The fourth fixtures in the UKDA National League and the final games in 2022 brought together the top two teams in the Cosmo Darts Premier Division. Prior to the fixture Lancashire were in pole position with a total of 81 points just three more than their nearest rivals and opponents Hampshire. With home advantage Hampshire got the weekend off to a good start when their ladies ‘B’ won 5-1 but at the end of the day they had their lead reduced to 10-8 as the men’s ‘B’ finished on the wrong side of a 7-5 result.
The Hampshire ladies pulled out the stops once again on Sunday as the ‘A’ side won 4-2 and with a 6-6 draw from the men’s ‘A’ the home side had a 20-16 victory to take them top of the division with 101 points, four more than Lancashire who dropped to second place.
Yorkshire had a 24-12 home win over London while Essex won their home game with Cheshire 22-14 and Warwickshire, who also had a home tie beat Cornwall 23-13, the three winning teams all in turn hold on to their third, fourth and fifth places. At the other end of the division the bottom three remain the same with Cheshire bottom, then Kent and two off the bottom Glamorgan, after Cheshire lost at Essex, Kent lost 21-15 at Staffordshire and Glamorgan went down 22-14 at Lincolnshire.
In the Andy Wheeler Fisheries Championship division Dorset hold on to the top spot, even though they were held to an 18-18 draw at home by Oxfordshire, who were some seven places below them and with twelve fewer points. Berkshire lost their number two position after they lost 21-15 at Sussex and drop to fourth on 80 points, six short of the leaders. Taking over in the second place is Cleveland following their 23-13 home win over Gwynedd and with 84 points they are just two behind Dorset with Hertfordshire third a further one point adrift after they won 25-11 at home against Humberside.
Cambridgeshire, with a game in hand remain at the foot of the table, their 22-14 home win over Devon taking their points tally to 53, twelve behind Gwynedd who have dropped one place to next to bottom. Northamptonshire move up from the next to bottom position with a 20-16 win at Gwent giving them a total of 66 points one more than Gwynedd and with a game in hand.
In the L-Style Division One Derbyshire remain at the top of the table but have had their eight points lead reduced to seven after a surprisingly close 19-17 win at Surrey who are just two places off the foot of the table. County Durham dropped from second to seventh after going down 20-16 at West Midlands who are ninth in the ten teams division but with a game in hand. Suffolk’s 24-12 win at Leicestershire has seen them move up three places to second on 89 points, seven short of Derbyshire with third placed Buckinghamshire losing ground in the promotion race now on 81 points after their 20-16 loss at Somerset.
Despite their win, West Midlands drop to a next to bottom of the table position with 62 points just five more than Worcestershire who are bottom after they suffered a 22-14 defeat at Merseyside. Second and third from bottom Surrey and County Durham are both on 66 points and with the two teams below them having played one game fewer they are in danger of dropping into the relegation zone.
A narrow 19-17 defeat at Wiltshire has seen West of England lose their number one spot in division two to Black Country who following their 24-12 home win over Bedfordshire top the table with 95 points nine more than West of England who drop to second place. Tyne and Wear move up three places into third, their 19-17 home win over Clwyd leaving them just six points behind West of England.
Gloucestershire’s season gets no better as they fell to a 24-12 defeat at Cumbria to leave them at the foot of the table with 55 points, seventeen short of the team just above them Bedfordshire and twenty short of Wiltshire and safety.
The good start to the season continues for Middlesex in division three adding a convincing 28-8 win at Pembrokeshire to their account to give them 114 points and a huge lead of 27 over Shropshire who have taken over from local rivals Salopian (who had a bye), in second place after their 26-12 win at Isle of Wight. Although they suffered a 20-16 win at Breconshire, Northumberland hold on to their third place with 83 points, two more than fourth in the division and their hosts Breconshire.
The big reversal for Isle of Wight leaves them stranded at the foot of the table with just 25 points, 24 short of Pembrokeshire who drop one place to next to bottom following their defeat away to the divisional leaders. Wirral gained an important 24-12 win at Montgomery and Radnor to lift them up two places from their next to bottom position with their hosts dropping just below them two places of the bottom of the division.

The weekend began really well for Warwickshire in their fourth fixture at home to Cornwall in the Cosmo Darts Premier Division of the UKDA National League as the women’s ‘B’ chalked up a 4-2 win. Nina Bolt got the ball rolling with her opening 3-0 success over Debbie Crocker and with Angela Jones coming from 1-0 down against Jacqui Champion and going on to win 3-1 the lead was doubled. Chloe McKivett looked all set to make it 3-0 when she went 2-0 up against Rachel Graves but the Cornish player fought back and went on to win 3-2 and give her team their first winner.
