Darts News – A West Midlands Round Up
A 7-2 home win over Mackadown Sports and Social Club not only keeps Sheldon Marlborough Arrows top of the premier league in the Sheldon and District Winter League but also stretched their unbeaten run to five games. It was not such good news for Raven Arrows whose 5-4 home defeat by Langley Arrows sees them lose second place and drop to third with six points, four fewer than the leaders but with a game in hand. Taking over in the number two spot is Langley Arrows who have the same six points as Raven but with a slightly better average. Neil Parsonage (Sheldon Marlborough Arrows) hit the only maximum in the premier league this week his team mate Nigel Daniels chalking up a winning nine darts leg.
A 7-2 defeat at Smithswood Social Club has cost Yardley Ex Colts the leadership in division one, they drop to second place while their victors replace them at the top of the table with the same eight points but from four winning games whereas Yardley have played five. Also on eight points from five games is third placed Langley Flights, their latest fixture seeing them win 6-3 at home against Kingshurst Labour Club, Stephen Shepherd recording a nine darts game for Kingshurst. Hunters Moon, with a maximum from Gill Lynch move off the foot of the divisional table with their first win of the campaign as they recorded a 5-4 success at Hollywood Social Club whose Brian Hughes had a 140 game shot.
Moseley Rugby Club have been ousted from their perch at the top of division two after losing 5-4 at Lyndon Old Boys. Maggies won 5-4 at home against Shirley Misfits to move up into pole position with six points from four games, second placed Moseley Rugby Club having played five games are also on six points. Third and fourth in the division Sheldon Marlborough Flights and Lyndon Old Boys are also both on six points, the former having played four games and the latter five. Sheldon Marlborough Flights had their game with Digby postponed.

No change in the top three places in the Kings Norton League after completing game number three, Copper Fox hold on to the top spot with a 5-2 win at Cock Inn, E Simpson notching two maximums for the winners. Second placed Northfield are the only other team besides Copper Fox to have a 100% win record, the latest being 5-2 at Greenlands with N.Steventon hitting a maximum for the winners. Making up the top three is Longbridge who despite a 180 from their K.Malone lost their home tie with Dingle 4-3 to leave them two points behind the top two teams. On the same four points as Longbridge are fourth, fifth and sixth placed Bournebrook, Stirchley and Bourneville who in turn won 5-2 at Kings Norton Flights, 5-2 at home against Kings Norton Ex Serviceman’s Club and 4-3 at home against Toby Jug.

Of the fifteen teams lining up at the beginning of the new season in the Harborne and District League no fewer than six of them after the opening three games, are able to boast a 100% win record. Northfield Conservative Club top the table on average after their latest 8-1 win at Kings Norton Ex Serviceman’s Club with Copper Fox ‘R’ second just one leg of average behind the top team after they handed out a 9-0 whitewash to their hosts Lion Bar. Copper Fox ‘M’ are third a further three legs adrift after they won their home tie with Avenue Social again 9-0. Making up the to six are Smethwick Cricket Club who won 7-2 at home against Bourneville, Northfield Darts Club who were 6-3 winners at Cock Inn and Thimble Mill after their 8-1 home success against Windsor Complex.
Top individual performances this week came from E.Simpson (Copper Fox ‘R’) who hit two maximums, and there was one each for Joe Fox (Cock Inn), M.Collins (Smethwick Cricket Club), R.Hosey (Northfield Conservative Club) and C.Fowler (Copper Fox ‘M’).

Due to Nomads @ Holyfields having a bye this week they lose the top spot in division one of the Four Oaks and District League and drop to second place behind new leaders Highcroft Hotdogs who won 6-3 at home against Old Horns Lions which leaves them two points ahead of the former leaders and also Bishop Vesey, Walmley CSC Flights and Red Lion. Bishop Vesey were also 6-3 winners in their home tie with Plough and Arrows, Walmley CSC Flights went one better with a 7-2 win at Charley’s Flights and in their home game with Heartlands, Red Lion won 6-3.
Erdington Arrows had a somewhat surprising 5-4 home defeat to next to bottom of the divisional table Rosey Mac’s Bar, this being Rosey Mac’s Bar’s first win in eight games. Nevertheless despite the defeat Erdington hold on to pole position with twelve points but joining them on the same number of points are Rosey Mac’s who have played one game more than the leaders, Drakes Drum who have a game in hand on the top team and Pint Pot Flights. Rosey Mac’s lost the opportunity to go top when they lost 5-4 at home to Sutton Sports, in a rearranged fixture Drakes Drum handed out a 9-0 thrashing to their hosts Sutton Sharks and Pint Pot Flights had a close 5-4 home success against Beggars Bush.

The South West Birmingham Clubs Winter League have got their new season underway and setting the pace in division one is Stirchley United who began their campaign with a 6-2 home win over Bournbrook to give them a narrow one leg advantage over second and third placed Longbridge United and Northfield Conservative Club ‘B’, Longbridge were 5-3 winners at Northfield Darts Club while Northfield Conservative’s won by the same margin at West Heath CEM.
In the pre-match doubles for division one Stirchley United top the table again with eleven points, two more than second placed Longbridge United and four to the good on third placed Northfield Conservative Club.
Two teams share the number one spot in division two Northfield Conservative Club ‘A’ and Quarry Club after in turn they won 7-1 against E57 and Bartley Green FC. Perfection make up the top three after their 5-3 home success against Moseley All Services Club they are two points short of the top two teams.
There is a similar situation in the division two pre-match doubles with Northfield Conservative Club ‘A’ top with eleven points, Quarry Club second on ten points and Perfection third with eight points.

