Darts News – A West Midlands Round Up
It was cup quarter-finals week in the Harborne and District League, first the League Cup in which current league leaders Northfield Conservative Club won 5-2 at fifth in the league Smethwick Cricket Club with S.Jones notching a maximum for the winners. Second in the league Copper Fox ‘R’ were the round’s biggest winners as they accounted for Cock Inn with a 6-1 result. Second from bottom of the table Weoley Castle Pub, despite a 180 from S.Hopkins beat bottom placed Windsor Complex 5-2 and joining them in the semis will be tenth placed and local rivals Weoley Castle WMC who pulled off the biggest shock of the round winning 4-3 against Northfield Darts Club who are placed third in the league table.
In the last four games of the Consolation Cup P.Sitshebo recorded a maximum and a fourteen darts game but it was not enough for his team, Harborne Social, to avoid a 6-1 defeat to Copper Fox ‘M. The Mill won 5-2 against Avenue Social and Kings Norton Ex Serviceman’s Club had a close 4-3 win at Bourneville, making up the last four on finals night will be Lion Bar who had a bye.

As the Four Oaks and District league are winding down their season they played off the finals of their Prestridge Shield and Roy Bird Shield. In the former, division one champions Nomads @ Hollyfields won 6-3 against Bishop Vesey who finished their campaign twelve points short of their opponents in sixth place.
The Roy Bird Shield also finished with a 6-3 scoreline, Heartlands beating seventh placed Red Lion who finished two places above them in the division one table.

With just three more games to play in the Kings Norton league, leaders Northfield require just one more win to secure the title after their latest 5-2 success at Cock Inn, the win taking their points tally to forty-six and keeping them six points to the good on second placed Copper Fox whose 7-0 win at Toby Jug puts them level on average with the leaders. With an eight point’s advantage over third placed Bournebrook, Copper Fox have already guaranteed themselves the runners-up spot after Bournebrook lost their home game against Stirchley 5-2. Bourneville’s 4-3 win at E57 leaves them with a chance of finishing third in the league as they are only two points behind Bournebrook and have a game in hand plus a better average.

Week three of the new season in the South West Birmingham Clubs Summer League and Northfield Darts and Stirchley United remain locked together on the same points and average at the top of the division one table after the former won 5-2 at Kings Norton Ex Serviceman’s Club and the latter won their home tie against Northfield Conservative Club ‘B’ by the same 5-2 margin. Quarry Lane Club’s 4-3 win at Northfield Conservative Club ‘A’ leaves them third in the division, one point behind the leading duo, J.Lambert hit a 180 for the Conservative Club.
A maximum from C.Airey plus a 160 break from N.Reynolds helped Longbridhge United to a 6-1 home win over E57 in division two to keep their 100% record intact and also their pole position with a lead of two points over West Heath CEM whose 4-3 win at Perfection has seen them move up three places in the table tosecond with four points. Fourth placed Bournbrook had a bye this week, they are on two points but a win in their game in hand could see them draw level with West Heath CEM.

With two wins in their opening two games in group one of the Sheldon and District Summer League Langley Arrows are outright leaders, taking their number of points to four with a 5-3 win at Mackadown Sports and Social Club. Trident Spears and Raven Arrows are joint second they squared up to each other this week and the game finished all-square at 4-4 to put both teams on three points.
In group two Banbury Club and RAFA share the top spot with three points each, the latest fixtures saw the two teams face each other on the RAFA home board with the result being 4-4. Kingshurst Labour Club won their home tie with EBAHA 6-2 to leave them third in the group with two points the same number as fourth placed Smithswood Social Club after their 4-4 draw with Hunters Moon.
Old Salts Darts made it two wins in as many games in group three, their latest fixture seeing them win 6-2 at home against Shirley Misfits. Second placed Langley Flights won their home game with Sheldon Marlborough Ridge 5-3 to leave them two points short of the leaders but with a game in hand.
Sheldon Marlborough Flights top group four,their 6-2 home win over Trident Flights giving them a one point lead on their nearest rivals Iron Horse Rebels who were held to a 4-4 home draw by third placed Lyndon Old Boys.
Just the one maximum in the league this week and that came from ever-green Neil Parsonage (Raven Arrows).

Spring Meadow have changed their home venue in the Silver End Sunday Morning League and it appears it may also have changed their luck as previously they were top of the table but their first game at their new venue Riddins Tavern saw them lose 6-2 at High Acres ‘A’ to drop down to third place with twenty-three points one short of new leaders Old Star who made it eight wins in nine games when they won 6-2 at the Bell. Second placed Dudley Sports ‘A’ are also one point behind Old Star but like Riddins have played one game more than them, their latest fixture seeing them also win 6-2 at home against Ten Arches.

