Darts News – A West Midlands Round Up
Northfield Conservative Club began the second half of the season in the Harborne and District League where they left off the first half, with a win. With a maximum from their M.Lloyd and an 8-1 result at home against Avenue Social, Northfield Conservative Club made it fifteen straight wins to give them a perfect score of thirty points and a lead of four over second, third and fourth placed Copper Fox ‘R’, Copper Fox ‘M’ and Northfield Darts Club. Copper Fox ‘R’ had an away fixture against next to bottom of the table Weoley Castle and returned with a very convincing 9-0 result to keep them ahead of their local rivals Copper Fox ‘M’ on average after they won their home tie with Windsor Complex, who are bottom of the league, 8-1. Northfield Darts Club played away against Harborne Social and returned on the right side of the 7-2 result.
This week there were also maximums from A.Beagrie (Kings Norton Ex Serviceman’s Club), M.Collins (Smethwick Cricket Club) and C.Fowler and J.Downer from Copper Fox ‘M’.

The Kings Norton league, like the Harbore and District League also began the second half of their season and leaders Northfield took their undefeated run to fourteen games with a 7-0 success playing away against next to bottom of the table E57. With a perfect twenty-eight points Northfield are four to the good on their nearest rivals Bournebrook who with a maximum from M.Bathurst won 7-0 at Dingle. Copper Fox are third, their twenty-two points six off the top after they added their latest 6-1 home win over Kings Norton Flights to their account, J.Hykin notching a 180 for Copper Fox. Bourneville make up the top four, they are a further two points adrift with twenty points after a 6-1 home win over Stirchley, M.Collins (Bourneville) another player to find the three treble twenties.

The Sheldon and District Winter League have been playing off the semi-finals of their Divisional Cups and in the Premier League games divisional leaders Langley Arrows had a 7-2 win against Banbury Club with Kevin Craythorne hitting a maximum for the winners. Meeting Langley Arrows in the final will be Highwood who had a similar 7-2 win in their fixture with Raven Arrows, John Buckingham recording a ten darts game for Highwood.
Division one leaders Smithswood Social Club had a narrow 5-4 victory over Kingshurst Labour Club who are currently fourth in the division and six points behind their opponents but with a game in hand. Third in the division Yardley Ex Colts were awarded a 9-0 result as their opponents, Langley Flights were unable to field a team.
In the division two games, despite a superb 164 finish from Shirley Misfits John Bown, the 5-4 result went in favour of their opponents and division leaders Moseley Rugby Club. The second of the semis also produced a close 5-4 result with Sheldon Marlborough Flights beating Castle Bromwich WMC to set up a final between the division’s top two teams.

It was also semi-finals week in the South West Birmingham Clubs League:as they played off their last four games of the Percy Hinton Cup. Division two leaders Quarry Lane Club came up with a tremendous 5-4 win over Longbridge United who are placed second in division one, making it a fantastic double win for the second division and setting up and all division two final were Kings Norton Ex Serviceman’s Club who won 6-3 against Northfield Darts Club who are currently third in division one, Kings Norton Ex Serviceman’s Club in the same position in division two.

Highcroft Hotdogs hold on to their three points lead at the top of division one in the Four Oaks and District League after winning 6-3 at Plough and Arrows, second placed Nomads @ Hollyfields won by the same 6-3 margin playing away against Bishop Vesey and although three points adrift, Nomads have a game in hand on Highcroft as do third placed Walmley CSC Flights who after another 6-3 win, this time at home against Old Horns Lions, they are some seven points short of the leaders.
Division one produced two 160 breaks this week and they were provided by Steve Paling (Highcroft Hotdogs) and Adam Cooksey (Walmley CSC Flights).
Drakes Drum top the division two table with twenty-six points from fifteen games after their latest 6-3 home win over Sutton Sports. Second in the division, Erdington Arrows won at fourth placed St Thomas Arrows once again the scoreline was 6-3, leaving Erdington Arrows four points behind Drakes Drum with a game in hand. Rosey Mac’s are third, on the same twenty-two points as Erdington Arrows but from sixteen games, the latest of which saw them win 8-1 at home against St Thomas Misfits.

Leaders of the Stourbridge and District Monday Night league Gornal British Legion were held to a close 4-3 win by their hosts Netherton Conservative Club who are some six places and six points behind them. The win puts the British Legion Club top of the table with eighteen points from their ten games but hot on their heels is Old Liberal Club who after their 6-1 win, playing away against former leaders Ten Arches ‘A’ are second on the same eighteen points as the leaders but from only nine games which they have won all of them and are the only team in the league with a 100% win record. Following their heavy 6-1 defeat Ten Arches ‘A’ drop to third place on the same eighteen points as the two teams above them after completing ten games. Fourth in the league Bird in Hand have sixteen points after handing their visitors Queens Head a 7-0 whitewash, Glasscutters ‘A’ and Gate Hangs Well also won 7-0 in their respective games against Raven ‘B’ and Glassworks.
There were two 160 breaks in the league this week and they came from C.Pickett and C.Moreton, both playing for Old Liberal Club

Allen’s Bar march on in the Hilltop Friendly Tuesday Night League making it seven straight wins and maintaining their undefeated record with a 6-1 home win over Cottage Spring who as a result of the defeat drop one place to fourth, they are now four points behind their hosts. Second in the league Vine ‘A’ also have a perfect record of seven wins, the latest seeing them hand out a 7-0 whitewash to their visitors Waggon and Horses to leave them just one leg of average short of Allen’s Bar. Sandwell’s 4-3 home win over bottom of the table Royal Yeomanry sees them move up one place to third with just two points fewer than the two teams above them.

