A 20-16 home win over Essex has seen Lancashire extend their lead at the top of the Premier Division of the UKDA National League from eighteen to twenty-five points as Suffolk, who were formerly placed second, had a bye and drop to fifth on 130 points, forty-one points off the top but with a game in hand on three of the four teams above them. Taking over in the number two spot is Lincolnshire their 23-13 home win over Hertfordshire seeing them move up one place. At the other end of the table, Dorset, despite losing their home tie with Yorkshire 19-17, moved off the foot of the table with ninety-one points, three more than Hertfordshire who have replaced them at the bottom of the table.
In Glamorgan’s 18-18 draw at Warwickshire they took two of the top averages, the men’s ‘A’ with Mark Challenger beating Noel Grant 4-1 with a super 33.77 average, and for the ladies ‘B’, Tia Sterio who averaged 24.64 in her 3-0 win over Nina Bolt. For the men’s ‘B’ it was Ryan Walsh (Hertfordshire) who had a 30.65 average in his 4-3 win against Lincolnshire’s Darren Phillips. Topping the averages for the ladies ‘A’ was the ever-green Trina Gulliver MBE (Lincolnshire) who won 3-1 against Jo Kitchen (Hertfordshire) and had a 26.54 average.
In the Andy Wheeler Fisheries Championship Division, Hampshire had a bye and as a result lost their top position and fell to second behind new leaders West Midlands who had a vital 22-14 home win over Middlesex who were formerly third in the table and West Midlands second. The win for the Midlanders has given them a total of 147 points, a lead of sixteen over Hampshire and seventeen over third placed Middlesex. A 21-15 defeat at Northamptonshire sees Oxfordshire remain rooted at the foot of the division with ninety-five points, six fewer than next to bottom Cambridgeshire who went down 19-17 at Cheshire and fifteen behind Cheshire who are two places off the bottom of the table.
Best men’s ‘A’ average of 32.87 went to West Midlands Daniel Hands who won 4-1 against Brandon Pearson (Middlesex), the ‘B’ top men’s player being Mark Chapman (Cambridgeshire) who had a 30.66 average in his 4-1 win over Cheshire’s Mal Barrow. For the ladies the best ‘A’ game average was 23.67 achieved by Northamptonshire’s Rebecca Rose who had a 3-1 win in her game with Oxfordshire’s Babs Manning. Shellbie Guest (West Midlands) topped the charts for the ladies ‘B’ with a 22.77 average and 3-0 win over Louise Grannell (Middlesex).
Clwyd held on to pole position in the L-Style Division One table, their 20-16 home win over Black Country taking their points tally to 160 and giving them an increased lead of five points making it a nine points advantage over second placed Somerset, who too, held on to their placing although they finished on the wrong side of the 19-17 result at home to Leicestershire. There was no joy for bottom placed Berkshire as they lost 22-14 away to Devon.
Terry Nash’s fantastic 35.16 average in his straight 4-0 win over Merseyside’s Jack Boardman saw the Salopian man top the division two men’s ‘A’ average while the ‘B’ award went to Nash’s team-mate Eddie Price who beat Merseyside’s Mike Warren also 4-0. The ladies ‘A’ award went to Clwyd’s Leanne Topper who in her game against Black Country’s Abbey Hunt, won 3-1 and averaged 25.89, the top ladies ‘B’ average was 22.30 going to Staffordshire’s Danielle Pearce in her 3-2 win over Worcestershire’s Zena Grand.
In division two, Norfolk extended their lead at the top of the table slightly from, twelve to fourteen points with a their 23-13 win at Cleveland while second placed Nottinghamshire had a 21-15 win at Surrey, however despite the defeat Surrey move up two places from the bottom of the table as Buckinghamshire replaced them at the foot of the table following their 24-12 loss at Tyne and Wear and West of England dropped into the bottom two after they went down 26-10 at Northumberland.
West of England’s Tony Smith was the top men’s ‘A’ side player with a 31.27 average in what was a 4-2 win for Smith over Northumberland’s Lee Shanks, with a 28.02 average, Alfie Thompson (Norfolk) topped the men’s B’ averages, winning 4-2 against Cleveland’s Collin Foxton. The top average for the ladies ‘A’ was 22.92, which went to Tyne and Wear’s Angela Kirkwood in her 3-1 win over Buckinghamshire’s Alexandra Dorney, 21.17 was the award winning average for the ladies ‘B’, recorded by Surrey’s Lisa Jane Munt as she accounted for her opponent Jenny White(Nottinghamshire) with a straight 3-0 result.
Shropshire continue to ride high in division three, their latest fixture seeing them win 21-15 at Breconshire to keep intact their eleven points lead at the top of the table over second placed Gwynedd who had a similar 21-15 win at bottom of the division, Isle of Wight.
Taking the men’s match awards for their top averages were, Kevin Lunn (Bedfordshire) who averaged 30.04 in a 4-2 win over Wirral’s Terry Clancy, the ‘B’ award going to Wirral’s Charlie Hughes for his 28.63 average which he chalked up in his 4-0 win over Bedfordshire’s Oli Ellis. Alannah Waters-Evans (Breconshire) had the best ladies ‘A’ average of 20.54 which she got in her 3-2 win against Shropshire’s Sarah Williams. The ladies ‘B’ award went to Chaniece Witcher (Wiltshre) who won 3-1 against Karrina Barnes (Montgomery and Radnor) and averaged 19.22.

