Lancashire rounded off the old year with a win in the UKDA National League’s Cosmo Darts Premier Division, extending their lead at the top of the table from eighteen to twenty-eight points with a 22-14 victory away to Glamorgan. As a result of their defeat Glamorgan lose their number two spot and drop to third one point short of Hampshire who move up four places in the division to second following their huge 27-9 home win over Lincolnshire. Yorkshire had a comfortable 24-12 home win over Cornwall and are currently lying fourth on seventy-eight points, one behind Glamorgan, two fewer than Hampshire and thirty short of Lancashire but they do have a game in hand on all three teams above them.

Top individual performances came from Yorkshire’s opener Peter Jacques whose 4-0 win over Cornwall’s Kev Dunstan earned him the ‘A’ team’s man of the match award for a super 32.32 average. The ‘B’ award went to Glamorgan’s Dan Beynon who had a close 4-3 win and 30.55 average against Lancashire’s Mark Roberts. For the ladies the ‘A’ award went to Lincolnshire’s Trina Gulliver MBE who won 3-1 against Hampshire’s Becca Edwards and averaged 26.03 while Warwickshire’s Natalie Gilbert took the ‘B’ award for a 24.27 average and 3-2 win over Dorset’s Cathy Campbell.

Game four brought about no change at the top of the Andy Wheeler Fisheries Championship Division with London holding on to pole position winning 22-14 at Sussex to extend their lead from five to twelve points over their nearest rivals. Kent lost their number two spot after suffering a 21-15 defeat at home to Cheshire and drop one place to third with eighty-three points some fourteen short of London while Northamptonshire move up one place to replace Kent in the second place despite losing 19-17 at Hertfordshire who with sixty-three points move up from ninth to fourth in the division. Derbyshire, who were formerly fourth had their fixture at Cambridgeshire cancelled and as a result drop down to ninth in the table.

Award winners for the Championship Division were for the men’s ‘A’ Northamptonshire’s Rex Cole who had a 4-0 win over Hertfordshire’s Ricky Evans and averaged 32.32 while Shaun Walshe (Cheshire) took the ‘B’ award for his 4-3 win against Jake White (Kent) and 29.20 average. The ladies ‘A’ award went to Cleveland’s Claire Stamper who had a straight 3-0 win in her tie with West Midlands Gemma Barrett, Claire having a 24.64 average in the process. Vicky Rannow (Hertfordshire) was the ladies ‘B’ top player, her 3-0 win and 21.78 average in her game with Northamptonshire’s Lexi Jayne Rooksby earning her the award.

After wins in their opening three games of the season in the L-Style Division One of the UKDA National League Black Country were held to an 18-18 draw in game four when they played away against Merseyside who prior to the fixture were next to bottom of the division with a game in hand on the majority of teams above them. The draw has seen Black Country’s lead slashed from six to one slender point with Gwent reducing the arrears with their 21-15 home win over Buckinghamshire. Leicestershire were formerly third but having a bye saw them drop a huge six places to ninth, their fifty-eight points just three more than bottom placed Devon. Suffolk’s big 27-9 home win over Somerset has seen them move up one place to third with eighty-six points, seven fewer  than the leaders but eight more than fourth placed Berkshire who had a 22-14 home win over Gwynedd.

The top ‘A’ team average of 34.00 went to Gwent’s Peter Johns who had a 4-2 win over Buckinghamshire’s Darren Fyffe, Suffolk’s Nathan Potter not far behind with a 33.97 average and 4-0 win against Jason Woodyard (Somerset). For the division one ‘B’ games the top average was shared with Richard Stride (Berkshire) and Martyn Moore (Suffolk) both recording 31.31 averages. It was Suffolk once again that claimed the ladies ‘A’ award as their Jo Locke won 3-0 against Somerset’s Kate Hulme and averaged 23.12. The ‘B’ award went to Kirsty Gibbs (Buckinghamshire) who beat Hayley Mathews (Gwent) 3-0 with a 21.47 average.

