Following their “Battle of the Roses” win away to Yorkshire in the Cosmo Darts Premier Division of the UKDA National League, Lancashire then, in their most recent fixture lost 23-16 at home to Hertfordshire who prior to the game were next to bottom of the division with fifty-nine points but only having played three fixtures compared to their hosts who were placed second with 105 points from five games. The defeat has seen Lancashire drop one place in the table to third with 121 points, trailing leaders Yorkshire by some seventeen points after they won 23-13 at home against Lincolnshire. Taking over the number two spot after their 19-17 home win against Essex is Cornwall who are on 125 points, Essex staying bottom of the division with seventy-one points but they have only played four fixtures.
In their 21-15 home win over Glamorgan, Dorset took three of the top averages, Robbie Martin taking the men’s ‘A’ award for his 4-1 win over Glamorgan’s Liam Meek and 32.62 average while the men’s ‘B’ top average was 32.12 achieved by Dan Perry who won 4-1 against Lee O’Neill. Cathy Campbell topped the ladies ‘B’ averages with her 22.10 average in a straight 3-0 win against Sophie Price, the ladies ‘A’ award going to Hertfordshire’s Louise Pearson who averaged 24.54 in her 3-1 win over Lancashire’s Jo Clements, Glamorgan’s Eve Watson narrowly missing out with her 24.32 average and 3-2 win over Dorset’s Sam Kirton.
In the Andy Wheeler Fisheries Championship Division Suffolk hold on to pole position but have had their lead reduced from sixteen points to six after they were held to an 18-18 draw at Kent and second placed Humberside won 26-10 at Cheshire, Kent just two places off the foot of the table. Cambridgeshire remain third in the division and although they were level on points with Humberside prior to the latest games they now trail them by six points as they were 20-16 winners at Gwent. Cheshire’s defeat leaves them bottom of the table with sixty points but they have at least one game in hand on all of the teams above them.
Topping the average in the Championship were for the men’s ‘A’ Sean Holley who with a 32.86 average beat Derbyshire’s Mark Thomson 4-2. The men’s ‘B’ top average was 30.83 achieved by Kent’s Marc Lee who won 4-0 against Suffolk’s Lee Morling. For the ladies Derbyshire’s Rachel Ayres topped the charts with a 25.88 average and 3-1 win over Oxfordshire’s Sue Burns while in the ladies ‘B’ games it was Gwent’s Yazmine Ruck-Havard who won 3-0 and averaged 20.88 against Cambridgeshire’s Wendy Hayes.
Middlesex have ousted from their number one spot in the L-Style Division One after suffering a 20-16 home defeat by West Midlands who previous to the fixture were placed seventh with eighty-four points from four games while their hosts were top of the table with one hundred points from the same number of games. Replacing Middlesex in pole position is Clwyd who move up from second place after adding their latest 19-17 home win over Leicestershire. With 122 points Clwyd have a three points lead on their nearest rivals Somerset whose 24-12 home win over Merseyside saw them increase their points tally to 119 giving them a three points lead on Middlesex who are now placed third but with a game in hand on the two teams above them. West Midlands win has seen them move up three places in the table to fourth now with 107 points from five games. It gets no better for Buckinghamshire, their 20-16 home defeat at the hands of the Berkshire squad seeing them remain at the bottom of the table with seventy-eight points, fourteen from safety.
A superb 34.55 average and straight 4-0 win over Darren Williams (West Midlands) saw Cam Crabtree (Middlesex) top the men’s ‘A’ averages while the best men’s ‘B’ average was 31.83 which was recorded by Somerset’s Justin Hood in his 4-2 win against Merseyside’s Ben Jones. Clwyd’s Jackie Brighton topped the ladies ‘A’ averages with her 23.12 average in a 3-0 win over Leicestershire’s Shannon Reeve while Cleveland’s Claire Stamper took the ladies ‘B’ award for her 3-0 success against Devon’s Lisa White giving her a 21.78 average.
