A 20-16 win away to former leaders of the Cosmo Darts Premier Division of the UKDA National League Cornwall keeps Yorkshire top of the table with ninety-five points extending their lead from eight to twelve points over Lancashire who move up three places in the table to take over from Cornwall in the number two spot. Cornwall’s defeat saw them drop one place to third with seventy-eight points, seventeen short of Yorkshire. Hertfordshire played only their second fixture of the season but romped home with a resounding 28-8 win at London and although they are still lying next to bottom of the division they have two games in hand on the majority of teams above them. Essex, who had a bye, drop into the bottom spot with thirty-eight points but like Hertfordshire have games in hand on nine teams above them.

On the individual scene Hampshire Paul Walker had the top average of 31.31 for the men’s ‘A’ as he accounted for Lincolnshire’s Ben Hazel with a straight 4-0 win. The ladies ‘A’ top player was Glamorgan’s Eve Watson who won 3-1 against Lancashire’s Audrey Underwood. Top of the ‘B’ teams averages were Lancashire’s Rob Rickwood and Lincolnshire’s Amy Evans, Rickwood averaging 31.46 in his 4-1 win over Glamorgan’s Richard Jones while Amy Evans beat Hampshire’s Emily Pratt 3-0 with a super 24.64 average.

Suffolk, continue to lead the field in the Andy Wheeler Fisheries Championship Division but their lead is shortened from thirteen to six points after they went down 22-14 away to Gwent. Humberside lost second place as they finished on the wrong side of the 21-15 result at Northamptonshire which sees them drop to third place with seventy-seven points, twelve fewer than Suffolk and six less than Cambridgeshire whose 20-15 win away to Derbyshire has lifted them up two places in the table to second, their eighty-three points just six less than the leaders. Despite a 19-17 home win over Kent Cheshire remain at the foot of the table but with games in hand on all the teams above them.

Top average for the Championship’s men’s ‘A’ went to Kent’s Mike Brett who had a 4-1 win over Cheshire’s Shaun Walshe with a 31.35 average. Not far behind Brett and just losing out were Humberside’s Lee Budgen and Sussex player Tavis Dudeney who both had a 31.31 average. The top ladies ‘A’ average went to Derbyshire’s Jo Oldershaw who in her straight 3-0 win over Cambridgeshire’s Karen Stanhope had a tremendous 27.83 average.

After only the first four fixtures, Middlesex have taken their previous one point lead and opened up a gap of sixteen points at the top of the L-Style Division One after adding their latest 23-13 win away to Devon to their account. Black Country, who played their fixture one week earlier, had moved up into second place but after the majority of scheduled games were played they dropped to fourth place, now twenty-seven points behind Middlesex but from one game fewer. Clwyd move up from fourth to second after a 21-15 home win over Berkshire while Merseyside who were third, drop to fifth after losing 20-16 at Black Country. A 24-12 home win over Cleveland has seen Somerset move up from seventh to third in the table on seventy-eight points, trailing Middlesex by twenty-two points and six short of Clwyd. Although Buckinghamshire lost 20-16 at home to West Midlands they move off the foot of the table and are replaced by Devon who are on the same fifty total points as Buckinghamshire, both teams having games in hand on five of the teams above them.

A superb 33.16 average saw Clwyd’s David Davies top the men’s ‘A’ averages as he accounted for Berkshire’s  Joe Lacey with a 4-1 result. The men’s ‘B’ accolade going to Black Country’s Rob Smith who had a 4-1 win over Merseyside’s Aaron Jones and averaged 31.60, Somerset’s Ryan Palmer narrowly missing out with his 31.31 average. Black Country also provided the ladies ‘A’ top average as their Tammy Chance beat Adele Mulligan (Merseyside) 3-2 giving her a 22.49 average. The top women’s ‘B’ average of 20.31 was shared by Clwyd’s Jackie Brighton and Devon’s Alison Gabriel-Wotton, the former winning 3-0 against Berkshire’s Tracey Kingston and the latter beating Louise Grannell (Berkshire) by the same 3-0 margin.

Game four in division two produced a top of the table clash between leaders Worcestershire and second placed Salopian. Acting as hosts Salopian went on to win the fixture 20-16 to see them narrow the gap between the two teams from eight points to one single point with both teams holding on to their previous positions. A 22-14 home win over Gwynedd sees County Durham hold on to third place and reduce the arrears on the leaders from twelve to just three points. A 20-16 home win for Wiltshire over Northumberland has seen them lift themselves off the foot of the table and move up three places with Gwynedd replacing them following their defeat at County Durham.