Salopian have been ousted from their pole position in Division Two following their first defeat in four fixtures when they lost 20-16 away to Worcestershire who with the win hold on to third place with eighty-nine points, two short of new leaders Middlesex who had a 22-14 home win over Surrey. Wiltshire remain second, they had a 20-16 win at West of England to leave them just one point behind Middlesex. Salopian’s defeat sees them drop to fourth however they are on the same eighty-nine points as their third placed victors.

A 32.06 average plus a 4-1 result against Surrey’s Darren Bryant earned Martin Lukeman (Middlesex) the men’s ‘A’ award while the ladies ‘A’ award went to Worcestershire’s Zoe Jones who won 3-1 against Salopian’s Evonne Taylor. Both the men’s and ladies ‘B’ awards went to Norfolk players James Goldsmith taking the men’s and Nikki Goldsmith the ladies.

Breconshire have extended their lead at the top of the UKDA National League Division Three table after adding a 23-13 home win over Pembrokeshire to their account. With a total of 105 points Breconshire have a lead of fourteen over second placed Cumbria who moved up one place in the table following their massive 27-9 win at Montgomery and Radnor. Formerly second in the division Northumberland suffered a 19-17 defeat at Wirrall and drop to third nineteen points off the top while Wirall hold on to fourth place and are now just one point behind third placed Northumberland, but twenty short of the leaders.

As far as match awards go for Division Three only two counties were involved as Pembrokeshire, despite their heavy defeat won both the men’s ‘A’ and men’s ‘B’ awards which were won respectively by Marshall James, with a fantastic 35.16 average and Stu Davies who averaged 28.90. The ladies awards went to Cumbria’s Ann Scholey who scooped the ‘A’ award for her 21.47 average while the ‘B’ award was shared by Cumbria’s Mary Paine and Val Hargrave who both had an 18.79 average.

Warwickshire County Darts Organisation have finally broken their spell of three consecutive defeats in the UKDA National League’s Cosmo Darts Premier Division by winning their last fixture of 2023 a home tie against Dorset 21-15 to move them up three places in the divisional table to fifth on sixty-nine points, just eleven short of second placed Hampshire.

The ladies ‘B’ side got the weekend off to a flying start with a tremendous 5-1 victory all begun by Melanie Jones who opened the game up with a straight 3-0 win over Donna Marbatt. Doubling the hosts lead was Chloe McKivett-Saunders with her 3-1 success over Bev Scarff and assuring the home side of a least a draw was Angela Jones who accounted for Lorraine Woodrow with a similar 3-1 win. The winning stripe was put up on the board as early as the fourth game when Nina Bolt beat Sarah Chick 3-0, her team’s second similar win. Unusually Natalie Gilbert found herself trailing 2-0 to Cathy Campbell but she not only hung on in there but went on to win 3-2 with winning legs of 17,23 and 19 darts and at the same time earned the teams match award for her 24.27 average. Denise Keyte came from behind twice against Peri Yarrow but it was not enough to avoid a narrow 3-2 defeat and Dorset getting their one and only winner.

The first four games of the men’s ‘B’ match all went against the first throw advantage as Warwickshire’s Samuel Whittaker chalked up the home team’s first win when he beat Nigel Lamb 4-2. Mark Martin came from 1-0 down to lead 3-1 against Steve Earley but it was Dorset’s Earley who won the last three legs for a 4-3 victory. The home side took the lead for a second time in the third when Mark Carter handed out a 4-0 whitewash to Matt Goodier, but once again the score was levelled as Richard Wright beat Karl Reynolds 4-2 after Reynolds had won the first leg and levelled the game in the fourth. At this point the sequence was broken as Dorset won the fifth encounter when their Richard Perry won 4-1 against Lee Miller but a man of the match performance from Warwickshire’s Adam Hancock put the scoreline level at 3-3 at the midway point. Hancock went one up against Carl Beattie in 19 darts and although Beattie levelled the game in 21 darts Hancock then romped to a 4-1 with winning legs in 13,16 and 15 darts giving him a 4-1 win and an award winning average of 29.70.

