Darts News – A West Midlands Round Up

It was cup week in the Sheldon and District Winter League, the preliminary rounds of their Divisional League Cups, in the premier league there was just the one game in which Langley Arrows, with a maximum from their Bobby Nixon, won 5-4 against Brian’s Flights whose Darren Whitehouse had an eleven darts game.

There were two division one games both ending with close 5-4 results as Kingshurst Labour Club with an eleven darts game for Stephen Shepherd defeated Old Salts Darts and despite an eight darts game from Connor Cupkovic and a 117 finish from Preston Cupkovic, their team Trident Spears lost out to Smithswood Social Club.

In the one game played in division two Lyndon Old Boys player Dave Sheridan hit a maximum and recorded a ten darts game as his team won 7-2 against The Raven.

Wakefield Warriors maintained their unbeaten record in the Camp Hill League taking their winning run to four games with a convincing 6-1 home win over Clumsy Swan. Cotterills Lane EBAHA Club lost their second place after suffering a close 4-3 home defeat to Roost Bosh who take over in the number two spot two points behind the leaders, while Cotterills drop one place to third and are four points off the top. Erdington Nomads, Wakefield Terriers and Moseley Arms are all also on four points with Erdington Nomads and Wakefield Terriers having a game in hand on the team above them. The latest round of fixtures saw Erdington Nomads win 5-2 at Roost Rebels, Moseley Arms win 6-1 at home against Sedgemere Devils while Wakefield Terriers had a bye.

The South West Birmingham Clubs League have completed their league fixtures and with a final 5-2 win at Quarry Club, Stirchley United won the division one title with a total of eighteen points with their opponents finishing as runners-up with fourteen points. Perfection lost their fixture at Northfield Conservative Club ‘B’ 4-3 to take the wooden spoon as they went throughout the season’s ten games without a win.

The division one pre-match doubles division one title went to Northfield Darts Club who amassed a total of 111 points with an advantage of six over second placed Quarry Club.

Surprisingly Northfield Conservative Club ‘A’ lost their final fixture against third placed Bartley Green FC 4-3 to see them finish on the same twelve points as Kings Norton Ex Serviceman’s Club who had the better average.

The division two pre-match doubles division title went to Kings Norton Ex Serviceman’s Club whose ninety points was six more than runners-up Northfield Conservative Club ‘A’.

Individual honours in division one went to J.Cutler (Northfield Darts Club) who not only won all of his ten games to clinch the most wins but he also hit the most tons, which was seventeen. In division two the most wins, which was seven out of eight games, was shared by T.Pratty (Moseley All Services Club) and D.Ford (Bartley Green FC). Thirteen was the most scores of a ton or more and that was achieved by A.Sutton (Northfield Consevative Club ‘A’).

Nomads @ Hollyfields have been ousted from their number one spot in division one of the Four Oaks and District League and drop to second place after going down 5-4 at home to Bishop Vesey who move up two places to fifth on the same six points as their hosts but trail on the number of legs won, however they do have a game in hand on the leaders and two on their hosts. Taking over at the top of the division is Highcroft Hotdogs who added a 7-2 home win over Plough and Arrows to their tally to give them eight points. Third and fourth placed Old Horns Lions and Old Oscott Arrows are also on six points and in their latest fixtures Old Horns Lions lost 6-3 at home to Walmley CSC Flights while Old Oscott Arrows won their home tie with Heartlands 5-4.

It’s close in division two with only two points separating the top seven teams. Beggars Bush lose pole position as they had a bye this week, they drop to fifth on six points. Erdington Arrows go up from second to take over at the top of the division with eight points after their resounding 8-1 home win over fifth placed St Thomas Arrows, they have an average lead over second placed Rosey Mac’s plus a game in hand after Rosey Mac’s went down 7-2 at home to fourth in the division Sutton Sharks. Drakes Drum are third and like the two teams above them are on eight points but from only four games making them the only 100% win team in the division. In their latest fixture Drakes Drum won 7-2 at Sutton Sports. Sixth in the division Pint Pot Flights had a 5-4 home win over Deer’s Leap.

Just the one maximum this week and that was recorded by Nomads @ Hollyfields Carl Winters.

Old Liberal Club require just one more win in the Stourbridge and District Monday Night League to give them the perfect season with thirty-six wins from their thirty-six games. In their penultimate fixture Old Liberal Club handed their hosts Mount Pleasant a 7-0 whitewash to put them on seventy points with a lead of eight over second place Gate Hangs Well ‘B’ who won their home game against Glasscutters ‘A’ 4-3 to keep them two points ahead of third in the league Princess who won 5-2 at Seven Stars. Only average separates the fourth and fifth placed teams as they both have fifty-six points, Swan holding on to fourth place with a 4-3 home win over Crestwood while Netherton Conservative Club ‘B’ kept the pressure on Swan with a 6-1 home win over Raven.

Although the leaders of the Silver End Sunday Morning League Dudley Sports ‘A’ lost 5-3 playing away against fifth in the table Church Tavern they hold on to the top spot with seventy-one points but have had their lead reduced to a single point, but with a game in hand after second placed Dudley Ex Serviceman’s Club won 5-3 at home against High Acres ‘C’. Third placed Old Star’s 6-2 home win over Tenth Lock keeps them within two points of the Ex Serviceman’s Club and thirteen to the good on fourth, fifth and sixth placed Mount Pleasant, Church Tavern and Old Liberal Club. Mount Pleasant lost 5-3 playing at home against Old Liberal Club.

The Rowley Monday Night League played off the finals of their singles knockouts and winning the Top Half event was Trevor Brennan (Bell) who defeated Glen Edwards (Romsley Cricket Club) in the final, Brennan in top form hitting not only a maximum but also recording the perfect game of 301 in six darts.