By the fourth game it was level pegging as Becky Curnow (Cornwall) went from 1-0 down against Melanie Jones to go on and win 3-1 but a 3-2 win for Courtney Hine over Emma Dow in the penultimate encounter restored the home side’s lead. With a lady of the match performance and a 3-1 win for Hannah Meek over Laura Shepherd in the final game Warwickshire had won 4-2, Hannah’s average 20.20.
The men’s ‘B’ team didn’t have the best of starts as the opening four players were all taken to a deciding leg and lost 4-3 as Karl Reynolds, Martin Tonks, Mark Tomlinson and Adam Hancock in turn lost to Sam Hicks, Paul Ellis, Simon Furse and Joseph Yendle.
Game five saw Noah Rose go one down to Patrick Archibald but Rose held his nerve and went on to win 4-1 to give the hosts their first stripe on the board. By the halfway mark the scoreline was 4-2 to Cornwall as Nigel Heydon (Warwickshire) rounded off the half with a straight 4-0 win over Tyrone Stephen to reduce the arrears for his team.
The second half was a completely different story as Warwickshire romped home from 4-2 down to an 8-4 victory. Dave Hill began the six consecutive wins as he beat Richard Craddock 4-2, Ian McFarlane levelled the score at 4-4 with his similar 4-2 win over Josh Symons and giving the home side the lead for the first time in the game was Mark Strong with his straight 4-0 win over Mark Odgers. Taking the score along to 6-4 was Mark Carter whose 4-1 win against Jaden Whitting saw him register no fewer than eleven three figure scores in winning legs of 18,14,15 and 21 darts for a man of the match average of 29.07.
Mark Martin was taken the full seven legs distance by Lee Agar but he followed up his winning legs of 14,17 and 17 with a superb game and match winning 13 darts leg hitting 95,76,140,174 and checking out on double eight for a great 4-3 victory.
The final game of the day saw Scott Hope beat Carl Jeffery 4-1 to confirm an 8-4 win with a 12-6 lead to take into Sunday’s games.
Cornwall were first out of the blocks in the ladies ‘A’ game as Tracey Hancock put them one up with her 3-2 win over Caroline Pike and Maria O’Brien doubled the visitors lead with her 3-0 success against Marian Conway. Donna Pinch (Warwickshire) stopped the Cornish charge when in the third game she had a straight 3-0 win over Sarah Gill.
By the fourth game Cornwall were assured of at least a draw as Pauline Mead added her 3-0 win over Kat Spanswick to their account and with a further 3-1 success for Nikki Furse over Sue Gulliver the visitors had achieved their win.
The final game looked as though it would also go to the away team as Teresa Brookshaw went within an ace of victory when she opened up a 2-0 lead over Tammy Montgomery. However, Tammy, winner of the previous two match awards was in no mood not to make it three and she responded with winning legs of 21 and 19 darts to level the game and then with a win in the decider won 3-2 and claimed her third consecutive award for her 21.25 average and took the final score to 5-2 to Cornwall.
The first three players in the men’s ‘A’ game Kevin Dowling, Tom Martin and Gareth Braham all had to come from behind as Dowling trailed 1-0 and 2-1 to Michael Jones and won 4-2, Martin also went 1-0 and 2-1 down and then 3-2 down before beating Simon Rees 4-3 and Braham after trailing 2-0 to Paul Ellis went on to win 4-2.
Simon Knowles momentarily stopped the rot for Cornwall as he won 4-1 against Wayne Mynard but by the mid-point of the game the home team were 5-1 up after adding a 4-1 win from Matty Washbrooke over Jez Campe and a straight 4-0 win from Jamie Atkins over Neil Meneer. Atkins was in superb form beating Meneer in 14,18,19 and 14 darts to give him a tremendous award winning average of 30.83.
The second half kicked off in the same vein as the first ended with another straight 4-0 win provided this time by this season’s newcomer to Warwickshire darts Chris Wickenden (28.63) who accounted for Tex Thomas. Dennis Bryant reduce the deficit for the visitors as he won 4-2 against Jack Wareing after Wareing had opened up 1-0 and 2-1 leads but the match winning leg was put up in the ninth when Noel Grant beat Kevin Dunstan 4-0 taking the score to 7-2.
Cornwall got their third winner on the tenth, Matt Knowles winning 4-2 against Jenson Walker, however that turned out to be their last winner as Jamie Hughes came from 2-0 down against Kevin Bray to win 4-2 and Steve Hine won 4-0 against Greg Hambly to give the men’s ‘A’ a 9-3 win and an overall victory for the weekend of 23-13.