The visitors were first off the mark as the second session got underway, James Green winning 4-2 against Mark Strong and with Matt Yarrow coming from 2-0 down against Noah Rose and going on to win 4-3 Dorset were leading 5-3. The away side then moved to within an ace of victory as Richie Gomm won a close game with Scott Hope 4-3, they then looked as though they would sew the win up in the tenth when Mark Porter opened up a 2-0 lead over William Naylor, however Naylor then won the third and with winning legs of 18,21 and 17 darts won the last three legs to secure a 4-3 win and keep the home side in the hunt. It was all over in the penultimate game when Liam Blakeley beat Dave Hill 4-2 before the final score was taken to 7-5 in favour of Dorset when anchor-man Martin Tonks (Warwickshire) won 4-1 against Matt Read.

Going into Sunday’s games Warwickshire held a narrow 10-8 lead, Courtney Hine extending that advantage when she began the ladies ‘A’ match with a 3-2 win over Sally Old and at the end of the day it was Courtney who took the match award for her 19.62 average. The lead was short lived as Sam Kirton won 3-0 against Wendy Adams to level for Dorset only to see the hosts go ahead again in the third when Donna Pinch beat Trina Perry 3-1. A draw was assured in the fourth when Caroline Pike added her 3-2 win over Julie Boggust to Warwickshire’s tally but with the final two games going to Dorset’s Macie Woodrow and Suzy Trickett who in turn won 3-2 against Kirsty Hinchcliffe and Marian Conway, the final score ended all-square at 3-3.

With only the men’s ‘A’ result to be added to the running total a draw would be enough for an overall victory, but even that didn’t look too promising as the match got underway with opener Jamie Hughes losing 4-0 to Tommy Morris and Samuel Price after winning the first leg losing 4-1 to Scott Mitchell. Jack Wareing went 1-0 and 2-1 down to Jordan Sharpe but fought back to earn a 4-2 win and with a 4-1 success for Jamie Atkins against Dale Masterman the score was level at 2-2. Despite trailing 2-0 to Owen Emmett-Bowden, Noel Grant went on to win 4-2 to give Warwickshire the lead for the first time in the game but it was level-pegging by the break as Dorset’s man of the match Dan Perry (30.11) won 4-2 against Gareth Braham.

As the second half kicked-off Steve Hine restored parity with his 4-2 win over Mark Grimes and with a 4-1 win for Mark McGeeney over Ricky King the home side were ahead once again. Kevin Dowling (Warwickshire) took his namesake Kevin Smith to the wire but narrowly lost 4-3 before Nigel Heydon’s 4-2 win against Robbie Martin opened up a 6-4 lead for the hosts. The desired winning result was achieved in the eleventh when Wayne Mynard beat Rob Channing 4-0 before Warwickshire’s man of the match Matty Washbrooke brought the curtain down for the weekend with a superb 4-1 win over Ryan Gowans in 15,14,18 and 15 darts giving him a fantastic 31.10 average, all that after Gowans had won the first leg in 15 darts.

The 8-4 win by the men’s ‘A’ team took the final score for the weekend to a much needed 21-15 win for Warwickshire giving relief all round for the entire squad. Warwickshire’s season can now get underway.

With one win and one defeat in the Andy Wheeler Fisheries Championship Division of the UKDA National League West Midlands were hoping for a second win in their away game at Cleveland to lift them up the table and away from the relegation zone but the weekend didn’t have the best of starts as the ladies ‘B’ slumped to their third consecutive defeat. The game was won by the hosts before West Midlands got a stripe on the board as Dawn Winn, Vanessa Dickinson, Shirley Witten and Leanne Witten in turn won against Debbie Davies (3-0), Sarah Maybury (3-0), Crysta Wilcox (3-2) and Jodie Rowlands (3-2). Shellbie Simmons was West Midlands one and only winner as in the penultimate encounter she beat Jessica Fredericks 3-2 to take the match award with her 15.70 average. The final game went to Cleveland when Mia Simmonds beat Jacqueline Simmons 3-0 to give a final score of 5-1 to the home team.

