Darts News – A West Midlands Round Up

This coming weekend Warwickshire County Darts Organisation will be playing hosts to table toppers Yorkshire in what will be the home team’s seventh game of the season and their visitors eighth in the Cosmo Darts Premier Division of the UKDA National League. Playing at the Hen Lane District and Social Club, 6 Beacon Rd, Coventry CV6 4DS, Warwickshire will be hoping to make it four consecutive wins and at the same time reduce the arrears on their opponents who are some thirty-four points ahead of them, but obviously from having played one game more than Warwickshire.

In the L-Style Division One of the UKDA National League this weekend, West Midlands have a home tie with Cleveland and the opportunity to add to their 122 points to enable them to climb further up the table from their current seventh position as their visitors are lying ninth with 117 points and they have played one game more than the Midlanders.

Black Country will be taking the long trip to the south-west this coming weekend to take on Somerset at the Coleford Royal British Legion, Memorial Hall, Anchor Road, Coleford, Radstock, Somerset, BA3 5PB in the latest of their fixtures in the L-Style Division One of the UKDA National League. The home team are placed fifth in the league table, one place above the Black Country and their 132 points five more than the away side but from seven games whereas the Black Country have only played six. A win for Black Country could well see them move up the table to a possible third place.

The Kings Norton League have had the League Cup on their fixture card, current league leaders Northfield having a 6-1 win over Bournebrook who are second in the league table with M.Bathurst hitting a maximum for the losers. The other two games played both finished with 7-0 scorelines, Bourneville with a maximum from D.Murray and a super 153 finish from P.Garvey beating bottom of the table Kings Norton Ex Serviceman’s Club while third in the league Copper Fox, accounted for Perfection.

The latest round of the League Cup was played in the Harborne and District League and the biggest win of the round went to Northfield Darts Club who handed out a 7-0 whitewash to their opponents Bourneville with L.Allen hitting a 180 for Northfield. There were 5-2 wins for Weoley Castle WMC and Copper Fox ‘R’ who in turn defeated Thimble Mill and Kings Norton Ex Serviceman’s Club while the other four games finished with narrow 4-3 victories for Windsor Complex, Cock Inn, Northfield Conservative Club and Weoley Castle who beat respective opponents Harborne Social, Lion Bar, Copper Fox ‘M’ and Avenue Social, S.Hopkins hitting a maximum for Windsor Complex.

It was the semi-finals of the Divisional Cups in the South West Birmingham Clubs League, division one leaders Northfield Conservative Club ‘B’ with a 7-2 result accounted for Bournbrook and joining them in the final will be Northfield Darts Club who won 6-3 against West Heath CEM. Top shots for division one came from N.Prosser (Northfield Conservative Club ‘B’) 6×100, L.Fowler (Northfield Darts Club) 4×100 and S.Riddick (West Heath CEM) who scored 6×100 and 2×105.

In the last four games for division two Quarry Lane Club handed out a 9-0 thrashing to Bartley Green FC while Perfection had a narrow 5-4 win against Kings Norton Ex Serviceman’s Club. Hitting the big scores were Kings Norton Ex Serviceman’s Club players N.Kelly 4×100,121,125 and A.Fenton 6×100.

With games now running out in the Sheldon and District Winter League two of the three divisional titles are still up for grabs. In the Premier League, Langley Arrows, with an 8-1 win at Brian’s Flights have replaced Sheldon Marlborough Arrows at the top of the table as Sheldon had a bye this week and they are now level on twenty-four points with Langley with three games to play as opposed to Langley only having two.

The division one title appears to be all sewn-up with Smithswood Social Club adding a 6-3 home win over Hunters Moon to their account to put them on twenty-four points, six clear of Old Salts Darts, Yardley Ex Colts and Kingshurst Labour Club, the latter having four more games to play whereas Old Salts and Yardley, like Smithswood have three games remaining.

A 7-2 win at Sheldon Marlborough Flights puts Moseley Rugby Club top of division two with eighteen points but their second placed opponents are on the same eighteen points with a game in hand, Moseley have two more games to play and Sheldon three.

Top scores this week came from Danny Chiswell (Old Salts Darts), Stephen Shepherd (Kingshurst Labour Club), Craig Stansfield (Lyndon Old Boys) and Thomas Attwood (Castle Bromwich WMC) who all hit a maximum.

Cup quarter-finals week in the Four Oaks and District League, first the Brian Goodman Cup in which division one leaders Highcroft Hotdogs had a 6-3 win over Erdington Arrows who are placed second in division two. Second in division one Nomads @ Hollyfields suffered a 5-4 defeat at the hands of the Bishop Vesey team who are placed mid-table in the same division. There were maximums for both teams, Tony Colley for Nomads and Dave Walton for Vesey. Walmley CSC Flights had two maximums from Adam Cooksey and Jamie Meredith in their 7-2 win over Deer’s Leap. Also progressing to the last four were Old Oscott Arrows who won 6-3 against Red Lion.