West Midlands scheduled fourth fixture of the season in the UKDA National League (but in reality was only their third as their game with Worcestershire was previously postponed) was a home tie with County Durham, a game whereby the hosts were in desperate need of a win and points to ease their situation at the foot of the table as in their previous games they had lost 19-17 at Leicestershire and then won by the same margin at Suffolk leaving them next to bottom of the table but with a game in hand.
The County Durham fixture saw the visitors get the better start to the weekend as their ladies ‘B’ won 4-2 with Crysta Wilcox and Shellbie Simmons the only winners for the home team. Shellbie taking the match award for her 3-0 win over Babs Smith and her 19.03 average.
First blood went to County Durham in the men’s ‘B’ game as Paul Johnson opened up with a 3-2 win over Mark Craddock but the score was levelled in the second when Neil Pointon got the better of James McClurg with a 3-1 result. The home side went ahead for the first time in the third when Jay Woodhouse beat Paul Berriman 3-2 and with 3-1 wins from both Ben Johnson and Mark Maiden over respective opponents Michael Walker and Ian Adamson the Wet Midlands were 4-1 up. By the break the score was 4-2 as Rob Wild (County Durham) closed the half with a 3-1 win over John Morris.
The second half began well as Dean Simmons-Fullwood, despite being taken to a deciding leg by Carl Redden won 3-2 and at the end of the day took the team’s man of the match award for his 28.31 average.
From leading 5-2 West Midlands had their surplus reduced to 5-4 as County Durham’s Jonny Barnes beat Kieran O’Mahoney 3-1 and David Nixon pulled one out of the hat to record a narrow 3-2 victory over Sam Guest.
Glen McGrandle got West Midlands back on winning ways and assured his team mates of at the worst a draw when he took the running score along to 6-4 with his 3-2 win over Robert Howe and although Stuart Walker kept the visitors in with a chance of a draw when in the penultimate encounter he won 3-2 against Ian Stanton the 7-5 win for the home side was chalked up when anchor man Rob Thompson beat John Teal 3-1.
It was a weekend to forget for the ladies ‘A’ as they slumped to a 5-1 defeat with Jacqueline Maiden their sole winner as she defeated Clare Stewart 3-2 giving her the match award for her 16.64 average.
The first half of the men’s ‘A’ game went exactly the same as the men’s ‘B’ game with County Durham going one up and by the midway point the hosts were leading 4-2. Gerry Hall put the first stripe on the board for County Durham as he won 4-1 against Michael Baker. Then came four consecutive wins for West Midlands as Kevin Bambrick won 4-1 against Robbie Douthwaite, Gavin Baker beat Stuart Walker 4-0, Jon Platt was taken to a decider by Michael Gladstone and won 4-3 and taking the score to 4-1 was man of the match Shaun Carroll whose 4-0 win over Jack Bell and 28.63 average earned him the award. After the first six games the score was 4-2 as Chris Dominey (County Durham) beat Adam Johnson 4-2 in the last game of the half.
From 4-2 up the second half was all one-way traffic and all in West Midlands favour as they romped to a 10-2 victory with wins from Ian Jones (4-2 against Gary Miller), Ryan O’Connor (4-1 against Rob Wild), Owen Maiden (4-1 against Stephen Annan), Darren Williams (4-3 against Dean Scott), Ash Khayat (4-3 against Eddie Brown) and Richard Platt (4-0 against Jack Kirtland).
The overall score for the weekend saw West Midlands win 20-16 to relieve some of the pressure on them in their lowly position but the game in hand they have could hopefully lift them way up the table to safety.

Black Country began their weekend’s fixture at home to Bedfordshire in division two of the UKDA National League top of the table with 95 points while their visitors were fighting off relegation in a next to bottom of the table position with 72 points.
The fixture for the ladies finished all-square as both the ‘A’ and ‘B’ games finished with a 3-3 result. Saturday’s ‘B’ game saw Black Country take a 2-0 lead through Heather Wright and Lacey Hughes but Bedfordshire fought back and reversed the advantage as with wins from Fran Bent, Lynda Drawe and Donna Hutt they moved to within an ace of victory but with a lady of the match performance from Doreen Hunt who beat Irene Maddy 3-2 with a 15.51 average, the final score was 3-3.
The ladies ‘A’ had an exact repeat of their ‘B’ teams game as Shannon Hall and Steph Konys gave them a 2-0 lead and then the away side went 3-2 up with wins from Diane Nash, Maria Perrin and Holly Meadwell and once again it took a final lady of the match showing from Chez Allcock to salvage a share of the points. Chez won 3-1 against Kerry King and averaged 18.46.
