Lancashire are the current reigning champions of the Cosmo Darts Premier Division in the UKDA National League, wining the top division title last season and losing just one game at home to Yorkshire 24-12 and drawing 18-18 away to Lincolnshire but this season is a very different Lancashire as in their seven games so far they have won three, lost three and drawn one, they have lost home games against Warwickshire (19-17), and Hertfordshire (20-16), away to Hampshire (19.17) and were held to a draw playing away against Essex. Lancashire’s current position in the league table is second but they trail leaders Yorkshire by some eighteen points, Yorkshire holding on to pole position with a 20-16 home win over Dorset. Following their 19-17 defeat at London, Cornwall drop one place in the table to third with 142 points, nineteen short of Yorkshire.

Topping the men’s ‘A’ averages with a super 32.32 and straight 4-0 win over Dorset’s Steve Earley was Yorkshire’s Carl Wilkinson while the men’s ‘B’ top average was 30.77 achieved by Essex man Aaron Gill in his 4-2 win over Lancashire’s Simon Wilkinson. The ladies ‘A’ top average went to Essex player Jade Gofford who in her 3-1 win over Lancashire’s Doreen Fitton average 24-76. The best average for the ladies ‘B’ was 21-78 and went to Lancashire’s Gina Jones who won 3-0 against Karen Williams (Essex).

As a result of them having a bye, Suffolk have lost pole position in the Andy Wheeler Fisheries Championship Division and drop to fourth with 135 points. Taking over at the top of the division is Cambridgeshire who moved up from third place to top with a 24-12 home win over bottom of the table Cheshire. Humberside, hold on to the number two spot after they were held to an 18-18 home draw by Kent who are, just three places off the foot of the table. Humberside’s 148 points are just two more than third placed Sussex who after their 26-10 home win over Gwent are four points behind leaders Cambridgeshire but have a game in hand on both the teams above them. Despite their 21-15 home win over Derbyshire, Staffordshire remain next to bottom of the table with eighty-seven points, fifteen to the good on bottom placed Cheshire who have a game in hand on them.

Caven Phillips 31.60 average and 4-1 win over Gwent’s Harry Williams was enough for him to top the Championship men’s ‘A’ averages while the men’s B’ award went to Sussex team mate Brad O’Connor who won 4-0 against Geraint Harbon (Gwent) with a 30.36 average. Northamptonshire’s Rebecca Rose was the top player in the ladies ‘A’ games, a superb 25.05 average in her 3-0 win over Oxfordshire’s Sue Burns. Cheshire’s Bev Martin topped the ladies ‘B’ averages, her 22.77 average and 3-0 win over Cambridgeshire’s Carol Bareham earning her the accolade.

Prior to the latest fixtures, West Midands topped the L-Style Division One table but after their bye they dropped down to seventh place with 122 points from six games with a game in hand on three of the six teams above them. Moving up into pole position is Clwyd who were formerly second in the division their 20-16 away against Black Country has taken them to a total of 145 points from seven games. Another former leading team, Middlesex won 23-13 away to Cleveland to put them on 142 points from six games. Third in the division Merseyside had a 26-10 home win over Buckinghamshire to leave them on 134 points and although eleven short of Clwyd they like Middlesex, have a game in hand on the leaders.

Leicestershire’s Andrew Hibbert averaged 33.13 and won 4-1 against Somerset’s Dean Baker to top the men’s ‘A’ average with Hibbert’s team mate Ricky Sudale taking the men’s ‘B’ award for his 29.04 average and 4-0 success over Jason Woodyard (Somerset). Somerset’s Karen Little won 3-2 against Leicestershire’s Lauren Hall, her 24.02 average the top one for the ladies ‘A’ matches. Cleveland’s Claire Stamper had a 3-1 win against Sindy Stiles (Middlesex), her 20.58 average earning her the ladies ‘B’ match award.

No change in the to four places in division two, Worcestershire continuing to dominate the division after adding a 20-16 win away to Wiltshire to take their points tally to 137 and giving them a lead of six points over second placed Salopian who in their home tie with fourth placed Tyne and Wear were held to an 18-18 draw. A 21-15 home win over Cumbria has taken County Durham to within two points of Salopian and increased their lead on Tyne and Wear to six points. Bottom placed Gwynedd had a notable 18-18 home draw with Northumberland who are four places above them in the table and have fifteen points more than them and it was Gwynedd’s Kevin Ducklin who had the top men’s ‘A’ average as he chalked up a 31.79 average in his 4-1 win over Northumberland’s Oliver Haughan.

