The Shirley Red Lion Premier League have completed their fifth season and this season’s champion is Mick Gorst. There were mixed results for Gorst as he rounded off his fixture card he lost 3-1 to third placed Steve Sidwell then finished in style with a 3-0 success against fourth placed Paul Higgins.

Runner up Mick Bown won his last game of the season against Steve Heeks 3-1 to give him a total of 51 points four fewer than Gorst. Sidwell took the third place from Higgins by one single leg as both players ended the campaign with 50 points.

After all the domestic fixtures were completed the league staged their doubles knockout which saw Clive Thomas and Julian Harris take the title with a final win over Mick Bown and Mark Cater.

Warwickshire played their final home fixture of the season in the premier division of the BDO Inter County Championships against Essex, although they lost by the narrow margin of 19-17 they actually moved up one place in the table. With a total of 154 points Warwickshire replaced Cambridgeshire in fourth place, they have 151 points.

Saturday’s games saw the ladies finish all square at 3-3 with Angela Jones (21.85) their top player, but the men went down 7-5, Matthew Edgar (27.64) taking their match award.

The ladies ‘A’ team have not had the best of seasons their 4-2 defeat being their sixth reversal of the season, their highlight was again the return to top form by Trina Gulliver whose superb 26.37 average earned her a sixth award of the season. The men’s ‘A’ team provided the only real bright spot of the weekend their 7-5 win aided by the award winning Dean Stewart who had a 29.40 average.

West Midlands in division two of the BDO Inter County Championships moved another step closer to promotion to division one when they chalked up their seventh win in eight games returning from their away game against Cumbria with a 20-16 result to put them 11 points clear of third placed Berkshire and only four points behind leaders London who they play next in their final game of the season.

Both ladies teams won 4-2 with Sarah Roberts (20.16) taking the ‘A’ team’s award for the sixth time this season and Samantha Maiden the ‘B’ team’s winner with a 19.08 average.

Like the ladies the men’s teams also had the same result as they both finished all square at 6-6, taking the awards for the men were Mark Craddock (29.56) for the ‘A’ and for the ‘B’ Robert Smith (28.08).

There was a dramatic end to the Four Oaks and District League season as Boldmere St Mikes, unbeaten in the first fourteen matches lost 7-2 at home to third placed Golden Hind, their defeat seeing them surrender the first division title to The Beehive who beat Old Oscott WMC by the same 7-2 margin to become the new champions.

In the second division Bishop Vesey after going 4-3 up against The Lions lost the final two games and the match to extinguish any hopes they had of finishing top of the table.

Golden Hind Arrows playing against Erdington Arrows trailed 4-2 but went on to win the last three games to ensure they took the title with 28 points four more than runners up Bishop Vesey..

The only 180’s this week came from the encounter between Red Lion and Old Oscott Arrows with M.Gaughan (Red Lion) and A.Lea (Old Oscott Arrows) hitting one each.

The BDO have announced that the Winmau Centre in the Wolverhampton Indoor Community Sports Stadium will host the play off for their World Trophy. The event will take place on Saturday 7th May at the stadium in Racecourse Road, Wolverhampton, WV6 0QU. Registration will be up to 11.00am with match play commencing at 12 noon there will be four men and two ladies that will qualify for the main event in Manchester.

Cup semi finals week in the South Birmingham League and in the Roy Parry Cup there were wins for Erdington Members Club and Mackadown Social who in turn both won 6-3 against Coleshill Social and Banbury Flights.

The last four play-off for the Roy Parry Consolation Cup saw The C’s win a close 5-4 game against The Gate while Family Tree had a more comfortable 6-3 success against The Bell.

The Forest of Arden Winter League staged the finals of their Presidents Cup and Consolation Cup, in the former Journeys End from division one beat second division leaders Highwood KB 6-3 to take the title and in the Consolation final there was another division one victory over division two opponents when Crown Arrows won 5-4 against Highwood Arms.

With only a handful of rearranged fixtures to play in the Kings Norton League and Court Oak with a perfect 29 wins from as many games acclaimed as champions the battle is on for the runners up spot which could go to any one of four teams. Hillyfields who are currently second with 46 points have completed their programme while Toby Jug ‘A’ and Kings Norton RBL are both on 44 points, have one game to play and are two points behind Hillyfields with a superior average. Stirchley United are fifth they also have 44 points and although their average is not as good as the three teams above them they have two games to play and could take the second spot by two clear points.