As the ladies finished with the same results, so did the men as both teams won 9-3. The men’s ‘B’ side kicked off with a man of the match game from Graham Hall as he chalked up a super 29.47 average in his straight 3-0 win over Paul Hale. The following four games were shared as Russ Albon levelled the game with a 3-0 win over Shane Sheridan then Martyn Harper restored Black Country’s lead with his 3-1 success over Aiden O’Mahoney before Josh Hook restored parity once again with a 3-1 win against Chris Hickman. By the midway point the home side were 4-2 up with a further wins from Jamie Barrowman who won 3-2 against Luke Ely and Cayden Smith who had a 3-2 win against Gary Brown.
The hosts dominated the second half winning five of the six games thanks to Gavin Smith, Dan Haden, James Hykin, Connor Whitehouse and Jamie Rollinson, Mark Kingdon put up the only resistance to Black Country’s charge.
The men’s ‘A’ side had the perfect start to their game as they stormed into a winning 7-0 lead with Rob Smith, Shane Price, Dan Nicholls, Reece Colley, Gaz Johnson, Tom Bissell and Trevor Brennon all supplying the goods. It was after the game was won that Bedfordshire got their first stripe on the board with Gareth Murray winning 4-2 against Alex Howells. Black Country then moved further ahead with wins from Paul Wells and Stephen Jones, Jones their award winner as he beat Iain Styles 4-2 with a 27.61 average.
The last two games of the day saw Bedfordshire have their best run of the game as Dara Curran and Trevor Ellacott in turn won 4-3 and 4-2 against Rich Bowen and Gavin Smith.
The overall 24-12 win sees Black Country double their lead over second in the division West of England from nine to eighteen points.

As Shropshire went into their fourth fixture of the season in division three of the UKDA National League they were riding on the back of an encouraging 22-14 home win over Breconshire in their previous game and hoping to add to that win playing away against Isle of Wight.
There were mixed fortunes for the ladies as the ‘B’ side went down 4-2 and the ‘A’ won 5-1. Jane Downey put the ‘B’ team one up with her 3-0 win over Lyn Marshall. Jane’s straight victory and 14.05 average earning her the match award at the end of the day. Shropshire’s only other winner was third on Deana Sheldon who accounted for Anne Weldon, once again with a straight 3-0 result.
The ‘A’ team stormed into an unassailable 4-0 lead as Annmarie Williams, Marie Riggs and Jenna-Louise Ball assured them of at the worst a draw before lady of the match Kelly Haverson put up the winning stripe with her 3-0 success over Kate Freeman, Kelly having a 20.04 average.
In the penultimate game Fiona Pickin was the hosts first and what turned out to be their only winner as she beat Michele Pritchard 3-1, the final result taken to 5-1 with a 3-1 win from Dianne Newton over Ann Llewellyn.
It was a great weekend for the men’s teams as the ‘B’ won their Saturday game 9-3 and the following day the ‘A’ won 10-2.
The men’s ‘B’ dropped just the one game in the first half as Martin Price got them off to a winning start when he took the match award for his 25.44 average and 3-1 win over David Spragg. Steve Lynch doubled the lead with his 3-0 success against Tony Parker and although Mark Edwards reduced the arrears with a 3-2 win over Luke Wildman it was only a temporary setback as Chris Evans, Shane Passey and Rushpal Bhogal took the score along to 5-1 by the break.
Chris Hill made it 6-1 when he won the second half opener against Greg Hailes 3-2. Darren Andrews (Isle of Wight) 3-0 win over Brian Hickman only delayed the inevitable as the win was assured in the ninth when Stuart Kendrick beat Darren Winter 3-2.
A 3-1 win over Andy Vellender by Stephen Wilkes reduced the arrears to 7-3 but with wins from Paul Harrison and Will Roberts in the final two games gave Shropshire the 9-3 victory.
As in the ‘men’s ‘B’ game the first encounter produced the man of the match in the ‘A’ game as Reece Cook-Lucas opened up with a 4-3 win over Christopher Blabey and a 26.08 average. From there on in it was all Shropshire in the first half as Jamie Webb, Andy Jervis, Richard Parker, Chris Fox and Kevin Harris all won to give the visiting team a massive 6-0 lead.
The run continued as the second half got underway with further wins from Simon Pritchard and Phil Clarke to confirm the win with a lead of 8-0.
With only four games remaining Isle of Wight had their best run as Graeme Dutton beat Dan Downey 4-3 and David Bourne won 4-2 against Jon Blakemore. The last two games of the match, day and weekend went to Shropshire, wins from John Simms and Sam Aitkens taking the final men’s ‘A’ score to 10-2 and giving them an overall 26-10 win for the weekend.
The big win sees Shropshire move up from fourth in the promotion table to second, some 27 points short of leaders Middlesex but with this the middle of the season game there is a long way to go and lots could happen as it usually does before the promotion teams are finally found.