The men’s ‘B’ had a far more favourable result as they won all six of the first half games. Ryan Locker got the proceedings underway with a 4-1 win over Mick Costello, Chris Stanley doubling the visitors lead with a 4-1 success over Liam Green-Sherlock. There were 4-2 wins for Paul Price and Jack Aldridge as in turn they defeated Adam Cope and Graham Palmer before West Midlands man of the match Ryan O’Connor beat Jamie Owens 4-3 to clinch the award with his 28.40 average.

As the second half began Cleveland chalked up their first winner in the shape of John Purdy who beat Luke Griffiths 4-0 and with a 4-2 win for David Coverdale over Adam Teasdale the home team were back in the game but still trailing 6-2. Kieran O’Mahoney put the game beyond Cleveland’s reach when he added the magical seventh win defeating Martin Bulman 4-2 before Cleveland got their third winner, this time it was a 4-1 success for their Cameron Nicholson over Karl Hughes. However that was to be the home team’s last winner as Alex Simmons beat Garath Hayes 4-3 and Ian Stanton took the final score to 9-3 for the West Midlands men’s ‘B’ with his 4-2 win over Steven Wilkinson.

The ladies ‘A’ like their ‘B’ side had lost their previous two games 4-2 and were looking for their first win of the campaign, but it was not to be as again like their ‘B’ side they also lost 5-1. The home team stormed into a 5-0 lead thanks to their Ann Marie Potts, Amy Thomas, Sam Dixon, Carla Boyes and Claire Stamper who defeated respective opponents Claire Hobbs (3-0), Tara Simmons-Fullwood (3-2), Jodie Rowlands (3-2), Katherine Jenkins (3-1) and Gemma Barrett (3-0), Claire Stamper taking the hosts match award for her super 24.64 average. The West Midlands match award went to anchor player Jacqueline Maiden who was their sole winner when she won 3-2 against Frances Elwick with a 16.13 average.

Trailing overall 13-11 the West Midlands required a second win in a row from the men’s ‘A’ to get anything out of the game but it was looking a little bleak as they began the game with two losses, Michael Baker losing 4-2 to Lewis Whitehead and Gavin Baker going down 4-3 to Dave Hunter. West Midlands long standing veteran Ian Jones stopped the rot when he beat Chris Sheraton 4-2 only to see Cleveland’s two games buffer restored in the fourth when Rob Grundy won 4-2 against Dean Simmons-Fullwood. Nevertheless by the midway point it was level-pegging at 3-3 as Richard Platt won 4-0 against Barry Davies and Darren Williams beat John Watson 4-1.

The second half began as did the first with the home side winning the opening two games, Geoffrey Burdon and Kevin Naunton both winning 4-0 in turn against Ash Khayat and Kevin Bambrick. On this occasion it took a man of the match performance from Rob Thompson to put a halt to the Cleveland charge as he won 4-1 against Ray Hutchinson with a tremendous 32.00 average. As if inspired by Thompson’s win the last three players for the West Midlands Ben Johnson, Owen Maiden and Shaun Carroll in turn won against Mark Muckian (4-2), Paul Allen (4-0) and Brian Henderson (4-3) to give the away side a 7-5 victory and take the final overall score to an 18-18 draw.

After wins in their opening three games Black Country’s fourth fixture in the L-Style Division one of the UKDA National League was an away tie with Merseyside. Going into the fixture Black Country were riding high at the top of the table with seventy-four points, six more than their nearest rivals Gwent while their hosts were lying next to bottom of the table on thirty-eight points but with a game in hand.

Nothing could separate the two team in Saturday’s games as the ladies ‘B’ finished level at 3-3, and the men 6-6, Merseyside taking the lead in the ladies as their Lynn Anderson beat Natalie Hulson 3-2 and Sandra Rule won by the same margin against Lacey Hughes. Although Doreen Hunt pulled on back for the Black Country when she won 3-2 against Adele Mulligan, the hosts had their two games buffer restored in the fourth when Julie Whelan beat Angie Carroll, once again with a 3-2 result. Abbey Hunt’s 3-1 win over Gill Jones reduced the arrears to 3-2 and the draw was secured when Black Country’s lady of the match Grace Angell won the final tussle against Janet Sorrell 3-0 with an 18.79 average.