Wakefield Warriors continue their winning ways in the Camp Hill League making it six straight wins with a 6-1 home win over bottom placed Sedgemere Devils, keeping intact their four points lead over second and third placed Erdington Nomads and Roost Bosh. Erdington Nomads had a close 4-3 win at Cotterills Lane EBAHA Club which saw Cotterills drop one place to fourth on six points with Roost Bosh replacing them at number two with a their 5-2 win at Clumsy Swan. Although they are four points behind Warriors, Erdington Nomads have played one fixture fewer than the Nomads.

The Netherton Thursday Night 501 League played off the quarter-finals of their League Cup and Shadow Cup, in the former winning through to the semi-finals were Bulls Head who with a 160 break from S.Tipper won 5-4 against Spring Meadow Pub, K.Barnfield hitting a maximum for Spring Meadow, Old Liberal Club won 8-1 against Dudley Ex Serviceman’s Club ‘B’ with a 180 for the Liberal Club’s N.Fullwell who also had a 160 break as did his team mate S.Hall. Hill and Cakemore Ex Serviceman’s Club beat Old Glasshouse 6-3 with T.Johnson hitting a maximum for the winners, joining them in the last four are Plough and Harrow who had a narrow 5-4 win over Dudley Ex Serviceman’s Club ‘A’ whose M.Rollinson hit two maximums.
In the Shadow Cup last four games there were 180’s for D.Hand and R.Lowe as their team British Oak won 6-3 against Netherton Sports and Social Club, Hare and Hounds winning by the same margin against Cottage Spring. A maximum from J.Brookes helped Spring Meadow Social to an 8-1 success over Netherton Conservative Club and with a similar 8-1 result Townsend Social Club beat Mount Pleasant with L.Beasley having a 152 finish for the winners.

Congratulations go to the Bell who for the third season running have won the Rowley Monday Night League. Bell’s final game of the season was an away fixture against Hawthorns ‘B’ which they won 7-2 making it twenty-nine wins in thirty games which gave them a six points advantage over runners-up Plough and Harrow who ended their campaign with a similar 7-2 win at Rowley Bar and Grill to give them a total of fifty-two points four more than third placed Hawthorns who suffered a final 7-2 defeat at Romsley Cricket Club.
Taking the wooden spoon was Huntingtree who won just two of their thirty games, one of those coming in the last game of the season when they won 5-2 at home against sixth in the league Tividale FC.
Rowley Labour Club won the Shadow League with a total of ninety-two points, four more than runners-up White Swan.

Dudley Ex Serviceman’s Club had a costly defeat in game number thirty-three of the Silver End Sunday Morning League as they lost their home game against Old Star 5-3. Going into the fixture the Ex Serviceman’s Club were top of the table with their opponents lying third but the reversal has seen the former leaders drop to second place on seventy-nine points from thirty-three games with their victors moving to within five points of them with game in hand. Taking over at the top of the table is another one-time leader Dudley Sports ‘A’ whose 6-2 win at Pensnett Liberal Club has put them on eighty points, one more than the Ex Serviceman’s Club and from one game fewer than the club have played.

Bridge, Mount Pleasant and Roebuck ‘B’ are currently third, fourth and fifth in the league and are all on the same thirty-six points. In the latest round of fixtures Bridge won 9-0 at home against Tommy Turners ‘B’, Mount Pleasant won 6-3 at Pensnett Liberal Club ‘A’ and Roebuck ‘B’ had a 7-2 home win over Glasshouse ‘B’.

New Inn 2 won their twelfth fixture of the season in the Sedgley and Gornal Tuesday Night League 7-2 at home against Netherton Sports and Social Club to keep them four points ahead of Mount Pleasant and Gornal British Legion who are second and third in the league. Mount Pleasant missed the opportunity to reduce the arrears when they lost 5-4 at home to Gornal British Legion, the two teams both having a game in hand on the leaders.
There were maximums for both C.Tennant (Jolly Crispin) and P.Watton (Gornal British Legion) this week.

Jackie Trott missed out on the title as she lost her last two games against Hannah Davies and Tara Simmons-Fullwood 3-2, Hannah Davies finishing the season in style as she played off five outstanding fixtures and won them all to see her climb from ninth to finish fourth with seventy-two points.

It’s as you were at the top of the singles and doubles leagues in the Wolverhampton Tuesday Night League as Junction ‘B’ continue to head both leagues with Hotshots hold on to second place. Junction ‘B’ won their home game with Wednesfield Legion 5-2 in the singles and 2-1 in the doubles to put them on respective points in both league forty-six and forty-four. Hotshots handed out whitewashes to Gilbert’s Bar ‘B’ in both leagues winning 7-0 and 3-0 to leave them trailing Junction ‘B’ by two points in the singles but level on points in the doubles, however they trail the leaders heavily on average.
