxford looked all set to make it 3-0 when he went two up against Gareth Braham but Braham momentarily stopped his charge with a 110 game shot in the third. Croxford then went 3-1 up but was unable to clinch the winning fourth leg as Braham checked out in 18,16 and 19 darts for a 4-3 win.

Two hundred plus finishes of 105 and 118 were not enough for Jack Wareing to avoid a 4-3 defeat to Steve Lomas and with a 4-2 success for Luke Little over Tom Martin and a 4-1 win for Shaun Alcock over Jenson Walker the hosts were 5-1 up at the halfway stage.

As the second half got going Matty Washbrooke (Warwickshire) opened up 1-0 and 2-1 leads over Andrew Green only to see Green take the 4-2 win with winning legs of 19,15 and 17 darts.

By the eighth game the match was won as Paul Goodwin beat Steve Hine 4-2 to give Cheshire men’s ‘A’ a commanding 7-1 lead which was added to when Joe Rowland won 4-2 against Noel Grant, Perry Davenport beat Scott Hope 4-2 and Stuart Kellett won 4-1 against Kevin Dowling.

In the final game of the day and weekend Warwickshire’s new signing this season Chris Wickenden produced his teams man of the performance as he went one up against Mal Barrow in 16 darts, then in 18 darts with a 100 finish made it 2-0. He then went three up as he checked out on 156 in a fifteen darts leg and rounded off a superb 4-0 win in 19 darts to give him a 29.47 award winning average.

The win from Chris put the final score at 10-2 to Cheshire and gave an overall score for the weekend of 18-18.

The draw lifted Warwickshire up one place in the table to fifth, but with 57 points they are already after only three fixtures some 24 short of leaders Lancashire. Cheshire meanwhile remain at the foot of the table on 31 points but do have a game in hand on the four teams above them.

Languishing at the foot of division one of the UKDA National League after their one fixture West Midlands had a tough task when their second game was away to second in the division Suffolk but nevertheless both men’s teams came up with vital wins after the ladies had an unsuccessful weekend to earn a close but nevertheless a 19-17 victory.

The ladies ‘A’ and ‘B’ in turn went down 4-2 and 5-1 with Gemma Barrett (20.88) and Shellbie Simmons (15.18) taking the respective match awards.

The men’s ‘B’ team took an early 2-0 lead with wins from Ben Johnson and Mark Craddock who won 3-2 against Dan Brown and Kevin Leathers with Mark Craddock taking the match award for his 27.61 average. But then Suffolk went into a 3-2 lead as their Andy Meikle beat Adam Teasdale 3-1, Curtis Hammond won 3-0 against Kevin Taylor and Wayne Bugby accounted for Ian Stanton with a 3-1 result. Levelling the score at the halfway stage was Jay Woodhouse with a 3-2 win over Gary Butcher.

West Midlands went ahead again as the second half got underway, Rob Thompson beating Aaron Hammond 3-2 only to see the hosts draw level when Tony Lincoln added his 3-2 win over Kieron O’Mahoney to their account. Two in a row for the visitors, thanks to Dean Simmonds-Fullwood and Gareth Watts wining against Jason Stalker and Crutch Woodward put them into an unbeatable position and although Paul Woods (Suffolk) won 3-2 against Sam Guest to leave the result hinging on the final game it produced a 3-2 win for John Morris against Gareth Randell to give the West Midlands men’s ‘B’ a 7-5 win.

The men’s ‘A’ like their ‘B’ team also opened up a 2-0 lead as Scott Baker took the match award with a 29.25 average when he  beat Nick Bloom 4-2 and Ryan O’Connor won 4-1 against Wayne Hammond. Gareth Randell momentarily reduced the arrears with his 4-3 win over Ian Jones before the away team opened up a 5-1 lead at the break when Darren Williams won 4-1 against Stewart Thompson, Richard Platt won 4-1 against David Ballard-Flatt and Michael Baker beat Jason Elvin 4-3.