Some big averages in the division’s men’s ‘A’ games as Surrey’s Nick Ellis averaged 32.32, Wiltshire’s Lee Evans had a 31.81 average and Salopian’s Ash Hilditch averaged 31.47 but the top average went to Nottinghamshire’s Paul Harvey who in his 4-0 win over Cumbria’s David Cunningham averaged 32.85. Worcestershire’s Jenny Jones had the ladies ‘A’ top average of 22.33 as she won 3-2 against Salopian’s Tracey Dean. County Durham’s Paul Johnson had a 4-0 win over Gwynedd’s Ben Oliver and topped the men’s ‘B’ charts with a 30.36 average while the ladies’ B’ top lady was Gwynedd’s Emily Mitchell who had a 20.31 average in her 3-0 win over County Durham’s Cheryl Adamson, Worcestershire’s Chloe Luscott narrowly missing out with her 20.29 average.

Just the three fixtures played in division three, Norfolk staying top of the table with a convincing 28-8 home win over Wirral who lose second place and drop to fourth on seventy-seven points, some twenty-nine behind their victors. Gloucestershire’s huge 30-6 home win over bottom placed Isle of Wight has lifted them up four places in the table to second with eighty-five points, still twenty-one short of Norfolk. In the only other fixture played on the scheduled date West of England won their home tie with Montgomery and Radnor 24-12.

Of the three fixtures played the four top averages were shared by Norfolk and West of England, West of England taking the men’s ‘A’ and ‘B’ awards, Andy White with a 30-36 average and 4-0 win over Montgomery and Radnor’s Ryan Griffiths topping the ‘A’ averages and Jimmy Bristow topping the ‘B’ for his 27.70 average and 4-1 success over Will Cardwell (Montgomery and Radnor). The women’s top averages went to Norfolk’s Nikki Goldsmith and Roz Bulmer, Nikki beating Wirral’s Katie Woodcock 3-1 with a 22.57 to top the women’s ‘A’ averages and with an 18.11 average and 3-0 result Roz accounted for Ann Kinsella (Wirral) to win the women’s ‘B’.

Warwickshire’s fourth fixture in the Cosmo Darts Premier Division of the UKDA National League was an away game against Dorset. Warwickshire with fifty-two points were lying sixth in the league table with their hosts next to bottom with twenty-nine points but from only two games

The home side were first off the mark in the ladies ‘B’ match, as their Sarah Chick won 3-0 against Denise Keyte. Jodie Rigg, with a similar 3-0 result accounted for Diane Martin to level the score before Dorset opened up a 3-1 lead with Donna Marbatt-Smith beating Caroline Pike 3-2 and Macie Woodrow won 3-1 against Nina Bolt.  Chloe MvKivett-Saunders kept the away side in the game with her 3-0 success over Jamie-Louise Walker before Donna Pinch, with a lady of the match performance and 3-1 win over Cathy Campbell took the final score to three each with a 20.05 average.

As in the ladies ‘B’ game Dorset once again took the early lead in the men’s ‘B’ match as Jayden Walker won 4-1 against Noah Rose. Warwickshire’s man of the match Dave Hill was quick to restore parity as he, with a 4-1 result and 27.12 average, accounted for Matt Read and with a further straight 4-0 win from Adam Hancock over Mark Porter the away team were in the lead for the first time in the game. However, the lead was short-lived as Richard Wright won 4-1 against Mark Strong, Matt Yarrow beat Jack Wareing, again 4-1 and Jordan Sharpe got the better of Mark Faulkner in a seven legs affair to give Dorset a 4-2 lead at the hallway stage of the game.

Henry Shutler extended the hosts lead to 5-2 as the second session got underway before Warwickshire had their best run of the game winning three-in-a-row thanks to William Naylor, Mark Martin and Jnr Joyce who in turn defeated Lee Matthews (4-3), Nigel Lamb (4-2) and Dale Masterman (4-2). With only two more games to play the score was level at 5-5 and although Lee Miller (Warwickshire) opened up with a super 140 game-shot against Owen Emmett-Bowden, and then after trailing 2-1 levelled in the fourth he lost the game 4-2 to see the home team move to within an ace of victory. That victory came for Dorset in the final tie of the day as Richie Gomm, despite being taken to a decider by Zac Prince won 4-3 to give Dorset’s men’s ‘A’ a 7-5 win to carry a 10-8 lead into Sunday’s games.

