Darts News – A West Midlands Round Up

With games fast running out now in the Sheldon and District Winter League, the premier league title is still up for grabs as current leaders Langley Arrows, after adding a 7-2 home win over Banbury Club to their account are on twenty-six points from fifteen games with one more to play and second placed Sheldon Marlborough Arrows, who won by the same 7-2 margin at home against RAFA are on the same twenty-six points as Langley Arrows but with two games to play.

Sam Hicks (RAFA) hit the only maximum in the league this week, while John Buckingham (Highwood) recorded eleven and twelve darts games in his team’s 9-0 home win over Brian’s Flights.

With two more game to play, EBAHA should take the Shadow League title as they are on six points, two to the good on second placed RAFA who have only one more fixture remaining.

With the majority of teams in division one having two more fixtures to play a 6-3 win at Hollywood Social Club appears to have wrapped up the title for Smithswood Social Club who have twenty-six points and a lead of six over both second and third placed Old Salts Darts and Kingshurst Labour Club, although Kingshurst still have three games to play. Old Salts Darts and Kingshurst Labour Club both won 6-3 in turn against Yardley Ex Colts and Sheldon Marlborough Ridge.

Kingshurst Labour Club, with fourteen points and one game remaining have won the shadow league as second placed Sheldon Marlborough Flights are six points adrift of the leaders with only two more games to play.

Only average separates the top two teams in division two, leaders Moseley Rugby Club had their fixture with Digby postponed but remain top with a two legs of average lead on second placed Sheldon Marlborough Flights who lost ground in the title race as they went down 8-1 away to third placed Raven who have sixteen points. Fourth placed Lyndon Old Boys are not out of the title race, after having a bye this week they trail Moseley by two points and have two games in hand on all three teams above them.

The shadow league title is also undecided leaders Raven are on ten points from six games with two remaining while second placed Maggies have six points with three games still to play.

The Harborne and District League are two games into the second half of their season and leaders Northfield Conservative Club continued their undefeated run in the league with a resounding 8-1 home win over Harborne Stores. Second and third placed Copper Fox ‘R’ and Copper Fox ‘M’ are both four points adrift of the leaders, ‘R’ winning 7-2 at home against Kings Norton Ex Serviceman’s Club while ‘M’ won 6-3 playing at Bourneville.

Four players found the three treble twenties this week, E.Simpson (Copper Fox ‘R’), M.Fisher (Kings Norton Ex Serviceman’s Club) plus J.Goulding and A.Beagrie from Thimble Mill.

The Kings Norton League are up to game fifteen of a scheduled twenty-six games and leaders Northfield with a 5-2 home win over third in the league Bournebrook made it fifteen wins in fifteen games and have a six points advantage over second placed Copper Fox and Bournebrook, Copper Fox handing out a 7-0 whitewash to their hosts Perfection. After the top three come Greenlands and Bourneville, the former winning 5-2 at home against Dingle while the latter went down 5-2 at Cock Inn to put them both on twenty points with Greenlands having the slender one leg of average lead over Bourneville.

Just the three maximums to report this week and they were provided by R.Mann (Copper Fox)), T.Jeffs (Bournebrook) and A.Bailles (Bourneville).

Game eighteen fixtures in division one of the Four Oaks and District League brought together the division’s top two teams when leaders Highcroft Hotdogs travelled to take on second placed Nomads @ Hollyfields. The result was a 6-3 win for Nomads @ Hollyfields to take their total points to twenty-six, just one short of Highcroft Hotdogs but with a game in hand. Third in the division Walmley CSC Flights won 7-2 at Heartlands to give them twenty-two points from sixteen games and a lead of two plus a game in hand on fourth in the division Old Horns Lions who had a 6-3 win away to Old Oscott Arrows.

Highlights from division one saw Adam Cooksey (Walmley CSC Flights) hit a maximum and record a nine darts game plus Kevin Smith (Nomads @ Hollyfields) who had a 160 break.

There was also a top of the table clash in division two with leaders Drakes Drum playing away against second placed Erdington Arrows, the outcome was a close 5-4 win for Drakes Drum to open up a six points lead, not only over their opponents but also over third and fourth placed Rosey Mac’s and St Thomas Arrows, Rosey Mac’s going down 6-3 at Deer’s Leap and St Thomas Arrows winning 5-4 at home against Sutton Sharks with Garry Stait having a 160 break plus a nine darts game for the winners.

To provide an equal number of games for divisions one and two in the South West Birmingham Clubs League, the top three teams in division one will play each other once again as will the bottom three teams.

