Darts News – A West Midlands Round Up

This coming weekend Warwickshire County Darts Organisation will be playing their sixth game of the season in the Cosmo Darts Premier Division of the UKDA National League, an away game against Glamorgan at the Penydarren Social Club, Alexandra Road, Merthyr, CF47 9AF. Going into the fixture Warwickshire are lying seventh in the table with 100 points from five games while their hosts are sixth with 105 points from six games, so a win for Warwickshire would definitely see them move up the table.

In the L-Style Division One of the UKDA National League West Midlands and Black Country played off their rearranged game one fixture. Prior to the fixture the home team, West Midlands, were fourth in the division with 107 points and Black Country, next to bottom of the table with 87 points, both teams requiring points to move up the table, West Midlands having played five games and Black Country only having played four.

Saturday’s ‘B’ games saw West Midlands win the ladies ‘B’ encounter 4-2 with Kat McLean their top player with a 20.04 average and 3-0 win over Sarah-Jane Parker, while Black Country’s top player was Paige Robbins who won 3-1 against Hannah Davies. The men’s ‘B’ finished all-square at 6-6 with Daniel Hands (27.97) the hosts top player and Tom Bissell (30.68) taking the same accolade for Black Country.

With a lead of 10-8 for the home side, Sunday’s ladies ‘A’ game finished all-square at 3-3 with the match awards going to Gemma Barrett (West Midlands) who beat Heather Wright 3-0 with an 18.33 average and for the Black Country it was Tammy Chance for her 3-0 win over Kat McLean and 16.70 average. With the score now standing at 13-11 to West Midlands the outcome rested on the result of the men’s ‘A’ game which produced a huge 10-2 win for Black Country to give them an overall 21-15 victory for the weekend. Match awards for the men’s ‘A’ went to Gavin Baker (West Midlands) who averaged 28.24 and for Black Country it was  Trev Bennan who had a superb 33.54 average.

Despite the defeat West Midlands went to the top of the table with the same 122 as second placed Clwyd while Black Country moved up five places in the table to fifth with 111 points with a game in hand on three of the four teams above them.

In what was their twelfth game of the season in the Harborne and District League, leader’s Northfield Conservative Club won 8-1 playing away against Thimble Mill to put them two points ahead of second placed Copper Fox ‘R’ who have a game in hand on the leader’s. Copper Fox ‘M’ moved up one place to third following their 8-1 win at Kings Norton Ex Serviceman’s Club, they are on twenty points as are fourth placed Northfield Darts Club who have played eleven games, one fewer than Copper Fox ‘M’.

No change in the top four places in the Premier League of the Sheldon and District Winter League despite leader’s Sheldon Marlborough Arrows losing 7-2 playing away against second placed Langley Arrows, who with a maximum from Simon Power have reduced the deficit on the top team to just two points. Third in the top division, Raven Arrows won 6-3 at Banbury Club to leave them four points behind Langley Arrows but with a game in hand.

Smithswood Social Club’s 6-3 win at Iron Horse Rebels sees them hold on to pole position in division one with twenty points, four more than second and third placed Old Salts Darts and Yardley Ex Colts who in turn won 7-2 against Trident Spears and Hunters Moon, Lewis Franklin notching a maximum for Smithswood.

Leaders of division two, Sheldon Marlborough Flights added a 7-2 home win over Langley Pints to give them a total of sixteen points from their ten games and a lead of two, plus a game in hand on their nearest rivals Moseley Rugby Club who won their home game against Castle Bromwich WMC 6-3. Third and fourth placed Lyndon Old Boys and Digby are both on ten points and have both only played eight games.

It was second round cup week in the Four Oaks and District League, first the Coronation Cup in which Bishop Vesey, who are currently sixth in division one, beat their divisional leader’s Highcroft Hotdogs 9-6. Division two leaders, Drakes Drum had a convincing 11-4 win over their division one opponents Old Oscott Arrows while in the all division one game, Walmley CSC Flights won by the same 11-4 margin against Plough and Arrows. The all division two fixture between Erdington Arrows and Rosey Mac’s saw the former win 14-1,

In the second round of the Norman Day Cup, division one side Red Lion beat Sutton Sharks from division two 11-4. Nomads @ Hollyfields beat their fellow division one side Heartlands 10-5 and also progressing into the next round are Deer’s Leap and Sutton Sports, both from division two, they in turn won against St Thomas Arrows (9-6) and Rosey Mac’s Bar (8-7), who were also both from division two.

Game number eight in division one of the South West Birmingham Clubs League produced no changes whatsoever in the divisional placing’s with Northfield Conservative Club ‘B’ holding on to the top spot but only on average after their 6-2 win at Bournbrook as second placed Northfield Darts Club are on the same twelve points following their 5-3 success at home over West Heath CEM. Longbridge United with a 160 break from M.Lloyd are third, they won 6-2 at home against Stirchley United.

Quarry Club have a four points lead at the top of division two, their latest fixture seeing them win 7-1 at home against Moseley All Services Club to give them a total of thirteen points. Second and third placed Perfection and Kings Norton Ex Serviceman’s Club are both on nine points, Perfection winning 6-2 at home against E57 and the Ex Serviceman’s Club having a little closer 5-3 win at Northfield Conservative Club ‘A’.

Just the one change in the top five places in the Kings Norton League, which saw Bourneville, after beating Greenlands 5-2 leap-frog them in the table and take over in fourth place with Greenlands dropping to fifth their fourteen points two fewer than their Bourneville’s. Leaders Northfield had a 6-1 win at Perfection to make it eleven straight wins which gives them a two points advantage over second in the league Bournebrook who had a 4-3 win at Toby Jug, however Bournebrook have played twelve games which is one more than Northfield and one more than third placed Copper Fox who had a 6-1 home win over Dingle.

