Darts News – A West Midlands Round Up
With the Sheldon and District Winter League fast drawing to an end the latest on the fixture card was the preliminary round of their singles knockout which was played down to the last eight players at four different venues with the last two in each venue going through to the next round. The event attracted a superb 104 entrants and winning their way through to the quarter-finals were, Bobby Nixon, Sam Hicks, Stuart Reeve, Stephen Shepherd, Andy Newman, Danny Chiswell, Neil Parsonage and Tom Garfield.

On the agenda for the Kings Norton League was the preliminary round of their League Cup. There were no real shock results, possibly the 10-8 win for Dingle over Stirchley the only surprise as Stirchley are placed sixth in the league and Dingle tenth. Third placed Bournebrook had a narrow 11-10 victory over Bourneville who are fourth in the league table and in the other game played Longbridge, who are two places off the foot of the table had a 12-9 win over E57 who are next to bottom of the table. N.Reynolds (E57) chalked up the only maximum of the round.

Heartlands Sugardarts M&E Co Double Top League have got their new season underway with a tremendous twenty-six players. The league is up to week two and of those twenty-six starters only seven of them remain undefeated. The number one spot is currently shared by Clive Austin and Steve Cain who have both played and won three games, dropping just the one leg in the process. Third, fourth and fifth placed Martin Cooper, John Burdett and Alex Downes have all played and won two fixtures while Matthew Cain and Dylan Bloomer are also undefeated but have only played one fixture so far. Emma Cain, Gemma Whatley, Adam Rogers, Charley Demery, Steve McCormack and Matt Richmond are all seeking their first win of the campaign but there is a long way to go in which to get wins under their belts.
Highlights of the first two weeks games have seen John Frost record a 160 break and Adam Rogers achieve a ten darts game.

It’s been semi-finals week in the Four Oaks and District League, first the Coronation Shield in which sixth placed in division one Bishop Vesey had a narrow 8-7 victory over Erdington Arrows who are third in division two. Another division one side Walmley CSC Flights, who are fourth had a convincing 14-1 win over Drakes Drum who are top of division two.
In the last four games of the Norman Day Cup Nomads @ Hollyfields, who are currently second in division one won 13-2 against Deer’s Leap who are placed seventh in division two. Seventh in division one, Red Lion won their fixture with Sutton Sports, who are two places off the foot of the division two table, 10-5.
There were a couple of rearranged league fixtures played which in division one saw Heartlands lose their home game with Old Oscott Arrows 6-3 to see the winners move two places up the table to fifth with eighteen points, nine short of leaders Highcroft Hotdogs, Heartlands remain two places off the foot of the table. In division two Rosey Mac’s won 6-3 at home against Sutton Sharks to go second within four points of leaders Drakes Drum but they have played three more fixtures than the leaders. Sutton Sharks are three places off the bottom of the division.

There were no fewer than eight maximums scored in the latest round of fixtures in the Netherton Thursday Night 501 League and finding the magical three treble twenties were J.Brookes, C.Hadlington (Spring Meadow Social), L.Kendall (Dudley Ex Serviceman’s Club ‘B’), S.Tipper (Bulls Head), M.Archer (Hill and Cakemore Ex Serviceman’s Club), D.Stevens (Cherrywood), N.Fullwell (Old Liberal Club) and C.Moreton (British Oak. N.Dingley (Plough and Harrow) had a superb maximum break of 170.
On the league front leaders Dudley Ex Serviceman’s Club ‘A’ made it eighteen straight wins when they handed out a 9-0 whitewash to their hosts Hill and Cakemore Ex Serviceman’s Club to open up a six points lead over second placed Old Liberal Club who suffered a 5-4 home defeat at the hands of the third placed team British Oak who are now just three points, one win, short of their opponents. Third placed Bulls Head won 7-2 at home against Townsend Social Club to leave them twelve points off the top of the table.

The Hilltop Friendly Tuesday Night League moved away from their domestic fixtures this week and staged a Charity event at Allen’s Sports and Social Club, Tipton. The final brought together Connor Whitehouse and Paul Price with the former the eventual winner. The evening raised a total of £265.

The Silver End Sunday Morning League is up to week three of their new season and of the twenty starters to the new season five remain undefeated. Three teams share the number one spot, level on points and average and they are Dudley Sports ‘A’, Spring Meadow and Tenth Lock. In the latest round of fixtures Dudley Sports ‘A’ played at home and handed out a first defeat to Old Liberal Club who drop from pole position to sixth following their 5-3 reversal. Spring Meadow won 6-2 at Old Star, another team to lose for the first time and they drop from sixth to ninth in the table. Tenth Lock had a home game against Pensnett Liberal Club ‘B’ which they won 5-3. After the top three come Brickmakers Arms and Ten Arches who are both on the same nine points as the top three but both trail by just two legs of average after in turn they beat respective opponents High Acres ‘A’ 5-3 and Ashwood 6-2.
New Talbot ‘A’, Dudley Sports ‘B’, Ashwood, New Talbot ‘B’ and Pensnett Liberal Club ‘B’ are al still looking for their first points of the season.

The Sedgley and Gornal Tuesday Night League fixtures brought together the league’s top two teams in game twenty-one, leaders New Inn 2 playing hosts to second placed Gornal British Legion. The result was an emphatic 8-1 success for New Inn 2 to open up a four points lead over their opponents who hang on to second place with thirty-four points. Third in the league Mount Pleasant are a further two points adrift after their latest fixture which saw them go down 5-4 at Royal who are placed fifth on twenty-six points, eight fewer than their visitors. Making up the top four is Netherton Sports and Social Club who had an 8-1 home win over Triangle who are just two places off the bottom of the table.

In the latest round of fixtures in the West Midlands Ladies Super League the evening began with Gemma Barrett top of the table, her position looking solid when she began with a 3-1 win over Jackie Trott but then she squared up to undefeated Evonne Taylor who won the tie 3-0, and with a further 3-1 win over Sarah Maybury Evonne Taylor took over in pole position with eighty points from twenty games and Gemma Barrett, who has played twenty-three games and has amassed a total of seventy-eight points dropped to second in the table. Despite not playing this week Jacqueline Maiden remains in third place with sixty-nine points from twenty games and has a five points advantage over fourth in the table Kat McLean who on the night beat Debbie Davies 3-0 and Claire Hobbs 3-1 to give her a total of sixty-four points from nineteen games.

The Black Country Men’s Super League have got their new season underway and the early pacesetters are Soccer Zone ‘A’, Northfield Darts Club, Quarry Bank Liberal Club and Allen’s Bar ‘A’ who all kicked off their new campaigns with straight 5-0 victories. Soccer Zone ‘A’ won at home against Whiteheath Taven, Northfield Darts Club also played at home and beat Soccer Zone ‘B’, Quarry Bank Liberal Club, again with a home tie defeated Ten Arches and Allen’s Bar ‘A’ beat their ‘B’ side.

The Wolverhampton Tuesday Night League played off their Bottom Four Cup, New Gate Inn ‘B’ and Junction ‘D’ both making their exits in the semi-finals. The eventual winners were Three Crowns who defeated Corpus Christi ‘B’ in the final.