The men’s ‘B’ got off to a flyer, Mark Rollinson winning the opener against Barry Bowes 3-2 followed by two 3-1 wins from Gareth Johnston and Ian Townsend who in turn accounted for Phil Lloyd and Peter Robbins, Townsend’s win and 26.84 average earning him the team’s match award. Unfortunately from 3-0 up by the break it was all-square at 3-3 as Steve Gow beat Connor Whitehouse 3-2, Tony Brown won 3-1 against Wayne Hobday and John Brammeld won by the same 3-1 scoreline against Mark Jones.

As the second session got underway the hosts went ahead for the first time in the game when Clive Rule won 3-1 against Al Smith, however the lead didn’t last long as Alan Hickinbottom and Sam Bissell beat respective opponents Philip Bennett and Alan Magee 3-1 to give Black Country a 5-4 advantage. Parity was restored once again in the tenth when, for the hosts Ben Jones won 3-0 against Luke Wildman. John Green kept a possible win alive in the penultimate game when his 3-1 win over Paul Smith assured at least a draw with the win hinging on the final game between Chris Long (Merseyside) and Shane Sheridan. The outcome was a 6-6 draw as Long won his game against Sheridan 3-0.

Viv Cullimore (Merseyside) won the first of the ladies ‘A’ games when she beat Maxine Prosser 3-2 and with a 3-0 win for Vicki Lloyd over Heather Wright the home side were 2-0 up. Chez Allcock reduced that lead to 2-1 when she won 3-1 against Tracy Morris, only to see Jane Robson put the win for the Black Country out of reach when she beat Tammy Chance 3-1. Sarah-Jane Parker kept hopes of a draw alive for the Black Country when she not only won 3-2 against Emma Barlow but also won the lady of the match award for her 17.93 average. Alas a draw was not to be as Merseyside’s Janet Hardman won the final game against Grace Angell 3-0 to give the hosts a 4-2 win.

With only the men’s ‘A’ result to be added to the total an 8-4 win was required to keep intact Black Country’s 100% win record and that looked to be on the cards as Dan Nicholls and Jamie Rollinson put them two up when in turn they won 4-2 against Terry Roach and Dan Nuttie. That however was to be the only two wins of the first half as Kevin Lloyd, Lee Palfreyman, Dave Harnick and Joseph Palfreyman beat respective opponents Rob Smith (4-0), Dan Homer (4-1), George Willetts (4-2) and Mark Jones (4-3).

Black Country’s man of the match Martin Price began the second half with a straight 4-0 win over John Prescott and a 27.83 average. Rich Bowen, Trev Brennan, Shane Price and Paul Wells were all taken to a deciding leg, all of them winning 4-3 in turn against Tom Lockyer, Dave Richards, Mike Addison and Robbie Gorst to seal victory, now leading 7-4. Unfortunately the overall win could not be achieved as in the last game Merseyside’s Patrick Williams won 4-0 against Tom Bissell to give a final score of 7-5 and an overall result of 18-18.

Despite being held to a draw Black Country hold on to pole position but their ninety-three points are now just one more than second placed Gwent who won their home game with Buckinghamshire 21-15.

Salopian went into their fourth fixture away to Worcestershire in Division Two of the UKDA National League top of the table on seventy-three points and guarding a 100% win record with their hosts placed third on sixty-six points, so a win was vital for both teams.

The home team got the better start in the ladies ‘B’ match as Maggie Deakin won 3-1 against Rachael Mooney, Lynne Arnold beat Chloe Ames 3-2 and as early as the third game the hosts were assured of at least a draw when Jackie Mackenzie made it 3-0 with her 3-1 success over Julie Griffiths. Salopian’s lady of the match Sue Lane pulled one back in the fourth when she won a close encounter with Steph Konya 3-2 with a 17.23 average. Worcestershire’s award winner Chloe Luscott (18.79) chalked up the necessary fourth stripe to secure the win for the home side as she defeated Claire Boyle 3-0 before Hayley McGuinness made the result a little more respectable for Black Country when she beat Kim Jones 3-2 to take the final score to 4-2 in favour of Worcestershire.