The men’s ‘B’ award went to County Durham’s Alan Bell who beat Cumbria’s Adam Jenkinson 4-0 with a 30.36 average. Salopian’s Steph Clarke topped the ladies ‘A’ averages, a superb 25.91 in her straight 3-0 win over Tyne and Wear’s Jasmine Rusworth. Nottinghamshire’s Maggie Bamford’s 19.06 average and 3-1 win against Surrey’s Emma Atkins was enough to earn her the ladies ‘B’ award.

Division three leaders Norfolk had a resounding 30-6 home win over next to bottom of the division Montgomery and Radnor to give them a huge twenty-eight point’s lead on second placed West of England who have moved up from third to second in the table following their 27-9 home win over bottom placed Isle of Wight. Breconshire lost their number two spot after they went down 23-13 at Shropshire and drop to sixth place on 119 points while their hosts move up two places to fourth with 129 points, just one short of third placed Gloucestershire who had a similar 23-13 home win against Pembrokeshire.

Middle of the table Wirral were another team to win 23-13 as they accounted for Bedfordshire, and it was Wirral who cleaned up with all four of the top averages!!, An amazing feat as their Terry Clancy took the men’s ‘A’ award for his 4-1 win and 31.23 average against Bedfordshire’s Philip Price, Mark Patmore taking the men’s ‘B’ award with a 29.39 average and similar 4-1win over Lee White, Kim Holden wrapped up the ladies ‘A’ award for her 21.47 average and 3-0 victory against Fran Bent and to round off the four awards, Pam Courts beat Jenny Bozier 3-0 with a 19.52 average.

Warwickshire County Darts Organisation began their sixth game of the season in the Cosmo Darts Premier Division of the UKDA National League seventh in the table with 100 points, while their hosts Glamorgan were sixth with 105 points from six games.

Playing at the Penydarren Social Club, Alexandra Road, Merthyr, CF47 9AF the ladies ‘B’ got the weekend underway and it was Warwickshire who won the opener when Denise Keyte handed out a straight 3-0 defeat to Jen Taylor. The lead was short lived as Glamorgan’s Jo Pugh won 3-1 against Claire Greenwood and Michelle Jones beat Caroline Pike 3-2. Kacie O’Connor (Warwickshire) went one down to Paula Randall but went on to win 3-1 and level the score at two each. With a further 3-1 win for Courtney Hine over Sophie Price the away side were within an ace of victory. That victory came in the final game as Nina Bolt not only won 3-0 against Sarah Teesdale but clinched the match award for her 15.34 average. The final score 4-2 to Warwickshire.

The men’s ‘B’’ had a fantastic start racing into an unassailable 6-0 lead with a clean-sweep of the first half’s six games. Beginning the six wins sequence was Mark Strong with a 4-2 win over Graham Harrison. Karl Reynolds was taken to a deciding leg by Gavin Sterio but sealed his 4-3 win in the seventh leg in 21 darts. A straight 4-0 win for Jnr Joyce over David Neads made it 3-0, Mark Carter adding to that scoreline with his 4-3 win against Lee O’Neill. Taking the score to 5-0 was Ryan Jackson who in his clean 4-0 win against Colin Powell recorded a super 30.36 average which at the end of the day earned him the man of the match award, Going into the break Taylor McGuckian came from 1-0 and 2-1 down to Craig Lewis to go on to win 4-2.

As the second half got underway the home side got their first stripe on the board when Richard Jones, after trailing 3-2 to William Naylor went on to win 4-3.The all-important seventh win was added to Warwickshire’s tally as early as the eighth game when Mark Martin, after losing the first leg to Martyn Fowler wnet on to win 4-1.Adam Hancock opened up 1-0 and 3-2 leads against Hywell Manuel but it was Manuel who got the 4-3 result to double Glamorgan’s number of winners to two. The deficit was reduced even further in the tenth game when Finley Pember won 4-2 against Lloyd Jackson. David Hill (Warwickshire) had a 4-1 win over Keiron Carter in the penultimate encounter and with a 4-0 win for Glamorgan’s Liam Wigley against Lee Miller in the last game of the day the final score was 8-4 to Warwickshire’s men’s ‘B’.

