A West Midlands Round Up

Warwickshire extended their unbeaten run in the Elite Premier Division of the UKDA National League with a 22-14 home win over Cheshire, however despite the win they go from two points off the top to four points behind leaders Lancashire as they won 24-12 away to Essex. Warwickshire remain second in the division with an eight point’s advantage over third placed Lincolnshire.

The weekend got off to a good start as the ladies ‘B’ won 4-2 with Marian Conway taking the match award for a second time in three games, her average 18.09. The men’s ‘B’ made it three straight wins with a 7-5 result, Martin Tonks (28.01) their top player.

Sunday saw the ladies ‘A’ emulate their ‘B’ team’s result as they also won 4-2 with the match award going to Natalie Gilbert for her super 23.86 average in a 3-0 win over Bev Martin.

The match award for the men’s ‘A’ went to Jamie Hughes as he accounted for Luke Littler with a 4-1 scoreline and a superb 30.97 average as his team, similar to the ladies was a copy of the ‘B’ team’s 7-5 win.

In the AON Championship Division West Midlands for the second time in three games lost. Playing away against Dorset the Midlanders went down 21-15 with the men’s ‘B’ side the sole winners.

The ladies ‘A’ and ‘B’ in turn suffered large 4-2 and 5-1 defeats with Gemma Barrett (16.90) and Sophie Singh (16.37) taking the respective ‘A’ and ‘B’ awards.

The men’s ‘B’ won 7-5 with Richard Platt their top player as he recorded an average of 25.16, while the ‘A’ side lost by the same margin, Darren Williams (27.97) their man of the match. The defeat leaves West Midlands still just two places off the foot of the table.

The Black Country have opened up a five points lead at the top of the Darts for Windows Division Three after adding a 25-11 home win over Northumberland who prior to the fixture were their nearest rivals level on the same 48 points.

For the men’s teams it was a great weekend with both the ‘A’ and ‘B’ winning 9-3, taking the respective man of the match awards were Reece Colley with a tremendous 33.40 average and Liam Kelly who averaged 26.84.

There were mixed fortunes for the ladies as Saturday’s ‘B’ team lost 4-2 with Shannon Hall (17.58) the award winner while the ‘A’ recorded a convincing 5-1 victory with Steph Konya (17.72) lady of the match.

The win sees Black Country now on 76 points with Gloucestershire taking over in second place on 71 points.

Golden Hind Lions are bottom of division one of the Four Oaks and District League without a win in five games but they were so unlucky in their latest fixture against local rivals Golden Hind as the match went to the wire and they lost in the final game of the night 2-1. The tie included two maximums, one for each team as W.Naylor chalked up his third for the Hind and M.Pearce his first for the Lions.

Division one leaders Boldmere St Mikes beat Walmley CSC Flights 8-1 to keep them two points to the good on second placed Erdington Arrows who won 6-3 at Highcroft Social. Erdington’s win also gives them a two point’s lead over Old Oscott Arrows, Red Lion, Golden Hind and Highcroft Social.

In the second division Bills Arrows had a narrow 5-4 win over St Thomas Arrows and Bishop Vesey defeated Sutton Sharks 7-2, both teams join Heartlands at the top of the table on eight points as Heartlands suffered their first defeat of the campaign when they surprisingly lost 6-3 away to Plough and Arrows.

D.Shannon (Oscott Social Club) hit this week’s only other 180.

Played six, won six that’s the record for Copper Fox in the Kings Norton League as they added their latest 5-2 success over Northfield to their account, they are now the only team in the league with a 100% win record. A 4-3 home win over Thurlestone has seen Rubery Legion move up two places in the table to second just two points behind the leaders while their opponents drop from third to fourth following their defeat.

E57 not only lost their number two spot but also their undefeated record as they went down 4-3 at Cock Inn and slip to third place, now four points off the top but with a game in hand.

The Sheldon and District Winter League have made a welcome return as they have got their season back underway after a long enforced break due to COVID-19.