The League Cup was on the fixture card for the Stourbridge and District Monday Night League and the biggest win of the round went to two teams, current league leaders Gornal British Legion as they handed out a 7-0 whitewash to their hosts Queens Head and Crestwood who won by the same margin at home against bottom of the table Glasscutters ‘B’. There were 5-2 wins for Seven Stars, Five Ways and Mount Pleasant who in turn accounted for Raven ‘B’, Raven ‘A’ and Glassworks. Both Gigmill and Old Liberal Club had close 4-3 wins over respective opponents Ten Arches and Netherton Conservative Club. Glasscutters ‘A’ were awarded a 7-0 walkover against Ashwood.

Two games into the second half of the season and Wonder made it nineteen wins in nineteen games in the Rowley Monday Night League as the beat their hosts Snooks 8-1. The win gives Wonder, a two point’s lead on second placed and reigning champions Bell, who won their game at Tividale FC 6-3. After the top two teams there is a ten points gap to third, fourth and fifth placed Tividale FC, Gate Hangs Well and Plough and Harrow, Gate Hangs Well beating Vine 6-3 and Plough and Harrow going down 6-3 at home to Hawthorns ‘B’.
There were five maximums and two 160 breaks in the league this week, the 180’s going to I.Vincent (Hawthorns ‘B’), L.Billingham (Ex Serviceman’s), P.Milsom and J.Thomas (Rowley Bar and Grill) and J.Allen (Gate Hangs Well). Kicking off their games with a 160 break were L.Homer (Gate Hangs Well) and J.Tart (Tividale FC).

Mount Pleasant were the only losers in the top seven teams in the Brierley Hill Monday Night League as they lost 7-2 away to Glasshouse ‘B’ who are seventeenth in the league, the defat sees Mount hang on to fifth place but they are now some eighteen points behind leaders Dudley Ex Serviceman’s Club ‘A’ who added an 8-1 win at Dudley Sports ‘B’ to their tally to put them on seventy-eight points with a six points lead on second placed Bridge who had a narrow 5-4 win at Starving Rascal. Third place Maverick are a further four points adrift after they won 7-2 at Tommy Turners ‘B’.

Yvonne Taylor marches on in the West Midlands Ladies Super League making it thirty straight wins when she beat Jacqueline Maiden and Jacqui Simmons 3-0, her 120 points nine more than her nearest rival Jacqueline Maiden, who after her defeat to Taylor won 3-1 against Hannah Davies. Kat McLean moves up one place to third following her 3-0 wins over Sarah Barrett and Jodie Rowlands giving her 104 points from 32 games while Gemma Barrett suffered a 3-0 defeat to Jodie Rowlands to see her drop from third to fourth on 101 points, however she has only played 31 games.

A 3-2 home win for Kings Head over Gilbert’s Bar ‘B’ and a 5-0 home success for Staffordshire Knot against William Archer has seen both winning teams draw level on points and average at the top of the West Midlands Men’s Super League. The top duo’s 62 points, is seven more than third in the table Dog and Partridge who won their home game with Gilbert’s Bar ‘A’ 3-2, fourth placed Dudley Ex Serviceman’s Club are on the same 55 points as Dog and Partridge after they lost 3-2 at Chase Social. Dog and Partridge have a game in hand on the two teams above them and also Dudley Ex Serviceman’s Club.

None of the top six players in the Amblecote RBL Premier League played this week but they all hold on to their respective placing’s, Jason Lowe leading the way with 268 points from 40 games, Nick Fullwell second on 238 points from 38 games, Ian Townsend is third and played 38 games with 231 points while fourth in the league Cayden Smith has 227 points and only played 35 games. Paul Wells, in fifth place has also only played 35 games and has 222 points, twenty more than Gavin Smith who makes up the top six with 202 points from 36 games.

Scott Baker added an 8-0 win over Kurt Wright plus a 4-4 draw with Mark Zambra to his division one account in the Gilbert’s Bar Monday Night Singles League to take his points to 131, only three more than second placed Simon Mountford but Mountford has played four games more than Baker after his 6-2 win over Steve Lynch.
Michael Smith leads the way in division two and although he didn’t play this week he still has a 26 points lead plus a game in hand on second placed Richard Brown who was held to a 4-4 draw by Alex Owen
Olly Garratt tops division three, his 7-1 win against Josh Rowley taking his number of points to 129, twenty-eight more than second in the division Keogh Bate who went down 7-1 to Joanne Meachin. Third in the division Michele Pritchard is four points behind Bate but with three games in hand.