As in the ladies ‘B’ game Worcestershire’s men’s ‘B’ once again had the better start as Jack Higgins put them one up when he beat Rob Trumper 3-1 and their man of the match Paul Wallace (25.05) made it 2-0 with his 3-0 win against Shaun Price. Jacob Perrins was taken to a decider by Andy Pullen but his 3-2 result gave Salopian their first winner and him the match award for his 24.30 average before the hosts won another two-in-a-row thanks to James Woodhouse who beat Glyn Thomas 3-1 and Paul Bailey who had a 3-2 win over Eddie Austin. The half ended with a second win for the visitors as Rowan Price won 3-1 against Jack Harrison.

Trailing 4-2 the away side needed to step up a gear and that was what happened as Jason Davies won 3-2 against Chris Jennings and James Mansell levelled the score at 4-4 with his 3-1 win over Dave Honey. The home team forged ahead again in the ninth when Ian Oliver won 3-0 against Dean Rogers only to see the score levelled at 5-5 when Steven Ritchie beat Peter Wright 3-2. From there on in Worcestershire went on to win 7-5 as Mark Smith beat Jay Adams 3-1 and Phil Rooney won the final game against Ian Evans 3-2.

Tracey Dean gave Salopian the first win in the ladies ‘A’ match as she accounted for Sophie Hadley with a 3-1 result. Jenny Shail levelled for Worcestershire with her 3-2 success against Emma Tapp and then the host’s lady of the match Zoe Jones (24.74) put her team 2-1 up with her 3-1 win over Evonne Taylor. From 2-1 down the away side then went 3-2 up as the visitors award winner Sarah Roberts (22.91) defeated Mandy Morgan 3-1 and Steph Clarke won 3-2 against Claire Dicken. The sixth and final game saw Jenny Jones win 3-1 against Kate Titley to put the final score at 3-3.

With only the men’s ‘A’ result to be added Worcestershire were leading 14-10 but that lead was reduced as the men’s ‘A’ match got underway with Matt Elsey winning 4-3 against Ian Mackenzie and Mark Crutchley beating Tom Garfield 4-2. After Salopian’s two games win it was then the turn of the hosts to win two-in-a-row, Nick Evans taking out Ben Bevan with a 4-2 result and Ant Butler winning 4-3 against Terry Nash. The two-in-a-row pattern continued as Jamie Kynaston and Jon Mansell rounded off the half with their respective 4-3 and 4-2 wins over Lee Furneaux and Jakob Webster to put the away side 4-2 up at the break.

The second half continued in the same vein as the home side rattled off two more wins to level the score at 4-4, Phil Whitlock winning 4-3 against Ben Morgan and Luke Smith, Worcestershire’s man of the match beating Paul Rowley 4-0 and averaging 30.83. Game number nine saw the visitors take the lead once again as Gary Crowther added his 4-3 win over Richard Hosey to their total, but it was level pegging once again in the tenth when Terence Webster beat Ash Hilditch 4-2. Keeping the win still within reach was Salopian’s man of the match Eddie Price whose 4-1 win against Elliott Hancox not only took his side to a 6-5 lead but also earned him the match award for his 28.70 average. The end result was a 6-6 draw as George Connolly rounded off the weekend’s proceedings with a 4-1 win over John Roberts to give Worcestershire an overall 20-16 victory.

The defeat cost Salopian the divisional leadership and saw them drop to fourth in the table with their victors third, both on the same eighty-nine points as each other, which leaves them just two points short of new leaders Middlesex whose ninety-one points is just one to the good on second placed Wiltshire.