Following a 20-16 defeat at Suffolk, in the Premier Division of the UKDA National League, Warwickshire were hoping to bounce back with a home win over Glamorgan, in what was to be their sixth fixture and their visitors seventh.
Going into the fixture, Warwickshire were placed seventh with ninety-four points and their opponents fifth with 116 points.
The ladies ‘A’ got off to a good start with Lucy Shepherd winning 3-0 against Sophie Price, lady of the match Natalie Gilbert doubled the lead with her, once again straight 3-0 result, over Jo Pugh and 23.86 average. Tia Sterio pulled one back for Glamorgan with her 3-0 win against Nina Bolt, only to see the home side ensure themselves of a share of the spoils when Kacie O’Connor beat Abbie Brewster 3-2 to put them 3-1 up. The result was taken to the final game after Donna Buckley added the visitors second win when she beat Jodie Rigg 3-0. The 4-2 win was secured when Kirsty Hinchliffe won the final game against Michelle Jones 3-0.
After going 1-0 down when Anthony Waters won 4-1 against Jason Meek, the men’s ‘B’ then opened up a 4-1 lead as Zac Prince beat Gavin Sterio 4-2, William Naylor won 4-2 against Liam Wigley and in the process earned himself the match award for his 27.03 average, Jason Prince moved the score along to 3-1 with his 4-2 win over Bleddyn Lyons and Taylor McGuckian made it 4-1 when he won 4-1 against Shaun Dibbs. The final game of the half went to Glamorgan as John Cook won 4-3 against Mark Carter.
The second half was mainly Glamorgan’s as they won five of the six games. Stewart Smith and Steven Inkpen in turn won 4-3 against Mark Strong and Dave Hill before Ian Shaw recorded Warwickshire’s fifth win when he accounted for Josh Lloyd with a 4-3 result. The away side took the last three games as Richard Jones beat Keith Deeley 4-1, David Neads won 4-2 against Karl Reynolds and Fabian Tapner won 4-0 against Lee Mills to give Glamorgan the 7-5 win.
It was a weekend to quickly forget for the ladies ‘A’ as they slumped to a 5-1 defeat with Caroline Pike their only winner as she won 3-1 against Donna Thomas with an award winning average of 20.71. Warwickshire’s winners were Jamie Hughes, who beat Dan Beynon 4-2, Ryan Jackson who had a 4-2 win over Sean Fisher and Sam Price whose 4-1 win against Hywel Manuel earned him the man of the match award for his 31.51 average.

With Warwickshire already certain of a men’s ‘A’ win with the score at 7-3, Glamorgan won the penultimate encounter against Mark Challenger 4-1, but a similar 4-1 win for Matty Washbrooke over Richie Edwards gave the hosts men’s ‘A’ an 8-4 win and put the final score for the weekend all square at 18-18.
With only a share of the points Warwickshire actually dropped one place in the table to eighth with 113 points but they do have a game in hand on half of the teams above them.

Sam Bissell and Matt Coleman in turn had 4-2 wins over Phil Jones and Andy Alker, Danny Chiswell beat Nick Hailes 4-3 and to round off the first half Rich Bowen not only won 4-0 against Dan Alker but in the process earned himself the match award for his 27.45 average.
From 5-1 up, Black Country then were pegged back to level terms as Ed Jones won 4-0 against Mark Rollinson, Shaun Thompson beat Matthew Lloyd 4-3, Craig Billingsley had a 4-2 win over Neil Steventon and Derek Williams made it 5-5 with his 4-3 success over Ian Townsend. Wayne Hobday put Black Country 6-5 up with his 4-2 win against Luke Smith and with a 4-1 success for Jake Shipley over Terry Bagby, the away side won the tie 7-5.
The overall 10-8 lead for Black Country was extended to 11-8 when Stella Sims won 3-2 against India Edwards but that lead was quickly eroded as Clwyd won the remainder of the ladies ‘A’ games. Becky Jones won 3-1 against Grace Angell, Nia Price had a 3-2 win against Doreen Hunt, Bethan Jones and Rachel Kingdon, in turn won 3-0 against Heather Wright and Sarah-Jane Parker and rounding off the 5-1 win was Leanne Topper with her 3-1 success against Abbey Hunt. As the sole winner, Stella Sims took the match award with a 14.88 average.
Going into the men’s ‘A’ match, the running score was 13-11 to Clwyd, both teams still having everything to play for.
As on many occasions, the first throw advantage was decisive and this was no exception as the first six games all went that way with Black Country taking the lead three times and parity restored on each occasion. A 4-2 win over Chris Dobbins saw Steve Jones give Black Country the early lead only to see Adam Paxton beat Jordan Grainger 4-1 to level the game. The lead was restored for the away side by their man of the match Tom Bissell who had a superb average of 33.97 in his 4-0 win over Phil Hughes. For a second time it was level pegging when Ben Walker won 4-2 against Michael Powell and then for a third time the visitors went ahead when Trev Brennan handed out a 4-0 whitewash to his opponent Jodie Challinor. The score was 3-3 at the midway point, Baz Tym ending the half with his 4-2 win over George Willetts.
For the first time in the match the hosts went ahead in the seventh when David Davies beat Paul Wells 4-0, however for a fourth time the match was levelled, this time it was Reece Colley’s 4-2 win over Luke Newport that made it 4-4. Clwyd then opened up a 6-4 lead when Paul Alley won 4-2 against Dan Homer and Mark Leach beat Harry Williams 4-0. Jamie Rollinson kept hopes alive for a draw for the Black Country when he won 4-0 against Rhys Edwards but it was a 7-5 win for Clwyd as Deian Roberts won the final game against Kieron Bridgwater 4-3.
The overall 20-16 defeat saw Black Country drop one place to eighth with 111 points, and although they have a game in hand on the top three teams they trail leaders Clwyd by some forty-nine points.