Week three in the Winmau Centre Monday Night League and The Untouchables have extended their lead at the top of the table to 22 points following their 38-10 win over Full Montie. Despite a 25-23 win against Is It In 3 Yam Yams and A.Stokie have dropped from second to fourth being replaced in the number two spot by The Outcasts who won their tie with Here For The Beer 39-9 to give them 107 points.

What’s The Point are third they had a huge 42-6 win against Where’s My team to leave them six points behind Outcasts.

It was a good week for Keep It In The Family as they recorded their first win of the current season, 42-6 at the expense of Double Trouble.

There were wins for the top four teams in the Shirley and District Monday Night League leaders Highwood making it eleven straight wins with their 7-2 success away to Shirley Legionnaires who were the only losers in the top five teams. Shirley Red Lion are just two points adrift of Highwood after an 8-1 win at Sharmans Cross and a further two points behind are Crown Jewels who handed their hosts Shirley Spartac a 9-0 whitewash.

High Acres were the only losers in the top eight teams going down 5-4 at home to Ashwood who are placed fifth on the same 38 points as second placed Britannia but with an inferior average.

A 6-3 home win over Rose and Crown has taken White Horse to an unbeaten run of ten games in the Cradley Tuesday Night League and given them a four point’s lead over second placed Crown (Station Road) who had a close 5-4 win at Wheatsheaf.

After the leading pair come three teams Members Club, Brickmakers Arms and White Swan all on 14 points, Brickmakers having played one game fewer than their rivals.

Prince of Wales have a two points lead over Bulls Head ‘A’ (Polesworth) in division one of the Pip Club League following their 6-3 win at Belgrave Club, Bulls Head were 8-1 winners at Wigginton Arms and have played ten games compared to the leaders having played eleven.

In division two top side Winning Post had a bye this week and Globe Trotters in second place drew to within two points of them when they won 14-4 at Bulls Head ‘B’ (Polesworth) both teams now having played nine games.

Reigning champions of the Brierley Hill Monday Night League Dudley Sports ‘C’ are well on track to retaining their title making it eleven straight wins with a 6-3 home success against their local rivals Dudley Sports ‘B’ and keeping them four points to the good on second placed Pensnett Liberal Club who won by the same 6-3 margin away to Old Star.

The Bell were the only losers in the top five teams losing 7-2 at High Acres who are fifth in the table on the same 14 points as Bell but having played one game more.

A shock for the leaders of the Hilltop Friendly Tuesday Night League’s Dewdrop this week as they lost 5-2 away to Merry-Go-Round who are four places and four points behind them in the table, however they remain in pole position but now share it with The Vine whose 5-2 win at new Talbot puts them level on points and average with Dewdrop. Old Hop Pole are also on the same 14 points as the leading duo, they like their rivals also won 5-2 in their away game against Island Inn.

After the opening eleven games in the Rowley Monday Night League just two points separate the top three teams, Springfield Social lead the way with a perfect score of 22 points their latest victory being 8-1 at Haden Cross ‘Z’ who are fourth in the table. A 6-3 win at Britannia keeps Ex Serviceman’s ‘A’ in second place with a slightly better average then The Bell who had a close 5-4 home win over Whiteheath Tavern, both Ex Servicman’s and Bell are on 20 points.

A 6-1 win over fifth placed Bilston Conservative Club by The Nutan maintains the status quo at the top of the Bilston and District League as second placed Tilted Barrel won by the same margin in their game at Rocket Pool leaving Nutan eight points clear of Tilted Barrel and with a game in hand. Third placed Lanesfield RBL’s 4-3 win against Darlaston Conservative Club keeps them on the same 44 points as Tilted Barrel but from one game less than their rivals.

Ashmore Inn suffered their first defeat of the opening three games in division one of the Wolverhampton Tuesday Night League when they lost 5-2 at home against The Cabin who had lost their previous two games. Replacing Ashmore in second place is Bradmore ‘B’ who were 5-2 winners against Roebuck leaving them and Ashmore plus Gilberts Bar and Wednesfield Conservative Club all two points behind Riley’s ‘C’ who head the table with an unbeaten six points after beating Bradmore ‘A’ 4-3.

In division two only average separates Dog and Partridge and Riley’s ‘A’ both on six points from their three games after the former won 6-1 against The Bull and the latter 4-3 at Pavilion.

Crown ‘A’ have opened up a massive 21 points lead at the top of the West Midlands Men’s Super League following their 5-0 win at ECC. Landywood ‘A’ are second, they won 4-1 away to Orange Tree to give them 83 points as have third placed Bridgtown Social who had a 5-0 win at Crown ‘B’.