Going into their fourth fixture, an away game against Bedfordshire in division three of the UKDA National League, Shropshire were hoping to improve on their seventh place in the table and add to their previous two wins in three games and they could not have wished for a much better start as the ladies ‘B’ romped to a 5-1 victory. Despite the big win it was the home side Bedfordshire who were first off the mark as Tammy Fenna won 3-0 against Trish Ball, however that was to be the home teams sole winner as Jo Meachin and Kelly Millington in turn won 3-2 against Jo Dilley and Sally Green. On at number four was Shropshire’s lady of the match Michele Pritchard who had a straight 3-0 win over Irene Maddy with an 18.56 average. Kirstie Millington was another straight legs winner as she beat Netty Hockley 3-0 and with a final 3-1 win from Sandra Beardsmore against Lol Tester the 5-1 win was secured.

It was not such a great start for the men’s ‘B’ as Ryan Tharby and Pete Brown put the hosts two up when they both won 3-2 against respective opponents Chris Evans and Clark Cook. Andre Knox, with his 3-2 win over Lee Jones stopped the Bedfordshire charge and with a man of the match game from Kevin Harris in his 3-1 win and 25.61 average against Paul Smith the match was level at 2-2. The last two games of the first half both went to a deciding leg with Shropshire’s Dave Lucas and Stewart Pryce winning 3-2 in turn against Troy Beavis and Oli Ellis.

Shropshire’s 4-2 lead was reduced as the second half got going, Brian Reed winning 3-1 against Brett Cooper but with 3-1 wins from both Anthony Whitehouse and Paul Harrison against Micky Reed and Keith Hill the away side were in an unbeatable 6-3 lead. Ben Hazel kept the home teams hopes alive for a draw when he won 3-1 against John Simms but a similar 3-1 win for Shropshire’s Rob Pitt over Pete Dilley chalked up the magical seventh game winning stripe on the board for the visitors. The last result went to the hosts as Joel Salerno beat Adam Thackray 3-1 to take the final score to 7-5 in Shropshire’s favour.

It turned out to be a fantastic weekend for the ladies as the ladies ‘A’ emulated their ‘B’ team’s result by also winning 5-1 and getting the ball rolling were Sophie Ward and Nicola Ball who in turn won 3-0 and 3-1 against Helen Styles and Donna Hunt. A 3-0 win for Jenny Bozier over Marie Riggs reduced the arrears only to see Sarah Williams win 3-1 against Fran Bent and Dianne Newton beat Shirley Williams 3-0 to put the away side into a winning 4-1 lead. The 5-1 result was rounded off with a lady of the match performance from Jenna-Louise Ball who had a 3-1 win over Maria Perrin with an 18.02 average.

A 10-2 defeat from the men’s ‘A’ team would now be enough for Shropshire to obtain an overall victory as they went into the game with a huge 17-7 lead. Bedfordshire won the opener as Gareth Murray won 4-3 against Sam Aitkens, Rob Pierce replying for Shropshire as he won by the same 4-3 margin against Philip Price to guarantee at the worst a share of the spoils for his team mates. The home side went 2-1 up in the third when Steve Richardson beat Steve Lynch 4-2 but the overall victory for the weekend was achieved in the fourth when Shropshire’s man of the match Andrew Jervis won 4-1 against Trevor Ellacott with a 27.84 average. For the first time in the game the visitors took the lead in the fifth when Andy Vellender beat Luke Ely 4-3 taking the score to 3-2, but it was level pegging at the break as Chris Dilley added his 4-2 win over Reece Cook-Lucas the home teams tally.

The second half was more-or-less Bedfordshire as first on Paddy Clowery won 4-2 against Phil Clarke, Dara Curran beat Jon Blakemore 4-0, Wayne Bloomfield just got the 4-3 edge on Josh Pickett and chalking up the winning seventh game for the hosts was Paul Hale with his 4-1 defeat of Brian Hickman. Paul Bailey made it 8-3 to the hosts with his 4-2 win over Richard Parker before Shropshire got their one and only winner from the second half Chris Fox who accounted for Barry Davies with a 4-1 result to put the final score at 8-4 to Bedfordshire, but the all-important weekend result was a 21-15 win for Shropshire to move them up one place in the divisional table to sixth with seventy-two points.