Going into Sunday’s ‘A’ games Warwickshire were holding a 12-6 lead. It was the home side that got the first winner as their Rhian O’Sullivan won 3-1 against Kirsty Hinchliffe. Wendy Adams restored parity as she, with a similar 3-1 result accounted for Sandra Quinn. The hosts went ahead again in the third when Claire Crocombe beat Donna Pinch 3-2 after the away player had taken a 2-1 lead. Natalie Gilbert after going 1-0 and 2-1 up against Donna Thomas suffered a rare 3-2 defeat to put Glamorgan within an ace of victory, and the home team looked all set to achieve that victory when Sue Hall went two up against Marian Conway, but it was not to be as Conway stuck to her task and went on to win 3-2 to leave the result all hinging on the final game. Last on for Warwickshire was Hannah Meek and for Glamorgan Sue Watson. Meek won the first leg but then went 2-1 down as Watson won the next two legs. Hannah Meek levelled in the fourth and with a win in the fifth was the 3-2 winner and with a 20.63 average she also won the lady of the match award. With the result ending at 3-3 Warwickshire still had their six games overall lead and now only required four winners from the men’s ‘A’ to secure a win for the weekend’s fixture.

The first five games of the men’s ‘A’ match all went with the first throw advantage with Danny Lauby, Noel Grant and Sam Whittaker giving Warwickshire a three times lead with James Richards and Richie Edwards replying for Glamorgan. Lauby was pegged back to level terms three times by Dan Thompson before securing his 4-3 win, James Richards cancelling out the win when he defeated Gareth Braham 4-2. Taking the score to 2-1 was Noel Grant who had a 4-3 win over Dean Reynolds, only to see the score levelled for a second time when Richie Edwards beat Jack Wareing 4-3. Warwickshire went 3-2 up when Sam Whittaker added his 4-1 result over John Cook to their account and with a further 4-2 success for Wayne Mynard against Neil Parry, the visitors were 4-2 up at the halfway stage and were now overall winners with a lead of 19-11.

The second half began well for Warwickshire as Jamie Hughes won 4-3 against Liam Meek, Nigel Heydon, after going 2-0 down won 4-2 against Dan Beynon, Matty Washbrooke had a straight 4-0 win over Tim Jones and Kevin Dowling beat Mark Challenger 4-3. The last game of the weekend went to the home team as their Lee Winterburn won 4-1 against Martin Tonks to give a final score of 9-3 to Warwickshire.

The overall result was 24-12 to Warwickshire to see them move up two places in the table to fifth with 127 points and although some sixteen points short of second placed Lancashire, they have a game in hand on three of the four teams above them.

Black Country brought their home fixture with Clwyd forward by one week. It was never going to be an easy fixture as Clwyd were second in the division with 122 points from six games and Black Country fifth with 111 points from five games, but it was one that should the home side win it would lift them up the table.

The ladies ‘B’ had a somewhat turbulent time as Amy-Leigh Tolley was their sole winner as she accounted for Rachael Simpson in the fourth game with a 3-1 result and being as she was the only winner, took the match award for her 14.94 average. Clwyd went 3-0 up with wins from Alex Foulds, Neeley Street and Charlie Walker-Woods who in turn defeated Sarah-Jane Parker (3-2), Stella Sims (3-2) and Kirsty Shaughnessy (3-0). The last two games also went to Clwyd as Del Stapley won 3-2 against Lacey Hughes and rounding off their 5-1 win was Nat Davey who won 3-0 against Mckenzie Raine Thomas.

The men’s ‘B’ went one up when Mark Jones beat Terry Bagby 4-3 but then trailed 2-1 as Clwyd’s Phil Jones and Paul Gillam won 4-2 and 4-1 against Neil Steventon and Rich Bowen. Levelling the score at 2-2 was Kieron Bridgwater who handed out a 4-0 defeat to his Clwyd counterpart Chris Moore. For a second time Black Country took the lead when in the fifth game Al Smith got the 4-3 edge on Pete Watkins, but by the midway point it was level-pegging as Paul Alley added Clwyd’s third win when he won 4-2 against Mark Rollinson.