The top three places in the division two table are as-you-were with Worcestershire continuing to lead the field and doubling their advantage to two points over second placed Salopian after winning 20-16 at home against Nottinghamshire while Salopian had a closer 19-17 success at Surrey. County Durham makes up the top three, their 19-17 defeat at Northumberland leaving them nine points behind the leaders. At the other end of the table Gwynedd lost 23-13 at Tyne and Wear to leave them bottom of the table and fourteen points from safety.
Northumberland’s Ryan Branley had a straight 4-0 win over his namesake Ryan Anderson (County Durham), his 31.81 average seeing him top the men’s ‘A’ charts while the ‘B’ award went to Salopian’s Kacey Jones who in his men’s ‘B’ game averaged 30.36 and won 4-0 against Surrey’s George Munt. Tyne and Wear’s Angela Kirkwood won 3-0 against Gwynedd’s Jac Leggatt and had the best ladies ‘A’ average of 25.47. 19.27 was the best ladies ‘B’ average and that came from Cumbria‘s Leanne Howard who beat Wiltshire’s April Polden 3-0.
A 21-15 home win over Bedfordshire keeps Norfolk top of the division three table with a total of 130 points. Breconshire remain Norfolk’s closest challengers for the top spot despite losing 23-13 at home to West of England who moved up from fourth to third and are now just one point behind their opponents with 105 points while Breconshire now trail Norfolk by twenty-four points. Isle of Wight’s woes continue going down 24-12 at home to Pembrokeshire to leave them bottom of the table with forty-nine points, twenty-five short of next to bottom Bedfordshire.
A 29.50 average and 4-3 win over Norfolk’s Will Stanmore saw Bedfordshire’s Gareth Murray record the top average in the men’s ‘A’ games while all of the other three top averages went to West of England players. Taking the men’s ‘B’ was Paul Meyer who had a 28.47 average and won 4-2 against Breconshire’s Zac Turner. The ladies ‘A’ and ‘B’ awards went respectively to Emma Bowles and Mev Kelly who in turn won 3-0 against Breconshire’s Emma Richards and Sharon Hill with Emma Bowles averaging 22.77 and Mev Kelly 17.28.

Warwickshire went into their fifth fixture of the season in the Cosmo Darts Premier Division of the UKDA National League lying eighth in the league table with seventy-four points but with a game in hand on all but one of the teams above them. The fixture was a home game against Hampshire who prior to the game were three places above Warwickshire with ninety-seven points from five games, both teams keen to record a win to lift them higher in the table.
The ladies ‘B’ got the weekend off to a fine start roaring into a 3-0 lead as opener Kacie O’Conner began the game with a lady of the match performance beating Cara Rimmer 3-0 with a 21.17 average. Doubling the home team’s lead was Denise Keyte who accounted for Dawn Simmonds with a 3-2 result after trailing 2-0 and assuring the hosts of a share of the points was Jodie Rigg who won 3-0 against Joanne Senior. Hampshire got their first winner in the fourth when Sue Power, after losing the first leg to Nina Bolt went on to win 3-2 and with a similar 3-2 win for Emily Pratt over Chloe McKivett-Saunders the away side were still in with a chance of ending the game with a draw. Caroline Pike made sure that didn’t happen as she won her first leg against Neve Turner with a superb 126 game-shot in fifteen darts and then went on to win the game 3-1 giving Warwickshire ladies ‘B’ a 4-2 victory.
As did the ladies ‘B’ the men’s ‘B’ also opened up a 3-0 lead as Ryan Jackson began the game with a 4-2 win over Arron Monk. Lee Miller made it 2-0 when he beat Richard North 4-1 and the third win was chalked up when man of the match Karl Reynolds won 4-1 against Andy Mitchell with a 29.67 average. Spencer Rooney was Hampshire’s first winner, getting the better of Lloyd Jackson with a 4-2 result. Warwickshire’s three games buffer was restored in the fifth when Jnr Joyce added his 3-2 win over Ady Wright to their account. By the midway point the home team had a 4-2 lead as the half was completed with a 4-1 win for Sam Rooney over Mark Faulkner.