For the second consecutive round of fixtures in the Cosmo Darts Premier Division of the UKDA’s National League the top two teams swapped places with Lancashire once again returning to pole position following their 23-13 home win over Staffordshire in game number five and Hampshire dropping to second place after losing their home tie with Essex 19-17. Lancashire with 123 points have a five points lead over Hampshire with Yorkshire holding on to third place with 115 points after their close 19-17 at Glamorgan. Essex remain fourth with 105 points and Warwickshire who lost 19-17 at London hold on to their fifth position in the table but are now some 23 points short of leaders Lancashire.
In the Andy Wheeler Fisheries Championship Division the top two teams are as you were but with leaders Dorset having their two points lead cut in half to just one point despite a 20-16 win at Northamptonshire as second placed Cleveland went just one better with a 21-15 at home against Hertfordshire. As a result of their defeat Hertfordshire dropped two places in the table to fifth on 98 points, eleven short of Dorset. Taking over in third place is Berkshire who moved up one place after a 20-16 home win over Gwent. With 103 points Berkshire are four ahead of Sussex who are fourth after their 19-17 win at Devon.
A convincing 25-11 home win over Somerset has seen Derbyshire hold on to the number one spot in the L-Style Division One with their seven points lead over their nearest rivals Suffolk remaining intact as Suffolk won by the same 25-11 margin at home to bottom of the division Worcestershire. Buckinghamshire stay in their third position on 100 points, 24 off the top after being held to an 18-18 draw at home by next to bottom of the division West Midlands. Although Worcestershire and West Midlands are in the bottom two places in the division they both have a game in hand in which they will play against each other. West Midlands are only four points short of safety but Worcestershire require seventeen points to get out of the relegation zone. Following their defeat Somerset drop two places in the table to sixth on 88 points, two fewer than Leicestershire who move up one place to fourth with an 18-18 draw at County Durham, fifth in the division Surrey are two points behind Leicestershire following their 20-16 home win over Merseyside.
As they did in division three last season Black Country appear to be running away with the division two title as they opened up an 18 points lead at the top of the table with their latest 23-13 home win over Cumbria. Second in the division West of England suffered what could be a vital 19-17 home defeat to third in the table Tyne and Wear who with 102 points are now just one point short of their hosts. It is so close in the division that only four points separate second placed West of England (103 points) from fifth placed Bedfordshire (99 points) with Nottinghamshire fourth on 101 points.
Division three have new leaders with Northumberland replacing Middlesex. Northumberland had a huge 29-7 home win over bottom of the table Isle of Wight taking their points tally to 115 points one more than second placed Middlesex who had a bye and now have a game in hand. A 21-15 home win over Pembrokeshire keeps third in the table Shropshire within four points of the leaders while Shropshire’s local rivals Salopian handed their visitors Montgomery and Radnor a 28-8 defeat to move up into fourth place with 102 points, thirteen short of Northumberland but with a game in hand on both them and Shropshire.

Fixture number five for Warwickshire County Darts Organisation in the Premier Division of the Cosmo Darts UKDA National League was an away game against London, a game that the away side were expected to win as they were some four places above their hosts in the league table and twenty-two points better off, but at the end of the day it didn’t quite work out like that.
The weekend got off to a great start for the visiting team as the ladies ‘B’ romped to a 5-1 victory. Chloe McKivett set them on their way with a straight 3-0 win over Sarah Cronin and although Dee Belcher levelled the score with her 3-1 win over Angela Jones Warwickshire took the lead again in the third when Courtney Hine got the better of Carly Townsend with another 3-0 result. The away team had their lead increased in the fourth when their lady of the match Hannah Meek beat Joanne Deamer 3-1, Hannah taking the match award for her 19.80 average.
The win was secured in the penultimate game when Nina Bolt added her 3-1 win against Jane Biggs to their tally and the 5-1 result achieved in the last game when Melanie Jones beat Lynne Biondini 3-0.
The first four games of the men’s ‘B’ match all went with the first throw advantage, Dave Hill giving Warwickshire the lead in the opener with his 4-3 win over Wayne Brown and Dean Buckland levelling the game when he won 4-2 against Pete Hughes. For a second time the away side went ahead, this time thanks to the 4-1 win by Scott Hope over Steve Holt but again the home side drew level when their Peter Gallagher won 4-2 against Martin Tonks after Tonks had gone 2-0 up.
For the first time in the game London went ahead in the fifth, John Loeber winning 4-1 against Mark Carter but it was all square at 3-3 by the midway point after Karl Reynolds won 4-2 against Craig Watkins.