The second half was a much better half for the hosts as they won five of the six games, Dave Edwards began the string of wins when he won 4-1 against Danny Butler, man of the match Tom Bissell (28.66) had a similar 4-1 win against Nick Hailes and was followed by Ian Townsend and Rob Smith who also won 4-1 against respective opponents Adam Paxton and Gary Williams to put Black Country into a winning 7-3 lead. Sam Bissell increased that lead to 8-3 with his 4-3 win against Steven Probert and with Clwyd’s Craig Billingsley winning the last game of the day against Wayne Hobday 4-2, the result was an 8-4 victory for Black Country.

It was the visitors who got the better start to the ladies ‘A’ match as they went 2-0 up with wins from Jackie Brighton and Rachel Kingdon who in turn beat Tammy Chance 3-2 and Abbey Hunt 3-0. Doreen Hunt reduced the arrears with her 3-2 win over Nia Price, only to see Clwyd move into an unbeatable 3-2 lead when Leanne Topper won 3-0 against Maxine Prosser. A lady of the match performance from Chez Allcock kept Black Country in the game, her straight 3-0 win over Judith Williams giving her a 20.59 average and with a further 3-2 win from Heather Wright against Bethan Jones the game finished all-square at 3-3.

With the running score now standing at 12-12, the overall result depended on the outcome of the men’s ‘A’ game. Clwyd were first out of the blocks with a straight 4-0 win from Cole Davey over Michael Powell. Trev Brennan cancelled out the away tam’s early lead when he beat Luke Smith 4-2 but the remainder of the half all went to Clwyd as Adam Paxton won 4-1 against Alex Howells, Mark Leach beat Harry Williams 4-3, Jon Darlington had a 4-1 success against Martin Greenwood and taking Clwyd into a 5-1 lead at the halfway stage was David Davies who won 4-2 against Dan Homer.

Clwyd went further ahead as the second session got underway, Bradley Roberts accounting for Paul Wells with a 4-1 result. In division three Shropshire had a home fixture with Breconshire and at the start of the day Shropshire were sixth in the division with 103 points and their visitors second on 106 points, so not much between the two teams but a defeat for either would do them, no favours whatsoever.

Although Breconshire got the first winner in the ladies ‘B’ game when Louise Davies won 3-2 against Tanya Dolman, the lead was short lived as the hosts then stormed into an unassailable 3-1 lead with wins from, lady of the match Kelly Millington who won 3-1 against Louisa Fox with a 14.03 average, Deana Sheldon handed out a 3-0 defeat to Hayley Mathews and Lauren Kempson beat Carol Bufton 3-2. The first game of the men’s ‘B’ match went to Breconshire as Phillip Evans won 4-0 against Paul Penfold, however that was the only setback of the first half as the remaining five games all went to Shropshire. Joy Toghill was Breconshire’s third winner she added her 3-2 success against Sophia Ward to their tally before last on Nicola Ball won with a similar 3-2 result against Helen Kerry to end the game all-square at 3-3.

Shropshire men’s ‘A’ now required four winners to give an overall victory for the weekend and that requirement was halved in the opening two games as Chris Fox won 4-3 against Wayne Glover and Andy Vellender beat Ian Evans 4-2. Two 4-3 wins from Stuart Hossack and Dale Hughes against, in turn Andre Knox and Rob Pierce levelled the game at two each bit with the last two games of the half going to the hosts their victory for the weekend was achieved. Ben Johnson and Andrew Jervis closed the half with 4-1 wins over their respective opponents Nathan Perry and Bryan Flew to take the score to 4-2 to Shropshire at the end of the first half.

Sam Aitkens made it 5-2 as he began the second session, beating Craig Dobbins 4-2 and although Anthony Bennett with a 4-0 win over Mark Zambra made it 5-3, wins from Kevin Harris, 4-3 against Mark Layton, Bret Cooper, who won 4-0 against Chris Carey and Richard Parker whose 4-0 win against Marcus Jones earned him the match award for his 27.83 average took Shropshire’s lead to 8-3.