The ladies ‘A’ match got off to a good start as Hannah Meek, with her straight 3-0 win over Wendy Lamb earned herself the match award for her super 23.48 average and Warwickshire’s lead was doubled when Marian Conway added her straight 3-0 win over Bevvy Hoey to their account. From 2-0 up the score was then levelled as Peri Yarrow won 3-1 against Courtney Hine and Sam Kirton beat Nina Bolt 3-1. Natalie Gilbert restored the away team’s lead when she won 3-1 against Trina Perry and with a final 3-1 win for Kirsty Hinchliffe over Lorraine Woodrow, Warwickshire ladies ‘A’ won 4-2 to level the overall score at 12-12.

With the score level the men’s ‘A’ now required a win to secure an overall victory and helping them on their way, and opening up a 3-0 lead were Danny Lauby, Steve Hine and Jamie Atkins, Danny Lauby came from 3-2 down to Liam Blakeley to go on and win the game 4-3 in 18 and 16 darts in the final two legs. Steve Hine had a 4-2 success over Steve Earley, going 2-0 up in 18 and 16 darts but was then pegged back to 2-2 before winning the last two legs in 18 and 17 darts giving him an award winning average of 30.60. Jamie Atkins had a 4-1 win over Tommy Morris before Dorset got their first stripe on the board when Ricky King came from 2-0 and 3-2 down against Samuel Price to win 4-3. The deficit was reduced even further in the fifth when Dan Perry won 4-0 against Noel Grant and by the midway point of the match the honours were shared at three each when Ryan Gowans beat Mark Carter 4-1.

Warwickshire’s lead was restored as the second half got underway, Matty Washbrooke beating Robbie Martin 4-3 and with a 4-2 win for Martin Tonks over Kevin Mabbatt Smith the away side were 5-3 up. Mark Grimes pulled one back for Dorset when he won 4-2 against Kevin Dowling  but a similar 4-2 win for Nigel Heydon over Scott Mitchell assured Warwickshire of at least a share of the points. James Green took the result to the final game when he won 4-0 against Gareth Braham and although Jamie Hughes lost the opening leg against Rob Channing he went on to win 4-1 and give his team a 7-5 win plus an overall 19-17 victory for the weekend.

Although there was a win for Warwickshire their place in the league table remained the same at number six but the deficit on second place, now owned by Lancashire, was reduced form twelve to nine points.

In the L-Style Division One, Black Country brought their home game with Merseyside forward by one week which saw the ladies ‘B’ suffer losses in the first two games as Becca Chisnall won 3-2 against Paige Robbins and Emma Barlow won 3-1 against Stella Sims. Amy-Leigh Tolley stopped the rot in the third when she beat Lynne Sorrell 3-2 and with a 3-1 win from Kirsty Shaughnessy over Karen O’Connor the score was level at two each, Kirst Shaughnessy taking the match award for her 14.90 average. A man of the match performance from Rob Smith put the hosts noses in front once again as the second half got underway, Smith beating Aaron Jones 4-1 with a super 31.60 average. The score was levelled once again in the eighth when Martin Greenwood lost 4-1 to Jake Grant, only to see the home team forge ahead yet again in the ninth when Wayne Hobday beat Peter Robins 4-2. With a final 3-1 success for Doreen Hunt over Janet Hardman the result was a super 5-1 win for Black Country’s ladies ‘A’.

With an overall 13-11 lead, Black Country men’s ‘A’ could lose 7-5 and there would still be an overall win for the weekend. George Willetts gave the hosts the early lead as he won the opener against Mike Addison 4-1, however Merseyside then raced into a 3-1 lead as Patrik Williams beat Jamie Barrowman 4-2 and there was then 4-3 wins for Terry Roach and John Prescott against Liam Kelly and Aaron Colley. The visitors charge was halted by man of the match Steve Jones who had a tremendous 32.37 average in his 4-1 win over Anthony Brown. As the match reached the midway point the score was level at 3-3 after Michael Powell won 4-1 against Kevin Lloyd.