In the Premier Division two teams tie after the opening fixtures, Dunky’s Boys and Langley Arrows in turn winning 8-1 against Iron Horse Flights and Mackadown Social. Hot on their heels with 7-2 wins are Highwood Gerry’s Boys and Sheldon Marlborough Arrows who got their wins at the expense of Hobs Meadow and Hornet.

A similar 8-1 victory sees Kingshurst Labour Club top Division One as they defeated Meadway Sports and Social. A 7-2 win for Yardley Ex Colts over Irish Centre putting them in second place. And 7-2 was the margin by which Langley Flights won at Hampton and Solihull CC to give them pole position in Division Two with a one leg advantage over both Lyndon Old Boys and Journeys End.

There’s no stopping Aston Inn Nomads in the Camp Hill League as they made it nine straight wins with a convincing 6-1 result at Moseley Arms. The win keeps Aston four points ahead with a game in hand on Sheldon Marlborough Flights and New Inn Lions as the former won 6-1 at Roost Rebels while the latter had a 5-2 defeat inflicted on them at Tyseley Newbies.

No change at the top of the Hilltop Friendly Tuesday Night League as both of the top two teams won 6-1, The Vine holds on to pole position after their win over bottom of the table Tamebridge, but they lead by the narrowest of margins, just one leg of average as second placed Dewdrop added their similar win at Horseley Tavern. Third in the table Waggon and Horses had a close 4-3 result away to next to bottom of the table Albion to leave them two points behind the leading duo.

Only average separates the top two teams in division one of the Shirley and District Monday Night League as leaders Dunky’s Boys won their home tie with former second placed Tippetts Bar 7-2 and Lodge, who have replaced Tippetts in the number two spot, won by the same 7-2 margin at Wharf. Tippetts Bar, now in third place are two points behind the top two teams.

In division two leaders Highwood were held to a close 5-4 win playing away against sixth in the table Legion Royals while their nearest rivals Wythall Legion had a more comfortable 7-2 win over next to bottom Sharmans Cross to keep them within two points of Highwood. Vikings and Solihull Municipal are also just two points off the top, Vikings winning 6-3 at Saracens Slingers and Solihull winning 5-4 at HSCC.

It was second taking on third in the Netherton Thursday Night League as Bulls Head played hosts to Townsend Social Club. The result was a close 5-4 win for the visitors as Townsend replaced their opponents in second place, both teams on 18 points with Townsend having the slightly better average. Leaders Dudley Ex Serviceman’s Club opened up a 4-0 lead at Spring Meadow Social Club but were made to wait until the second doubles game before securing their 5-4 win to open up a six point’s advantage over Townsend and Bulls Head.

Glasscutters ‘A’ had a setback to their title hopes in the Stourbridge Monday Night League as they suffered a 5-2 home defeat at the hands of the Quarry Bank Liberal Club team. This was Glasscutters first defeat in five while their opponents, who are placed fourth in the table, are one of only two teams in the league not to have lost. The other undefeated team is Lion, Stourbridge who in seventh place, like Quarry Bank Liberal have only played three games.

Gate Hangs Well and Ten Arches are joint second in the table both level on average and also level on eight points with Glasscutters ‘A’ who despite their defeat hang on to pole position with a two legs advantage.

Gornal Labour Club have moved up one place in the Sedgley and Gornal Tuesday Night League after beating New Inn 5-4, who were formerly second, the result puts both teams on 16 points four points adrift of leaders Old Bulls Head whose close 5-4 win at Five Ways takes their points tally to a perfect 20 from ten games.

 Fourth in the league Seven Stars and sixth placed Griffin were the week’s biggest winners as they recorded 8-1 wins over respective opponents Red Cow and Meadow Lark.

Bird in Hand ‘E’ made it five straight wins in the Stourbridge Wednesday Night League when they won 5-2 away to Raven. Second in the table Glasscutters ‘A’ have played one game fewer than the leaders, they handed out a 7-0 whitewash to their local rivals Glasscutters ‘B’ to make it four wins in as many games and keeps them within two points of Bird ‘E’ with a game in hand.

Late newcomers to the league White Horse chalked up their first win in two as they won 4-3 away to Bird ‘A’.