In the latest round of fixtures Northfield Conservative Club ‘B’, who lead division one, had a bye while second placed Northfield Darts Club won 4-3 at Longbridge United to move to within two points of the leaders who now have a game in hand, M.Lloyd having a 160 break for Longbridge.

In division two Quarry Lane Club lead the way with nineteen points after their latest 6-2 home success over Northfield Conservative Club ‘A’. Perfection, in second place, won 5-3 at home against Kings Norton Ex Serviceman’s Club to keep within four points of the leaders.

A close 4-3 home win over Five Ways sees Gornal British Legion hold on to pole position in the Stourbridge and District Monday Night League with twenty points from their eleven games. Close on the heels of the leaders is Old Liberal Club whose 5-2 home win over Seven Stars puts them on the same twenty points as the Legion but from ten games, of which the Liberal Club have won all of them. A 6-1 home win over Glassworks sees Ten Arches ‘A’ remain third with the same twenty points as the two teams above them. Glasscutters ‘A’ taking over fourth place from Bird in Hand after they won 6-1 at Raven ‘A’ and Bird in Hand had a bye.

Dudley Ex Serviceman’s Club winning run continues in the Netherton Thursday Night 501 League, making it seventeen straight wins when they beat their visitors Townsend Social Club 9-0 to keep them three points ahead of their nearest rivals Old Liberal Club who are just one win short of the leaders after their 9-0 win at Cherrywood. Third in the league British Oak are a further six points behind despite their 6-3 win at Old Glasshouse.

There were no fewer than seven scores of 180 this week and they came from S.Homer (Old Glasshouse), S.Charlesworth (Spring Meadow Social), S.Tipper (Bulls Head), N.Dingley (Plough and Harrow), J.Rollinson (Dudley Ex Serviceman’s Club ‘A’), T.Johnson (Hill and Cakemore Ex Serviceman’s Club) and N.Fullwell (Old Liberal Club) who also had a 160 break, as did C.Hadlington (Spring Meadow Social).

In the Rowley Monday Night League leaders Wonder took their unbeaten run to eleven games when they added a 7-2 home win over Romsley Cricket Club to their account, their perfect twenty-two points two to the good on reigning champions and second placed Bell who were 6-3 winners at Rowley Bar and Grill, with T.Brennan recording a nine darts game for Bell. A further two points adrift in third place with eighteen points is Tividale FC who won 7-2 at Tividale Sports to keep them two points ahead of fourth placed Snooks who were also 7-2 winners at home against Gate Hangs Well with N.Bradley having not only a 160 break for Snooks but also chalking up a super eight darts game. D.Whittle (Rowley Labour Club) hit the only maximum of the wee in his team’s 5-4 win at Ex Serviceman’s Club.

Third placed Sandwell are two points off the top, their latest game seeing them win 5-2 at Horseley Tavern ‘B’.

An 8-1 win at Parkes Hall keeps New Inn 2 top of the Sedgley and Gornal Tuesday Night League and keeps them two points ahead of second placed Gornal British Legion who won their home game with Jolly Crsipin 6-3. Both of the top two teams have played seventeen games while third and fourth placed Mount Pleasant and Netherton Sports and Social Club have both played eighteen, Mount Pleasant most recent fixture saw them win 5-4 against Netherton Sports and Social Club to give them a two points advanatge over their opponents.

Despite not playing in the latest round of fixtures Gemma Barrett remains top of the West Midlands Ladies Super League with sixty-six points from nineteen games, former leader Evonne Talyor didn’t play either and holds on to the number two spot with sixty-four points from sixteen games. Jacqueline Maiden played and won 3-1 against Chloe Woodman to remian third with sixty-one points from seventeen games with a lead of eight over fourth placed Jackie Trott who played three fixtures and won against Julie Emery (3-0), Jacqui Simmons (3-1) and Chloe Woodman (3-0).

Staffordshire Knot made it nine straight wins in the West Midlands Men’s Super League when they won 3-2 at home against fourth in the league Dog and Partridge. Second in the table Kings Head had a 4-1 home win against Gilbert’s Bar ‘A to reduce the arrears on the leaders to five points. Third placed Dudley Ex Servieman’s Club closed the gap on Kings Head to four points by handing their visitors Junvtion ‘B’ a 5-0 whitewash.

Jason Lowe added 6-1 wins over both Mark Hopkins and Matt Halliday in the Amblecote RBL Premier League to remain top of the table with 156 points from twenty-four games while second placed Nick Fullwell played three games and won 7-0 against Tom Hanson and 5-2 against both Michael Harding and Carl Hipkiss to move to within one point of Lowe but from one more game played. Ian Townsend moved up one place to third following a 5-2 win against Kian Rogers and 6-1 success over Craig Lowin leaving him eight points short of leader Lowe.