A draw was guaranteed for the visitors as early as the seventh game when Shaun Carroll added his 4-1 win over Jordan Gissing and although Ben Poulton reduced the arrears for the hosts when he defeated Kevin Bambrick 4-1 the win was assured in the ninth with a 4-3 win from Adam Johnson over Max Haley. Gavin Baker took the score along to 8-2 with a 4-2 success over Andrew Dearing while Rob Warman made the score a little more respectable for Suffolk with his 4-3 win against John Platt, however the result was 9-3 to West Midlands after Ash Khayat closed the match with a 4-0 win over Josh Church to give an overall win of 19-17 to the West Midlands.

Despite the win West Midlands remain at the foot of the table but they have a game in hand on all the teams above them apart from Worcestershire.

The third fixture for the Black Country in division two matched them with their fellow promoted team from the third division Gloucestershire with Black Country registering four wins from the four games.

The ladies ‘B’ chalked up a very convincing 5-1 victory with wins from lady of the match Lacey Hughes (16.17), Sarah Tromans, Heather Wright, Doreen Hunt and Grace Angell with Hannah Smith the sole winner for Gloucestershire.

The men’s ‘B’ followed their ladies with an 8-4 win which turned out after opening up a 2-0 lead through Mark Rollinson and Dan Haden who in turn won 3-0 against Dean Terry and Stephen Williams to be a tale of two halves as from 2-0 down the home team ended the half leading 4-2 as Keith Lawrence won 3-2 against Connor Whitehouse, Wes Cole beat Adam Edgar 4-1, Steve Easton won 3-0 against Shane Sheridan and Mark Turley had a 3-2 win over Ali Hickinbottom.

The first four encounters in the ladies ‘A’ game saw Black Country take the lead twice and Gloucestershire cancel it out twice. Maxine Prosser was first on for the away side beating Carol Smith 3-2, Maria Lock levelling the score with her 3-1 win over Natalie Mansell. Chez Alcock restored Black Country’s lead in style beating Kirsty Dixon 3-0 with a superb award winning average of 23.12 only to see Vicky Palmley beat Shannon Hall 3-1 to level the score for a second time.

From 2-2 it all then went in Black Country’s favour as Sarah Jane Parker won 3-1 against Christine Marsh and rounding off the 4-2 win was Steph Konya with her 3-1 win over Jane Price.

The final overall score for the weekend was taken to a convincing 27-9 win for Black Country as the men’s ‘A’ side romped to a massive 10-2 victory. Gaz Johnson gave them their first win when he beat Sam Brough 4-3 and although the score was levelled in the second when Harry Williams won 4-2 against Justin Evans the visitors then opened up a 4-1 lead as Reece Colley beat Wes Cole 4-0, Paul Wells took the match award for his 4-0 win and 29.47 average against Andy Hammond and Dan Nicholls won 4-3 against Kieran Smith. At the midway point the score was 4-2 as Mark Johncock (Gloucestershire) closed the half with his 4-1 win over Alex Howells.

It was all one way traffic in the second half with win for Black Country’s Trevor Brennan, Shane Price, Rich Bowen, Martin Greenwood, Stephen Jones and Rob Smith who in turn accounted for Steve Handley (1-4), Darren Mitchell (2-4), Rob Long (1-4), Dean Thomas (0-4), Josh Lewis (2-4) and Rob Comben (2-4).

The win for Black Country has seen them move up the table from sixth to second just one point short of leaders West of England.

After just missing out on promotion from division three in what was their inaugural season in county darts last season Salopian are beginning the new campaign with renewed intent on going one stage further this campaign and actually achieving promotion.

In their latest fixture Salopian played away against Wirral, Saturday’s games saw the ladies ‘B’ win 4-2. They went two up with wins from lady of the match Paula Davies (16.61) who won 3-1 against Sandra James and Karen Weston who won by the same margin against Nat Farragher. Wirral pulled one back with their Debbie Robinson beating Claire Boyle 3-1 but the away team moved to within an ace of victory when Rachael Williams won 3-1 against Julie Baines. Pat Moody kept the hosts in the game with her similar 3-1 win over Kate Lynch but a 3-0 win for Tracey Dean over Sue Bonner gave Salopian the 4-2 victory.