Trev Brennan put the home team 4-3 up when he accounted for Steve Gow with his 4-1 win and taking the lead to 5-3 was Dan Homer who beat Robbie Gorst 4-3. Ben Devine kept the away side in the match when he won 4-2 against Alex Howells but a 4-1 win for Paul Wells against Tom Lockyer put Black Country into an unassailable 6-4 lead. Dave Harnick put the pressure on the last two players when he won 4-0 against Jake Shipley, the score now at 6-5 in Black Country’s favour with one to play. A super straight 4-0 win for Tom Bissell over Bradley Williams gave the Black Country men’s ‘A’ a 7-5 win and an overall 20-16 victory for the weekend.

With Black Country bringing their fixture forward they moved up into second place with seventy-three points, just one short of leaders Middlesex, but when all of the other teams played their fourth game and Black Country had only played three they dropped down to fourth place and their seventy-three points now some twenty-seven short of leaders Middlesex but with a game in hand.

West Midlands began their third game of the season in the L-Style Division One two places off the foot of the table but with a game in hand on the eight teams above them. The weekend didn’t get off to a good start as Kelly Rose put the home team, Buckinghamshire, one up when she won 3-0 against Shellbie Simmons. The home team’s lead didn’t last long as their opponents then strung together three wins in a row as Hannah Davies beat Lisa Webb 3-1, Kelly Doleman won 3-1 against Jade Stewart and Tara Simmons-Fullwood won  3-1 against Lesley Gibbs, Tara’s win earning her the match award for her 16.85 average. The opening three games of the men’s ‘B’ match all went to Buckinghamshire as Clive Wilford won 4-1 against Glen McGrandle, Gary Price beat his namesake Paul Price 4-3 and Tim McGarry won 4-1 against Chris Slater. Two wins in a row from Anthony Whitehouse and Callum Parkes, who in turn won against Stuart Robinson (4-2) and Jai Carlton (4-3) reduced the arrears for West Midlands but at the midway point the hosts were 4-2 up as Matt Heffer closed the half with a 4-1 win against Adam Teasdale.

The second half was a much better half for West Midlands as they won the first four games to put them 6-4 up. Kieran O’Mahoney kicked off the quartet of wins with his straight 4-0 success against Paul Stefanovic, Will Beaden then beat Darran Butters 4-1 and was followed by Dean Simmons-Fullwood and Darren Williams who in turn both won 4-3 against Colin Singleton and Emlyn Jones, Williams taking the match award for his 28.91 average. Despite Adam King stopping the winning run when he beat Ian Stanton 4-3 the final score was a 7-5 win for West Midlands when Ash Khayat beat George Grinsted 4-1 in the last game of the day.

The ladies ‘B’ found themselves trailing 2-0 as Buckinghamshire’s Barbara Legge and Kirsty Gibbs had respective 3-1 and 3-2 wins over Jodie Rowlands and Claire Hobbs. Nevertheless at this point the tide changed and the following four games all went to West Midlands as Gemma Barrett won 3-1 against Lorraine Bowen, Evonne Taylor took the match award for her 3-2 win against Ann Wakefield with a 19.06 average, Jacqueline Maiden had a straight 3-0 success over Gerry Johnson and rounding off the 4-2 win was Jacqueline Trott who beat Courtney Amos 3-2.

The first four games of the men’s ‘A’ match all went against the first throw advantage with Buckinghamshire twice taking the lead through John Ayris who won 4-3 against Ryan O’Connor and Karl Deacon who beat Michael Baker by the same 4-3 margin. Replying for West Midlands were Gavin Baker, whose 4-2 win against Liam Maughan earned him the match award for his 30.49 average and Scott Baker who accounted for Steve McLeod with a 4-1 result. For the first time in match the sequence was broken in game five as Shaun Carroll put the away side 3-2 up when he won 4-0 against Steve Vaughan and by the break it was the away team that were 4-2 up as Shane Price closed the half with a 4-3 win over Steve Reed.

West Midlands went further ahead as the second session got underway, Richard Platt beating Leo Beechey 4-3 to give his team a 5-2 lead. The hosts then staged a fight-back, winning four in a row thanks to their Damien Fyffe, Del Boy Pratley, Martin Hill and John Woodbridge who had respective wins over Karl Hughes (4-1), Rob Thompson (4-2), Darren Williams (4-1) and Mark Craddock (4-1). Salvaging a share of the spoils for the Midlanders was Martin Price, his 4-2 win against Glen Young taking the final score to 6-6 and the overall result for the weekend to 20-16 to West Midlands.