Winner of the Shadow League knockout was David Whittle (Rowley Labour Club) who in his final beat team-mate Richard Lenton who had an eight darts game.

A 9-0 win at Mount Pleasant has seen Dudley Ex Serviceman’s Club ‘A’ extend their lead at the top of the Brierley Hill Monday Night League table to six points as their nearest rivals Maverick lost 7-2 at Old Bush who are sixth in the league on thirty points some twelve fewer than the leaders and six less than their opponents. Bridge are placed third, their 7-2 win at Brickmakers Arms putting them on thirty-two points and reducing the deficit on Maverick to four points. A surprising 6-3 defeat away to seventeenth in the table Pensnett Liberal Club ‘B’ has seen Roebuck ‘B’ lose the chance of going third in the table and they are now fourth on the same thirty-two points as Bridge. Roebuck ‘A’ reduced the arrears on their ‘B’ side to just two points with their 9-0 win against Pensnett Liberal Club ‘A’.

The top seven teams in the Stourbridge and District Wednesday Night League remain the same after game twenty-one with Old Liberal Club ‘A’ continuing to lead the field with thirty-eight points despite them losing 5-2 playing away against their nearest rivals Swan who are now level on points with their opponents and although trailing on average have a game in hand. Third in the league Bird in Hand ‘E’ were 5-2 winners at Beech Tree Miners to keep witihin two points of Swan and stay two ahead of fourth placed Hollybush who were also 5-2 winners in their game at Stourbridge FC.

It’s week three in the Netherton Thursday Night 501 League and there are four teams all with a perfect nine points from their opening three games at the top of the table. A 6-3 win at Plough was not enough for Bulls Head to hold on to pole position as Old Liberal Club handed out a 9-0 whitewash to their visitors Mount Pleasant to put them top of the table on average, a slender one leg more than second placed Bulls Head. A further two legs of average behind is third in the league Hill and Cakemore Ex Serviceman’s Club who won their home tie with Hare and Hounds 7-2. Dudley Ex Serviceman’s Club ‘A’ make up the top four, their 6-3 win at Townsend Social Club leaving them four legs of average short of leaders Old Liberal Club. In their win, Bulls Head player G.Jackson hit two maximums and P’O’Brien one plus there was one each for D.Edwards (British Oak) and A.Floyd (Old Liberal Club).

It’s as-you-were for the top four teams in the Sedgley and Gornal Tuesday Night League with all of them winning in their latest fixtures. Leaders New Inn 2 won 7-2 at home against Triangle and second placed Red Cow with a maximum from Geoff Marson won 5-4 in their home tie with Jolly Crispin. Third and fourth placed Mount Pleasant and Netherton Sports and Social Club are level on points and average, the former winning 7-2 at home against Meadow Lark and the latter, who also had a home game, won 6-3 against Cabin.

There was setback for Jacqueline Maiden’s title hopes in the West Midlands Ladies Super League as she lost 3-0 to Shellbie Simmons, however she retains her two points lead as second in the league Gemma Barrett also lost 3-0 in her game against Debbie Davies. Shellbie Simmons also added a 3-1 win over Jacqui Simmons to her account to see her move up from eighth in the table to fifth on fifty-five points, twenty-three behind Jacqueline Maiden but with five games in hand. Third placed Jackie Trott didn’t play this week, she is on seventy-one points and has three games in hand on the two players above her.

A 5-0 home win over Wednesbury British Legion keeps Dog and Partridge title hopes on course in the West Midlands Men’s Super League, they have 106 points from 26 games and an eight points lead, plus a game in hand on second in the league Kings Head ‘A’ who in the local derby with their ‘B’ side lost 3-2. Gilbert’s Bar ‘B’ are third on 95 points, just three short of Kings Head ‘A’ with a a game in hand after they won 3-2 at home against fourth in the table Dudley Ex Serviceman’s Club.

Congratulations to Tom Bissell who with a total of 446 points won the Amblecote RBL Premier League title losing just six of his seventy games. Reece Colley and Dan Nicholls finished level on points and games won, their sixty wins producing 431 points. Reigning champion Nick Fullwell finished fifth with 406 points and 59 wins.

The most 180’s (107) went to Gavin Smith, three players had a maximum 170 finish and they were Reece Colley, Joe Poole and Cayden Smith. The highest match winning average of 101.7 went to Tom Bissell and checking out in nine darts once again it was Reece Colley.

The second division in the Gilbert’s Bar Monday Night Singles League have completed their programme and the champion with 235 points from his 30 games is Kurt Wright who lost just one fixture throughout the season. Runner-up was Alan Melling who had 204 points.

With only a couple of games still to play in division one Scott Baker has already won the title and is on 240 points from 33 games with two more to play. Second placed Dean Simmons-Fullwood also has two more games to play and is on 225 points and should finish as runner-up, however fourth placed Ian Stanton has 210 points and has three more games to play.

The top three players in division three all have one more fixture to play but the title has long been Dave Thackeray’s as he is currently on 310 points, has won 33 of his 34 games and has a lead of forty points over second placed Joe Bartolo who will finish as runner-up.

The Wolverhampton Tuesday Night Darts League’s Doubles Knockout attracted an encouraging forty-six pairs and working their way through the field to lift the title were Dave Lucas and Conor Lucas (Corpus Christi ‘A’) who won the final against Paul Harrison and Chris Powell (Golden Lion) 3-1. Losing semi-finalists were Andy Jervis and Ryan O’Connor (Gilbert’s Bar ‘A’), Alan Marsh and Mike Matthews (Dog and Partridge).