As the second half got underway it looked odds on Warwickshire would take the lead for a third time when Mark Strong opened up a 3-0 lead over Nick Cocks but the home player held his nerve and went on to win 4-3. A man of the match performance from Nigel Heydon made it 4-4, Heydon winning in four straight legs against Geoff Mortimer in 19,16,18 and 21 darts including a 110 finish in the third giving him an average of 27.08.
From an all-square 4-4 position London then went on to seal victory with three wins in a row as Gene Hill beat Sam Price 4-0, Danny Brown won 4-1 against Adam Hancock and Paul Killington had a 4-2 win against Mark Tomlinson after Tomlinson had come for 1-0 down to lead 2-1.
The final game of the day saw Noah Rose reduce the arrears to 7-5 with a 4-2 win over Harry Kelly.
Marian Conway was first on for Warwickshire’s ladies ‘A’ tie and despite taking a 2-0 lead against Luci Cunningham finished on the wrong side of the 3-2 result. Caroline Pike (Warwickshire) levelled the game with her 3-1 success over Tammy MacKenzie but a 3-1 win from Debs Watling over Donna Pinch followed by a 3-2 win for Mandy Solomons against Sue Gulliver put the hosts within an ace of victory. The home team’s applause was put on hold as Natalie Gilbert not only reduced the arrears to 3-2 with her 3-0 win over Nikki Patter but at the same time earned her the match award for her 17.28 average.
The sixth and final game went the full legs distance with a 3-2 result that could easily have gone either way but it went to London’s Steph Stutley at the expense of Tammy Montgomery to give the hosts a 4-2 win.
Lee Cocks opened up for London in the first of the men’s ‘A’ games and he gave them the early lead with a 4-0 win against Jenson Walker. Steve Hine went 2-0 up against Lewis McGurn and although he was pegged back to 2-2 went on to win 4-2 to level the game. Tom Martin (Warwickshire) began well as he checked out on 117 in his first leg against Nigel Fisher and then went 3-0 up only to see Fisher take the next three legs and clinch a 4-3 win with a 148 game shot in the decider. Wayne Mynard was another Warwickshire player to take an early lead and then lose as he went 2-0 up against John Walters to finally go down 4-2. After losing the first leg to Christopher Holt Noel Grant levelled in 16 darts and with a 126 finish went ahead in 15 darts before winning the fourth leg and opening up a 3-1 lead. Holt fought back to level at 3-3 but with a 121 checkout in the seventh Grant won the game 4-3. The last game of the half also went the full seven legs distance, Jamie Hughes (Warwickshire) coming from behind against Matt Wood no fewer than three times before losing 4-3 to give London a 4-2 lead at the break.
It was more bad news for the away side as the second half kicked off with London taking an unbeatable 6-3 lead when Steve Ferguson won 4-3 against Gareth Braham and Tyler Radlett beat Lee Miller 4-2.
Kevin Dowling kept the visitors in the hunt for a draw when he won 4-2 against Tommy Sanwell and with an award winning performance from Matty Washbrooke who won 4-2 against Liam Hill in 20,15,20 and 15 darts giving him a 27.70 average a draw was still on the cards. However it was not to be as London’s Fred Box won the final game against Jack Wareing 4-1 to give the home side’s men’s ‘A’ a 7-5 win and an overall victory of 19-17 for the weekend.
Although Warwickshire narrowly lost they held on to their fifth position in the table but from trailing the leaders by eighteen points fell twenty-three behind.

With West Midlands not enjoying the best of seasons so far and languishing in a next to bottom of the table position in the L-Style Division One of the UKDA National League, an away game against third in the division Buckinghamshire did not appear to have the prospect of returning with anything that would help their cause and as the ladies ‘B’ finished with a 4-2 win for the hosts that certainly seemed to be the case. Janet Weedon gave the home team a 1-0 lead when she beat Tara Simmons-Fullwood 3-0 but with 3-1 wins for Katherine Jenkins over Lorraine Bowen and Shellbie Simmons against Geraldine Johnson the visitors opened an early 2-1 lead with Shellbie Simmons taking the match award for her 17.29 average.
That however was the end of the ladies ‘B’ challenge as Gina Freshwater beat Debbie Davies 3-0, Lisa Webb won 3-1 against Jacqueline Simmons and Jane Sobey had a 3-0 win over Kelly Doleman to give the home team a 4-2 victory.
The men’s ‘B’ chalked up an 8-4 win thanks to Rob Thompson’s 3-0 success over Carl Webb, Glen McGrandle’s award winning 3-0 success against Gary Price, with McGrandle earning the man of the match award for his 27.83 average, Mark Maiden and Sam Guest in turn winning 3-1 against Terry Winfield jnr and Mark Boardman, Jay Woodhouse was taken to a decider by George Grinsted and won 3-2, there was a 3-1 win for Kieran O’Mahoney against John Ayris, a 3-0 success for John Morris over Alex Harrison and making it eight was Dean Simmons-Fullwood with a 3-2 win against Stuart Robinson.