The win for the West Midlands saw them move up two places in the table to seventh with fifty-nine points, forty-one behind leaders Middlesex but with a game in hand on four of the six teams above them.

The fourth fixture in division two of the UKDA National League brought together the division’s top two teams, leaders Worcestershire and second placed Salopian, the former top of the table with an eight points lead on their rivals. With home advantage Salopian were hoping to reduce that lead but after the ladies ‘B’ game that looked as though a win could just be a pipe-dream. Kim Jones gave Worcestershire the early lead when she won 3-1 against Stacey Pepperrell but the lead lasted until only the second game as Salopian’s lady of the match Hayley McGuinness won 3-0 against Jackie Mackenzie and received the match award for her 14.88 average and the fact that she turned out to be the home team’s sole winner. Maggie Deakin put the away team in front in the third when she won 3-1 against Julie Pugh and with a 3-0 success for Zena Grand over Karen Weston, the visitors were in an unbeatable 3-1 lead. With 3-1 wins in the last two games for Chloe Luscott and Lynne Arnold over Emma Tapp and Chloe Ames the final score was 5-1 to Worcestershire.

Dave Bayton opened up with a 4-3 win for Salopian when he accounted for Matt Hildebrandt, only to see the win cancelled out as Kev Mason levelled for the visitors with a 4-2 win over Ian Evans. Two wins in a row from Rob Paine and Jamie Chaplin who in turn won 4-1 and 4-2 against Andy Pullen and Chris Jennings put the home side 3-1 up and although George Connolly pulled one back for Worcestershire when he beat Andy Gilbert 4-1, Salopian were 4-2 up at the halfway point when their man of the match Kacey Jones beat Elliott Hancox 4-0 with a 27.08 average.

From 4-2 up Salopian then stormed into a winning 8-2 lead as they kicked off the second half with four consecutive wins. Ben Bevan began the winning run with his 4-2 success over Pat Sinnett, Ben followed by Matt Williams who beat Mark Smith 4-3 before Mick Unsworth and Steve O’Callaghan rounded off the four wins when they won 4-2 and 4-3 against their respective opponents Mark Jones and Ian Papper. Both of the last two games finished with 4-2 scorelines and both of them went to Worcestershire as Eric Wadlow and Phil Rooney in turn defeated Rowan Price and James Jenkins to give an 8-4 result in favour of Salopian.

Going into Sunday’s games the running score was level at 9-9 and was still level after the ladies ‘A’ as that finished with a 3-3 draw. The away team got the first stripe on the board in the ladies ‘A’ match, Jenny Shail beating Anna Peatry 3-0. Julie Griffiths restored parity when she won 3-2 against Steph Kenya and with a straight 3-0 win for Steph Clarke over Sophie Hadley the hosts were in the lead once again with their Steph Clarke wining the match award for her 21.47 average. Jenny Jones levelled the match once again when she beat Tracey Dean 3-2 but the hosts moved into an unbeatable 3-2 lead when Kate Titley won 3-1 against Mandy Morgan only to see the final score taken to 3-3 when Zoe Jones won the last game against Sue lane 3-1.

Going into the men’s ‘A’ match both teams had everything to play for as the running score now stood at 12-12. Salopian had a fantastic start as they romped into a 5-0 lead Mark Graham beginning the run with his 4-1 win over Lee Furneaux, the score then being taken to 3-0 with straight 4-0 wins from Jon Mansell and Terry Nash who in turn defeated Matt Hildebrandt and Peter Hughes. Dafydd Edwards made it 4-0 when he beat Ant Butler 4-1 and rounding off the five wins was Gary Crowther with his 4-2 success over Terence Webster. Worcestershire’s one and only winner in the first half was Ian Mackenzie who closed the half with a 4-2 win against Shane Hayward.

As the second session got underway Eddie Price made sure of a share of the points when he beat Phil Whitlock 4-2. Trailing 6-1 Worcestershire then chalked up two wins in a row thanks to Dave Redding and Graham Hall who had 4-0 results against their respective opponents Andy Evans and Jamie Kynaston. Despite the minor setback the home side got their winning seventh stripe on the board in the tenth encounter when Paul Rowley won 4-2 against Neil Parsonage. Tom Garfield reduced the arrears for the visitors in the penultimate game beating Mark Crutchley 4-1 but with a similar 4-1 win for Salopian’s man of the match Ash Hilditch in the last game of the day against Rob Comben, Salopian’s men’s ‘A’ won 8-4.