The home side went 5-2 up as the second session got underway, William Naylor beating Aaron Turner 4-2 and although Mike Symes pulled one back for the away team when he beat Adam Hancock 4-2 Mark Strong made sure of at least a share of the points for the hosts when he won 4-2 against Mark Bower. With Warwickshire having a 6-3 lead, Hampshire then had their best run of the match winning the last three games as Graham Chalk began the trio of wins when he won 4-2 against Mark Martin, David Moule then added his 4-0 win against Dave Hill and with a final 4-1 success for Justin Bradshaw over Mark Carter the game finished all-square at 6-6.
The first four games of the ladies ‘A’ match all went against the first throw advantage, Hannah Meek giving Warwickshire the early lead when she won 3-1 against Abi Jurd then Pennie Lewis restoring parity when she won 3-2 against Donna Pinch but only to see the hosts forge ahead for a second time when Kirsty Hinchliffe beat Sue Lowther 3-2 after losing the first two legs. Courtney Hine opened up a 2-0 lead over Tracy North but it was North who got the 3-2 result to take the score to 2-2. Like Hine, team-mate Marian Conway also won the first two legs but then finished on the wrong side of the 3-2 result which went to Hampshire’s Jane Monaghan who gave the visitors the lead for the first time in the match. Sue Power (Hampshire) went 1-0 up against Wendy Adams in the last game but Adams stuck to her task and went on to win 3-1 and give Warwickshire a share of the spoils with a 3-3 result.
The men’s ‘A’ stormed into a 4-0 lead which saw Nigel Heydon win 4-1 against Steve Musson, Gareth Braham hand out a straight 4-0 defeat to Paul Walker, Sam Whittaker beat Mike Gillet 4-2 and Martin Tonks win 4-1 against Ryan Groves. It was game five before Hampshire got their first stripe on the board, Chas Barstow winning 4-1 against Matty Washbrooke. At the halfway stage the home team were leading 5-1 with Steve Hine closing the half with a 4-0 win over Sam Dyke.
Taking Warwickshire into an unassailable 6-1 lead was man of the match Jamie Hughes who in his 4-1 win over Dave Bonnett he recorded a 30.95 average. Hampshire gained their second winner in game eight when Andy Jurd won 4-0 against Wayne Mynard but from there on in it was all Warwickshire Noel Grant winning 4-1 against Luke Getty, Samuel Price beating Rob Doran 4-0, Kevin Dowling winning 4-3 against Kev Woodward and rounding off a superb 10-2 victory was Danny Lauby with his 4-1 win over Davis Moule.
The overall score for the weekend was 23-13 to Warwickshire which saw them move up one place in the table to seventh, but more importantly seeing them reduce the point’s arrears on second place from what was thirty-one to now twenty-five with a game in hand.

In the L-Style Division One of the UKDA National League West Midlands fifth game of the season appeared to be a huge task as they were travelling to take on the divisional leaders Middlesex who were some sixteen points ahead of them.
Despite not starting as favourites for an overall win over the weekend the West Midlands ladies ‘B’ opened up a 3-0 lead with first-on Kelly Doleman winning 3-2 against Sindy Stiles, Tara Simmons-Fullwood winning 3-1 against Louise Grannell and Sarah Maybury getting the better if Tiffany Cross with a 3-2 result. Leanne Palmer was the first winner for Middlesex when she beat Shellbie Simmons 3-1, however Palmer’s win turned out to be the only winner for the home team as Kat McLean beat Leah Nelson 3-1 and lady of the match Hannah Davies won 3-2 against Hayleigh Shaw with an 18.93 average.
Like the ladies, the men’s ‘B’ also opened up a 3-0 lead as Alex Simmons won 4-2 against Owen Carr, Adam Teasdale beat Chris Grannell 4-2 and Callum Parkes had a 4-1 win over Edgar Znutins. A 4-1 win by Chris Everley against Ryan Locker gave Middlesex their first winner, only to see the three games buffer restored for the West Midlands when their man of the match Ryan O’Connor beat Brandon Pearson 4-1 and averaged 29.38. At the halfway mark West Midlands were 4-2 up as the opening six games finished with a 4-2 win for Brian Green (Middlesex) over Anthony Whitehouse.