The men’s ‘B’ were made to fight all the way for their close 7-5 win with Chris Sharp giving the hosts the early lead as he won the opener against Rob Paine 3-1. Darren Lane levelled the score when he won 3-2 against Steve Gannon before Andy Kynaston gave Salopian the lead for the first time in the game when he beat Phil Hignett 3-2. George Bell (Wirral) made it 2-2 with his 3-2 win over Adrian Logsdail but by the midway point Salopian were 4-2 up after Mark Jones won 3-1 against Lleyton Molyneux and Jamie Kynaston beat Tom Hartley 3-2.

The away team opened up a 5-2 lead as they kicked off the second half, Paul Ashworth winning 3-1 against Carl Coulls before Wirral had their best run of the game winning three in a row thanks to Robbie Ward, Terry Clancy and Phil Lambson who accounted for their respective opponents Steve O’Callaghan (3-2), Andy Mullinder (3-1) and Tony Middleton (3-2). The score now stood at five each with two to play, two games that both went to the visitors as Martin Riggs won 3-0 against Alex Di Stefano and man of the match Gary Crowther (25.91) won 3-0 against Chris Waddington for a 7-5 win.

The ladies ‘A’ were able to emulate the result of their ‘B’ side winning once again 4-2. Evonne Taylor won the opener against namesake Jen Taylor 3-0 and although Jane Robson squared the game with her 3-0 win against Sue Lane Salopian went 3-1 up when Allison Gallagher beat Katie Woodcock 3-1 and Julie Griffiths won 3-2 against Emma Evans. Kim Holden took the game to a decider when she won her tie with Sarah Roberts 3-1 but in the safe hands of Steph Clarke Salopian won the game when she defeated Joanne Toye 3-0. The match award was shared by Evonne Taylor and Steph Clarke who both had 17.68 averages.

With a 15-9 lead Salopian required just four wins from the men’s ‘A’ game to secure an overall victory and they achieved that in the first half. Jon Mansell (Salopian) won the first game against Mike Williamson 4-3 only for Mark Patmore to beat Paul Rowley and level the game. The away team went ahead again in the third when Joe Higgins won 4-2 against Marc Lynam but for a second time the lead was erased as Andy Cummins accounted for his opponent John Roberts with a 4-2 result. The last two games of the half both went in favour of Salopian as Ash Hilditch won 4-3 against Robbie Green and the visitors man of the match Matt Elsey (27.38) beat Scott Hudson 4-2.

Game number seven saw Salopian open up a 5-2 lead when Kacey Jones won 4-1 against Chris Farrell-Dennett but then it all went downhill for the away side as Steve Maish beat Ben Morgan 4-1, Darren Bradley won 4-2 against Terry Nash, Matty Smith had a 4-2 win over Mark Crutchley, Bryn Suckley won 4-0 against Scott Dockerty and rounding off a 7-5 win for Wirral was Steve McNally with his 4-1 win over Eddie Price.

Nevertheless a 20-16 win for Salopian keeps the second in the promotion table twelve points behind leaders Middlesex and four ahead of third placed Northumberland.

Saturday’s ‘B’ games saw the ladies finish all square with their top player being Kelly Haverson with a 17.48 average. The men’s team had a handsome 9-3 win with Dan Downey taking the match award averaging 26.37.

The ladies ‘A’ fell to a 4-2 defeat in Sunday’s games, Marie Riggs recording a lady of the match average of 23.12, but with the men adding their 7-5 win with a top average of 29.76 for Richard Parker, the overall score for the weekend was 22-14 to Shropshire their first win in three which lifted them up two places in the table to fourth and saw their opponents drop two places to fifth.