The ladies ‘A’ like their ‘B’ side finished on the wrong side of a 4-2 result with Kat McLean and Jacqueline Maiden the two winners, Jacqueline taking the match award with an 18-70 winning average over Ann Wakefield.
A win from the men’s ‘A’ would give the West Midlands an unexpected overall victory but it was not to be as they finished all square at six each to give a final score for the weekend of 18-18, a creditable result for the Midlanders. Man of the match for the ‘A’ team was Ryan O’Connor who won 4-2 against Leo Beechey with a 28.95 average.

The Black Country began their day in Division two of the UKDA National League top of the table with a nine points lead over second placed West of England and their home tie with Cumbria did nothing but increase that lead.
Saturday saw the ladies win 4-2 thanks to wins from Maxine Prosser, Doreen Hunt, Lacey Hughes and Grace Angell with Lacey Hughes picking up the match award after her 3-0 win over Susan Fears and her 16.89 average.
The men’s ‘B’ were held to a 6-6 draw, the score at the halfway mark standing at 3-3 with wins from man of the match Shane Sheridan (27.60), Jamie Rollinson and Cayden Smith, with Sheridan beating Brian Mandale 3-2. Second half winners were Connor Whitehouse, Ali Hickinbottom and Jamie Barrowman.
The ladies ‘A’ also finished all square after going one up through Heather Wright Steph Konya had to win the fourth to draw level and it then took a win plus an award winning performance from Tammy Chance in the final game to earn the draw, Tammy’s average 20.22.
With the overall score now delicately balanced at 13-11 in Black Country’s favour the result for the weekend all depended on the men’s ‘A’ game but there was no need for concern as they ran out with a convincing 10-2 win to give an overall victory of 23-13.
Winners for the men’s ‘A’ were Dan Nicholls, Graham Hall, Trevor Brennon, Gaz Johnson, Rob Smith, Reece Colley, Tom Bissell, Alex Howells, Paul Wells and Shane Price, anchor man Price the man of the match with a straight 4-0 win over Alan Armstrong and a superb average of 30.36.
The win extends Black Country’s lead at the top of the table to eighteen points as second placed West of England lost their home tie with Tyne and Wear 19-17.

In Division Three of the UKDA National League, prior to Shropshire’s home tie with Pembrokeshire they were second in the table and their opponents next to bottom, so the hosts were fully expecting to extend their good start to the campaign and they could not have wished for a better start as the ladies ‘B’ gave them a 5-1 win and that was after going 1-0 down when Caroline Wilcox gave the visitors the early lead. From one down Michele Pritchard restored parity with her 3-0 win over Jacqui Phoenix, her 16.34 average earning her the team’s match award. Adding to Michele’s win were Jayne Downey, Deana Sheldon, Joanne Meachin and Sara Jones.
The men’s ‘B’ after trailing 4-2 at the halfway point went on to earn a 6-6 draw, there were first half wins for Luke Wildman and Shane Passey with Chris Hill, Paul Harrison, Rushpal Bhogal and man of the match Martin Price adding their wins in the second half. Price won the penultimate game against Ben Mathias 3-0 with a 26.37 average.
The ladies ‘A’ could not emulate their ‘B’ team’s 5-1 win but nevertheless they did win 4-2 thanks to Kelly Haverson, Marie Riggs, Jenna-Louise Ball and Sophie Ward. The match award went to Jenna-Louise Ball who won 3-0 against Tracey Hawkins-Greene and averaged 18.33.
The men’s ‘A’ like their ‘B’ side finished all square at 6-6 but unlike their ‘B’ team they were level at the midway point with wins from Chris Williams, Simon Pritchard and Phil Clarke. The second half produced wins for Richard Parker, Reece Cook Lucas and Sam Aitkens who won not only the final game of the weekend but also the man of the match award for his 4-3 win over Christian Woodford and 27.08 average.
Despite the overall 21-15 win Shropshire dropped one place to third in the table as Northumberland stormed to the top with a massive 19-7 home win over Isle of Wight giving them a total of 115 points with Middlesex second, remaining on 114 points following their bye and Shropshire with 111 points just four short of the leaders.