As the second half got underway West Midlands, with 4-2 wins from Neil Pointon and Ian Stanton over respective opponents James Smith and George Wilkinson forged themselves an unbeatable 6-2 lead and although Tom Dallender won 4-2 against Kieran O’Mahoney to record the home team’s third success, the win was guaranteed in the tenth for the visitors when Dean Simmons-Fullwood added his straight 4-0 win over Adam Finch to their account. Andy Turnbull (Middlesex) had a 4-2 win over Luke Griffiths before the final score was taken to 8-4 in the Midlander’s favour when anchor man Jack Aldridge beat Scott Robertson 4-1.
Going into Sunday’s ‘A’ games West Midlands were leading 13-5 with what was, prior to the encounter, possibly an unthinkable win on the cards. Increasing their lead to 14-5 was first on for the West Midlands Jacqueline Maiden whose 3-1 win and 17.64 average against Lisa Brosnan earned her the team’s match award. From one up the away side then fell 3-1 behind as Vickie Kiely beat Gemma Barrett 3-0, Margaret Sutton won 3-2 against Evonne Taylor and Lisa McClatchley won 3-1 against Claire Hobbs. Keeping hopes alive for a draw for the West Midlands was Jodie Rowlands who accounted for Michele Copas with a 3-1 result. However, a draw was not to be as a 3-0 defeat for Hannah Davies by Wendy Reinstadtler gave Middles ladies ‘A’ a 4-2 win.
Now with a 15-9 lead the West Midlands men’s ‘A’ required four winners for an overall victory for the weekend. The first half saw all six games go against the first throw advantage with Middlesex taking the lead three times thanks to their Jason Neville, Allen Bond and Matty Finch who in turn won against Karl Hughes (4-0), Ash Khayat (4-0) and Mark Craddock (4-0). Wiping-out the hosts lead were Richard Platt, Gavin Baker and Rob Thompson, Platt winning 4-0 against Aaron Beeney, Baker beating Harvey Wilkinson 4-2 and Thompson, not only winning 4-0 against Tim Green but also winning the man of the match award for his 29.91 average to take the score at the break to 3-3 with the Midlanders now requiring just one more winner.
That one more winner was beginning to look very illusive as the second session began, the hosts winning the first four games as Joshua Burksfield beat Adam Teasdale 4-3, Josh Hook won 4-3 against Shane Price, Martin Lukeman had a 4-2 win over Will Beaden and Cam Crabtree won 4-0 against Darren Williams. The all-important fourth winner came in the penultimate encounter, Shaun Carroll winning 4-3 against Nigel Prior to take the tension off the West Midlands anchor man Martin Price who took the result to 7-5 to Middlesex when he won 4-0 against Ian Bartlett.
The amazing 20-16 victory for the West Midlands saw them move three places up the divisional table to fourth with 107 points and although fifteen points short of new leaders Clwyd they still have a game in hand.
———————————
Following their tremendous away win against Middlesex, West Midlands then played hosts to neighbouring Black Country in what was a rearranged game one fixture and going into the game West Midlands were fourth in the division with 107 points and Black Country next to bottom of the table with eighty-seven points.
Home advantage showed as the weekend got underway with West Midlands ladies ‘B’ opening up a 3-0 lead with wins from Sarah Maybury, Kat McLean and Kelly Doleman, Maybury winning 3-1 against McKenzie Raine Thomas and McLean, not only winning 3-0 against Sarah-Jane Parker but also picking up the match award for her 20.04 average. Kelly Doleman won 3-0 against Stella Sims. Game number four saw Black Country gain their first winner in the shape of Paige Robbins who 3-1 success against Hannah Davies earned her the matchaward for her 19.88 average, then with a further 3-1 win for the away team from Kirsty Shaughnessy over Tara Simmons-Fullwood the result all hinged on the final game between Shellbie Simons and Amy-Leigh Tolley. The result, a 3-1 win for Shellbie Simmons to give the hosts a 4-2 victory.
