Darts News – A West Midlands Round Up

Warwickshire will be playing their seventh fixture in the Premier Division of the UKDA National League this coming weekend, a tough away game against Yorkshire at the Glasshoughton W.M.C, 152 Leeds Road, Castleford, West Yorkshire, WF10 4PD. Yorkshire are currently third in the division with 139 points from seven games while Warwickshire have 113 points from six games and are placed seventh.

Warwickshire are not enjoying the best of starts so far as in the six games they have played, they have won one, drawn two and lost three, their win coming on the opening day of the new season when they won 25-11 playing away against Cornwall.

In the L-Style Division One of the UKDA National League, Black Country will be hoping to return to winning ways this coming weekend when they will be taking on second in the division, Somerset whose 151 points are some forty more than their hosts, however Black Country have played one game fewer than Somerset and hopes are that home advantage at Allens Sports Bar, Newhall Street, Tipton, West Midlands, DY4 9HL will be the deciding factor.

It was Divisional League Cup semi-finals week in the Sheldon and District Winter League and in the Premier League the current second and third placed teams in the league table, Langley Arrows and Sheldon Marlborough Arrows, in turn won 6-3 and 7-2 against Kingshurst Labour Club and RAFA, with Nigel Robinson notching a maximum for Kingshurst Labour.

The division one games produced a shock result as leaders Banbury Club lost 5-4 playing against bottom of the division Station Inn, who have won just one of their fourteen league fixtures so far. Third placed Trident Spears came up against fourth in the division Sheldon Marlborough Ridge and won 6-3.

Shirley Misfits progressed to the division two final with a 7-2 win over CBMC-A- and meeting them in the final will be Maggies, who won their game against Hollywood Social Club 5-4.

There were also a couple of rearranged league fixtures played which saw Smithswood Social Club finish level at 4-4 with Brian’s Flights in the Premier League and Hunters Moon win 6-3 at Castle Bromwich Spitfires in division two.

Northfield kept their hopes of the Kings Norton League title on track with a 5-2 win at Longbridge, this being Northfield’s sixteenth consecutive win and their unbeaten run has given them a six points lead, but from one more game, over second placed Greenlands who had a similar 5-2 win at Kings Norton Flights. Third placed Bourneville are a further four points adrift, they also have a game in hand on the leaders. Pavillions lost 6-1 at E57, but their D.Whitehouse chalked up the only maximum of the week.

In the Harborne and District League, leaders Copper Fox ‘R’, stretched their undefeated run to fourteen games when they won their home tie with Harborne Social 8-1, the win keeping them two points ahead of both Northfield Darts Club and Northfield Conservative Club. The Darts Club won 6-3 at Thimble Mill and have now played one game more than the leaders while the Conservative Club, who have played the same fourteen games as Copper Fox ‘R’, won their home game with Weoley Castle 7-2.

Three players K.Foxhall (Kings Norton Ex Serviceman’s Club), C.Fowler (Copper Fox ‘M’) and A.Busby (Northfield Conservative Club), all found the three treble twenties this week.

A 3-0 win over Emma Cain plus a 2-1 success against Andrew Richmond was enough for John Frost to hold on to pole position in the Heartlands Sugardarts M&E Co Double Top League this week. Frost’s forty-two points from seventeen games is three to the good on second in the league Steve Cain, who has played two games fewer than Frost after adding on his latest 2-1 win over Ellis Gundy and 3-0 success against Logan Swords. Fourth placed Martin Cooper has only played fourteen games and is  just seven points off the top of the table, he is the only undefeated player in the league, his latest victories being 3-0 against Stephen Smith  and 2-1 against Alex Downes to make it fourteen straight wins. In his 3-0 win over Steve McCormack, Matthew Cain chalked up the only maximum of the week.

Highcroft Hotdogs suffered only their first defeat in fourteen games in division one of the Sutton and District League when they lost 7-2 playing away against Old Horns Lions who are third in the division and four points behind their opponents. Despite the loss, Highcroft Hotdogs remain top of the division with twenty-six points and still have a four points buffer on second placed Nomads @ Hollyfields after they also lost, going down 6-3 at Heartlands.

Rise Club made it fourteen wins in as many games in division two, topping the table with a perfect twenty-eight points with a six points lead on Great Barr Social, Pint Pot Flights and Plough and Arrows. Great Barr Social won 7-2 at Misfits @ Holly Lane Sports and Social Club while Pint Pot Flights had a 6-3 home win over Oscott Social Club and Plough and Arrows also won 6-3 at Rosey Mac’s Bar.

 Just two maximums this week and they both came in division two from Neil Napier (Pint Pot Flights) and Rob Nelson (St Thomas Arrows.

Northfield Darts Club, consolidated their number one spot in division one of the South West Birmingham Clubs League when they won 8-0 at Quarry Lane Club, giving them a total of thirteen points and a lead of two over Northfield Conservative Club ‘B’ who won their home game with Perfection 5-3. Third placed Stirchley United had a 6-2 win at Kings Norton Ex Serviceman’s Club to leave them four points off the top but with two games in hand.

A 5-3 win at home over Northfield Conservative Club ‘A’ sees E57 hold on to pole position in division two, they have a two points advantage over their nearest rivals West Heath CEM after they won 7-1 at Bartley Green FC, CEM, have a game in hand on the leaders.

A convincing 8-1 win at Netherton Sports and Social Club keeps Quarry Bank Liberal Club top of the Sedgley and Gornal Tuesday Night League with fifty-two points. The leaders have a four points advanatge over second in the table Red Cow ‘1’ who also won 8-1 at Royal. Third and fourth placed Gornal British Legion and Netherton Sports and Social Club are both on eleven points, the former winning 7-2 at home over Bulls Head, both teams are ten points adrift of the leaders.

Dudley Ex Serviceman’s Club ‘A’ have played and won nine games in the Netherton Thursday Night 501 League while second and third placed Old Liberal Club and British Oak have played and won eight. A 6-3 win at Gate Hangs Well keeps Dudley Ex Serviceman’s Club ‘A’ top of the table with twenty-seven points, while Old Liberal Club were 8-1 winners at Rose and Crown and British Oak 6-2 winnes at Furnace to give both teams twenty-four points. After the top three there is a six points gap to fourth and fifth placed Plough and Harrow and Bulls Head.

The league recorded no fewer than six scores of 180 this week and they came from George Willetts (Old Liberal Club), Connor Allen (Furnace), Simon Bloomer (British Oak), Phil Tonks (Dudley Ex Serviceman’s Club ‘A’), Nathan Dingley (Plough and Harrow) and George Peters (Dudley Ex Serviceman’s Club ‘B’).

Five Ways make up the top four they had a 5-2 home win against Hinksford Arms to leave them six legs of average short of the leaders.

Third placed Quarry Bank Liberal Club are on the same ninety-nine points as Dudley Ex Serviceman’s Club, their 5-0 home win over Soccer Zone ‘A’ their twenty-ninth fixture, they have played one more than the Ex Serviceman’s Club.

Kings Head are now third with twenty-eight points, eight dewer than the leaders.

With the majority of teams having played twenty-four games in the Brierley Hill Monday Night League, only four points separate the top four teams. Dudley Ex Serviceman’s Club ‘A’ top the table with forty-two points after their latest 8-1 home win over Dudley Spors ‘A’ which gives them an average lead over second placed Bridge, whose 7-2 win at Stourbridge Cricket Club, puts them on the same forty-two points as the leaders but from one game less. Third placed Lamp Tavern have forty points and fourth in the league Raven are on thirty-eight.