Biggest win in the last eight games of the Ken Rust Cup were Plough and Arrows who beat Sutton Sharks 7-2, Old Horns Lions not far behind with their 6-3 win over Beggars Bush. Charley’s Flights and Heartlands had 5-4 wins in turn against Rosey Mac’s and Rise Club.

In the semi-finals of the Hilltop Friendly Tuesday Night League’s Black Country Windscreens Shield, Sow and Pigs opened up a 4-1 winning lead over Vine ‘A’, the final score 4-3, while the game between Three Horseshoes and Allen’s Bar went to a decider and then in the deciding game the score went to 1-1 before C.Dabbs won the very last leg to give Three Horseshoes the 4-3 victory.

The final of the Stourbridge and District Wednesday Night League’s Shadow Cup Final, league runners-up Swan beat fifth placed Plough 5-2.

A 5-2 win at Seven Stars sees Ten Arches ‘A’ remain top of the table in the Stourbridge and District Monday Night League with a 100% win record from their opening nine games. The leaders have a two points advantage over second and third placed Gornal British Legion and Old Liberal Club, the British Legion handing their hosts Queens Head a 7-0 whitewash while Old Liberal Club had the same result at home against Glassworks to make it eight wins from their eight games. Ten Arches ‘A’ and Old Liberal Club are the only two undefeated teams in the league. Fourth in the league Bird in Hand had a 5-2 win at Raven ‘A’ to take their points tally to fourteen, four short of the leaders.

Glasscutters ‘B’ and Glassworks are the only two teams still to record a win for their first points of the season.

Undefeated Wonder took their winning run to nine games in the Rowley Monday Night League when they won 8-1 at home against Rowley Bar and Grill with M.Tedstone recording a nine darts game for the winners. Reigning champions Bell were also 8-1 winners as they beat their hosts Huntingtree to keep within two points of Wonder. A 7-2 win at Loyal Lodge sees Tividale FC hold on to third place with fourteen points and after the top three come four teams all on twelve points, Gate Hangs Well, Plough and Harrow, Snooks and Rowley Labour Club.

Despite a 7-2 home defeat to Gate Hangs Well, the home side, Rowley Labour Club had their W.Cairnes chalk up not one but two 160 breaks. T.Jones (Tividale Sports) scored a 180.

A 6-3 win at Rose and Crown ‘B’ has seen Dudley Ex Serviceman’s Club ‘A’ move another step closer to winning the Brierley Hill Monday Night League title as their sixty-six points are ten more than the chasing pack of three teams Bridge, Maverick and Old Bush. Bridge have only played thirty-four games compared to the leaders thirty-six, their latest fixture with Roebuck ‘B’ postponed while third in the league Maverick had a 6-3 win at High Acres ‘B’ and Old Bush, who have played thirty-five games won their home tie with Pensnett Liberal Club ‘A’ 5-4.

Mount Pleasant had a close 5-4 home success over Jolly Crispin while Netherton Sports and Social Club were 6-3 winners at Meadow Lark. Fourth in the table Gornal British Legion have only played fourteen games, two fewer than the two teams above them and one less than the leaders, their latest fixture saw them hand out a 9-0 thrashing to Triangle to give them a total of twenty-four points.

Evonne Taylor didn’t play in the latest round of fixtures in the West Midlands Ladies Super League and as a result loses pole position and drops to second place with fifty-six points from fourteen games. Taking over at the top of the table is Gemma Barrett who after her 3-1 win over Sarah Maybury she has fifty-eight points from seventeen games. Sarah Barrett moves up two places to third with forty-six points from fifteen games despite her opening 3-2 defeat to Jackie Trott as she recovered to beat Sam Rowley 3-2. Jacqueline Maiden holds on to fourth place with a 3-2 win over Jackie Trott giving her forty-five points from thirteen games.

Staffordshire Knot made it seven wins from seven games in the West Midlands Men’s Super League when they won their home game with Gate Inn 5-0. The win takes the leaders to thirty-one points with a lead of five over their nearest rivals Kings Head who won 4-1 at home against Junction ‘A’. Dog and Partridge are third, they have a game in hand on the two teams above them, their 4-1 home win over Landywood taking them up to twenty-two points.

At the other end of the table Junction ‘B’ lost 4-1 at Gilbert’s Bar ‘B’ and are the only team in the league without a win so far.

The Wolverhampton Tuesday Night League played the second leg of the quarter-finals of their Knockout Cup and making their way into the semi-finals with aggregate wins are Gilbert’s Bar ‘A’, who had a 10-4 win over Gilbert’s Bar ‘B, Corpus Christi ‘A’ with a 10-3 win over Milestone, Hotshots who accounted for Golden Lion with a 9-5 victory and Junction ‘B’ who beat their local rivals Junction ‘C’ 11-3.