The West Midlands men’s ‘B’ emulated the ladies ‘B’ game by winning the opening three games as Ryan O’Connor and Kieran O’Mahoney in turn won 4-3 against Rich Bowen and Wayne Hobday and Dean Simmons-Fullwood beat Andy Garratt 4-1. Sam Bissell reduced the arrears for the visitors when he won 4-0 against Alex Simmons and with a further 4-3 win for Al Smith over Ryan Locker, Black Country were back in the game. At the midway point of the match the home side had stretched their lead to 4-2 with Jack Aldridge ending the half with a 4-2 win over Kieron Bridgwater.
The second half did not begin as well as the first for the home team as their opponents won the opening four games to go from 4-2 down to lead 6-4. Jake Shipley began the quartet of wins when he won 4-2 against Dan Nicholls, Rob Smith levelling the game at 4-4 with his straight 4-0 win over Adam Teasdale and with a man of the match win for Tom Bissell in which he beat Karl Hughes 4-1 and averaged 30.68, Black Country were in the lead for the first time in the match. Extending their lead to 6-4 was Ian Townsend who added his 4-2 success over Mark Curley to the away team’s account. Callum Parkes kept the home side in with a chance of a draw when he beat Mark Rollinson 4-1 and with a 4-2 win for last on Daniel Hands against Mark Jones, the result was a 6-6 draw. Daniel Hands taking the West Midlands match award for his 27.97 average.
In the ladies ‘A’ match it was the turn of the Black Country team to win the first three games as opener Chez Allcock beat Jodie Rowlands 3-0, Maxine Prosser won 3-1 against Jacqueline Trott and the visitor’s lady of the match Tammy Chance won 3-0 against Kat McLean with a 16.70 average. The home team then fought back wining the last three games to finish all-square at three each. Beginning the string of wins was award winner Gemma Barrett who had a 3-0 win against Heather Wright and averaged 18.33. A 3-1 success for Evonne Taylor over Abbey Hunt took the result to the very last game in which Jacqueline Maiden (West Midlands) won 3-2 against Doreen Hunt to earn her team a share of the spoils.
West Midlands men’s ‘A’ began their game with an overall 13-11 lead but that was shortened in the very first game as Steve Jones (Black Country) won 4-1 against Will Beaden. An award winning performance from Gavin Baker restored West Midlands two games lead, Baker winning 4-2 against Aaron Colley with a 28.24 average before Ryan O’Connor increased the hosts lead to 15-12 with his 4-0 defeat of Alex Howells. It all then went a little pear-shaped for the home side as Black Country chalked up 4-1 wins from Jamie Barrowman and Harry Williams, who in turn defeated Rob Thompson and Shaun Carroll to reduce the arrears and by the halfway stage with a further 4-2 win for man of the match Trev Brannan over Richard Platt, Black Country were leading the game 4-2 and the overall score was level at fifteen each. Trev Brennan’s win saw him chalk-up a superb 33.54 average.
From an all-square point of 15-15 Black Country, who had trailed for most of the weeken, stormed to an overall victory as they swept through the second half’s six games. Liam Kelly and Jamie Rollinson in turn won 4-3 against Martin Price and Ash Khayat then, with 4-1 wins for Michael Powell, George Willetts and Dan Homer against respective opponents Darren Williams, Mark Craddock and Shane Price, Black Country had won the fixture before playing the final game. To emphasise their win Paul Wells completed the rout with a 4-2 success against Jack Aldridge giving the Black Country men’s ‘A’ a convincing 10-2 win and an overall 21-15 victory for the weekend.
Despite their defeat West Midlands moved up from fourth to the top of the promotional table, level on the same 122 points as Clwyd. Winners Black Country moved from next to bottom of the table to fifth with 111 points, just eleven short of the leading duo.