As Dudley Ex Serviceman’s Club ‘A’ moved into the second half of the fixtures in the Netherton Thursday Night 501 League they continued where they left off the first half with a win. Playing away against Plough and Harrow, with maximums from J.Rollinson and H.Williams plus the 6-3 result, Dudley Ex Serviceman’s Club ‘A’ made it sixteen wins from sixteen games and have a lead of three points (one win) over second placed Old Liberal Club who also had two players hit a 180 in N.Fullwell and J.Batham in their 9-0 win at home against Old Glasshouse. After the top two there is a six point’s gap to third and fourth in the league British Oak and Bulls Head, who in turn won 7-2 and 9-0 against Netherton Sports and Social Club and Netherton Conservative Club, D.Tucker hitting a maximum for Netherton Sports and Social Club.
Other players to score a 180 were J.Wilkinson (Netherton Conservative Club), S.Tipper and B.Ratcliffe (Bulls Head) plus G.Peters (Dudley Ex Serviceman’s Club ‘B’) who not only scored a maximum but also recorded a 141 finish.

Played ten won ten, that’s the record for Wonder in the Rowley Monday Night League, their most recent fixture seeing them win 8-1 at the Vine to keep them two points ahead of second placed Bell who also won 8-1 at home against Rowley Labour Club. Third in the league Tividale FC are four points off the top, they won 7-2 at home against Hawthorns ‘B’. The next three teams in the league table Gate Hangs Well, Plough and Harrow and Snooks are all on fourteen points, six less than the leaders and in turn they had wins over Ex Serviceman’s Club (8-1), Loyal Lodge (7-2) and Spring Meadow (5-4).

The final of the League Cup in the Stourbridge and District Wednesday Night League brought together two of the league’s top three teams with the title being won by league champions Old Liberal Club ‘A’ who had a close 4-3 verdict over Hollybush who finished their campaign place third with eight points fewer than Old Liberal Club ‘A’.

Evonne is playing catch-up and this week played two games in which she won 3-1 against Hannah Davies and 3-0 against Sarah Maybury to give her sixty-four points from sixteen games with three in hand over Gemma Barrett. Reigning champion Jacqueline Maiden moved up one place in the table to third on fifty-three points from fifteen games after adding her latest 3-2 win against Jodie Rowlands and 3-1 win over Claire Hobbs.

Staffordshire Knot made it eight wins from their opening eight games in the West Midlands Men’s Super League when they won 5-0 at home against Gilbert’s Bar ‘B’. In the Amblecote RBL Premier League Jason Lowe beat Craig Lowin 6-1 in his opening game of the night and then rounded off the evening with a narrow 4-3 defeat to Michael Harding, nevertheless Lowe remains top of the table with 142 points from twenty-two games and has a lead of one point over Nick Fullwell who after beating Ian Kelly 6-1 lost to Tom Bissell 4-3 and rounded off his evening with a 7-0 success against Rhys Cox to give him 141 points but from twenty-three games. Tom Bissell is playing catch-up and this week in addition to his win over Nick Fullwell played another three games in which he beat Carl Hipkiss 6-1 and Bayley Owen and Rhys Cox in which he won both 7-0 to see him move up the table to twelfth with ninety points and although some fifty-two short of Lowe he has nine games in hand on him which could net a possible sixty-three points.

Scott Baker took his unbeaten run in division one of the Gilbert’s Bar Monday Night Singles League to ten games with a 7-1 win over Dave Lopex. Baker, with a total of eighty-three points has a fifteen points lead on second in the division Justin Evans, whose latest fixture saw him win 6-2 against Ben Forrest. Third placed Chris Manoila is on the same sixty-eight points as Evans after he beat Steve Lynch 7-1.

Third place Reece Cook Lucas was held to a 4-4 draw by Ben Wright and although seventeen points short of leader Smith has two games in hand.
Olly Garratt not only has a seventeen point’s lead over second placed Michele Pritchard but also a game in hand. Garratt had an 8-0 win over Ffoebi Bower while Pritchard after winning 7-1 against Joanne Meachin and 5-2 against Dave Akers lost her last game to Keogh Bate 6-2

The Wolverhampton Tuesday Night League staged the finals of their Knockout Cup which in the semi-finals Junction ‘B’ beat Hotshots and Gilbert’s Bar ‘A’ won against Corpus Christi ‘A’. The final brought about a win for Gilbert’s Bar ‘A’ with Junction ‘B’ having to be satisfied with the runners-up spot.