Only two of the nineteen starters in the Stourbridge and District Monday Night League are able to boast a 100% win record and they are leaders Ten Arches ‘A’ and fourth placed Old Liberal Club. Ten Arches ‘A’ handed out a 7-0 whitewash to their visitors Raven ‘A’ to keep them two points to the good on the chasing four teams, Gornal British Legion, Glasscutters ‘A’, Old Liberal Club and Bird in Hand. Gornal British Legion were also 7-0 winners playing at home against Gigmill, Glasscutters ‘A’ had a narrows 4-3 win at Five Ways, while Old Liberal Club were another team to win 7-0 as they accounted for their hosts Glasscutters ‘B’, this being only the fifth game for Old Liberal Club whereas the teams above them have played six. Bird in Hand won their home tie with Ashwood 4-3.

The Sedgley and Gornal Tuesday Night League have completed their mini-leagues for the John Walters Trophy and winning league ‘A’ are  New Inn 2 who had a bye in the last round of fixtures but finished with ten points, two more than runners-up Mount Pleasant who won their final game at home against Red Cow 7-2.

Jolly Crispin ended their fixtures in league ‘B’ with a 6-3 win at Meadow Lark to see them finish top of the table with eight points, two more than second and third placed New Inn and Meadow Lark, New Inn having a bye in the last round of fixtures.

Eighteen teams began the Rowley Monday Night League’s new season and after only five games there are just two that remain undefeated and they are leaders Wonder, who added a further 8-1 win over at Tividale Sports to their tally to keep them ahead on average over second placed and reigning champions Bell won 6-3 at Whiteheath Tavern. After the leading duo there are four teams all on eight points and they are Gate Hangs Well, Rowley Labour Club, Tividale FC and Snooks.

There were 180’s from T.Whitehouse (Spring Meadow) and S.Slim (Plough and Harrow), the two teams playing each other with the 7-2 result going to Plough and Harrow.

On the league front Dudley Ex Serviceman’s Club ‘A’ took their undefeated run to twelve games with a 7-2 win at Spring Meadow Social to keep them three points ahead of second placed Old Liberal Club after they won 7-2 at Townsend Social Club.

Dudley Ex Serviceman’s Club ‘A’ made it 31 wins from 33 games in the Brierley Hill Monday Night League when they won their home tie with Starving Rascal 8-1. The win sees the leaders open up a huge ten points advanatge over Bridge who have replaced Maverick in the number two spot after beating them 7-2. Bridge, Maverick and Old Bush are all on 52 points with Bridge having played one game fewer than the leaders as have Old Bush who had a close 5-4 win at Mount Pleasant.

The Stourbridge and District Wednesday Night League played off the semi-finals of their 3 A-Side Knockout in which league leaders Old Liberal Club ‘A’ had a  narrow 3-2 win over Swan who are currently second in the league. The second semi saw Ashwood win 3-0 against Fox Inn (Lye).

Only average separates the top three teams in the Hilltop Friendly Tuesday Night League and just two points the difference between the top three and the next three, the top trio having won all four games and the following three having won three. Cottage Spring, head the league table by one leg of average after they won 6-1 at home against Horseley Tavern ‘B’ and second placed Allen’s Bar won 4-3 at Tamebridge. Third placed Vine ‘A’ are a further two legs behind after their 5-2 win at Horseley Tavern ‘A’. The three chasing teams are Coach and Horses, Waggon and Horses and Sow and Pigs.

Although she didn’t play in the latest round of fixtures in the West Midlands Ladies Super League, Evonne Taylor remains top of the table with 44 points from 11 games. Staffordshire Knot consolidated their pole position in the West Midlands Men’s Super League with a 4-1 home win over Hotshots to give them a total of 17 points. Second placed Kings Head had a close 3-2 home win over third in the league Dog and Partridge to leave them two points off the top and one ahead of the opponents and fourth placed Landywood who had a clean-sweep, 5-0 home win over Junction ‘B’.

Simon Mountford, leader of division one in the Gilbert’s Bar Monday Night Singles League, was held to a 4-4 draw by Shane Passey in his seventh game, reigning champion Scott Baker closing in on Mountford with a 5-3 win over Ben Johnson to leave him six points behind Mountford with a game in hand.

In division two Michael Smith leads the field with 55 points after beating Artur Lubkowski 6-2. Second in the division Reece Cook Lucas didn’t play this week and although three points behind Smith, he has a game in hand.

Olly Garratt is way out in front in division three, taking his points tally to 62 with an 8-0 win over Eddie Gripton to put him eleven points to the good on his nearest rival Jade Wellings who won her game against Tanya Dolman 5-3.

With a 7-0 win over Martyn Harper followed by a 4-3 success against Jake Shipley, Cayden Smith is placed second with 74 points but from eleven games. Paul Wells in third in the league, he has played 12 games and is on the same 74 points as Smith after he lost 4-3 to Ian Townsend and then recovered to beat Grant Jackson 6-1.

In both the singles and doubles leagues in the Wolverhampton Tuesday Night league it’s the same two teams who are battling it out for honours. Junction ‘B’ lead both leagues with Hotshots second. In the singles league Junction ‘B’ won their home tie with Gilbert’s Bar ‘B’ 5-2 to put them on 60 points, four more than Hotshots after they lost 4-3 at Gilbert’s Bar ‘A’.

In the doubles league Junction ‘B’ and Hotshots both lost, the former going down 2-1 against Gilbert’s Bar ‘B’ and the latter losing 3-0 to Gilbert’s Bar ‘A’.