Game five in Division Three of the UKDA National League saw Salopian play hosts to near neighbours Montgomery and Radnor, the home side keen to build on their unbeaten start to the 2022-2023 season. The ladies ‘B’ gave them the ideal start registering a 4-2 win. A brace of 3-1 victories by Paula Davies (12.84) and Sue Lane (13.81) over respective opponents Sam Lloyd and Elisa Richardson-Morris gave Salopian a 2-0 lead and although the visitors pulled back to level terms with wins from Sue Lewis and Jane Emma Martin, 3-2 wins from Claire Boyle and Racheal Williams in turn against Shelly Mulliner and Charlotte Davies-Jarman gave the home team the 4-2 result plus a second successive victory for the ladies ‘B’.
Gary Crowther (23.12) increased the overall advantage as he won the men’s ‘B’ first game against Dean Stokes 3-0 only for Salopian’s progress to be checked with back to back wins for the away team’s Jamie Major (23.13) and Ashley Orchard (19.86). Salopian replied with a 3-0 success for Ben Bevan (19.03) over David Bennett before Terry Williams restored Montgomery and Radnor’s lead with his 3-2 success against Andy Kynaston. However by the break it was level pegging as Martin Riggs beat Liam Dalton 3-2.
The second half was all one way traffic all in the home team’s favour as Paul Ashworth beat Dan Jones 3-0, Robert Paine also won 3-0 against Tony Nash as did Steven Ritchie in his game with Jake Rigney. Jamie Kynaston then won 3-2 against Neil Astley and with Adrian Logsdail beating Steve Rowlands 3-1 and Mark Jones ending the day with a 3-2 win over Frankie Costanzo the men’s ‘B’ had won 9-3 giving the hosts a 13-5 lead to take into Sunday’s games.
The ladies ‘A’ opened up with a 3-1 win for Julie Griffiths (18.41) over Heidi Davies and although Sharon Shepherd cancelled the win out when she won 3-2 against Evonne Taylor the next four games all went to Salopian as Allison Gallagher beat Jane Jones 3-2, Steph Clarke won 3-0 against Louise Davies, Sarah Roberts also won 3-0 in her encounter with Kelly Butler and Tracey Dean completed the 5-1 win with her 3-1 success against Sally Urwin.
With an 18-6 lead the men’s ‘A’ required just one winner to confirm an overall victory, but one winner was never going to be the case as they stormed to a 10-2 victory to give them a fantastic overall 28-8 win.
The Men’s ‘A’ side, still reeling from a first ever defeat in their previous outing had a point to prove and Joe Higgins (23.56) gave them the ideal start when he won 4-1 against Mark Bellerby. However the lead didn’t last long as John Williams-Jones levelled the score with his 4-2 win over Eddie Price and then Montgomery and Radnor took the lead when Tony Lloyd beat Matt Elsey 4-3. Despite the temporary setback the remainder of the first half was all Salopian and by the midway point they had opened up a 4-2 lead thanks to straight 4-0 win from John Roberts, Ash Hilditch and Paul Rowley who in turn accounted for Des Francis, Adrian Marsh and John Offa.
The 4-0 pattern continued as the second half got underway with Jon Mansell beating Dan Petty. Further wins were then added by Scott Dockerty, Mark Crutchley, Terry Nash, Ben Morgan and Kacey Jones who in turn defeated Rhys Field (4-1), Phil Austin (4-3), Tony Burton (4-0), Steve Price (4-2) and Roger Williams (4-0).
The huge victory saw Salopin move up one place in the table to fourth leaving them just thirteen points short of leaders Northumberland with a game in hand.

Prior to Christmas there were quite a few competitions the first of which saw the Weekend of Darts at Weoley Castle WMC. There were men’s and ladies knockouts for both Saturday and Sunday with a strong line-up in all four events with a total pay-out for the weekend of £7880.00.
The semi-finals of Saturday’s men’s knockout saw Luke Woodhouse lose 6-2 to William Borland and Adam Warner beat Jonny Haines 6-4. In the final William Borland lifted the title and the top prize money beating Adam Warner 6-4.
In the ladies knockout the semis saw Trina Gulliver MBE chalk up a convincing 5-1 win over Evonne Taylor and making her way into the final from the other half of the draw was Paula Jacklin who won 5-3 against Jenny Shail. The final turned out to be a very close affair with Paula Jacklin narrowly losing 5-4 to champion Trina Gulliver MBE.
In the men’s Sunday knockout Jonny Haines made his exit once again in the last four as he lost 6-2 to Lee Evans. Local Tipton man Jamie Hughes won the second of the semi-finals when he won 6-5 against Reece Colley. Lee Evans continued his unbelievable form in the final beating Jamie Hughes 6-1.
Warwickshire and England player Natalie Gilbert had a straight 5-0 win her semi-final against Sarah Roberts while the second of the semis was a repeat of the previous day when Trina Gulliver MBE and Yvonne Taylor squared up to each other but on this occasion the result was reversed as Yvonne Taylor progressed to the final with a narrow 5-4 victory.
