Businesses in the West Midlands are to get the chance to go head to head in a team-building darts league.
The Corporate League is being launched by Wolverhampton’s Winmau Darts Centre, with a prize-winning monthly competition that will allow local business teams to compete for honours in the country’s fastest growing sport.
The centre, which hosts a wide range of national and local darts contests, already runs corporate darts days for individual companies, but says it is now getting requests for firms to meet each other.
“The league is all about team playing, but is fun, while requiring concentration to be a winner,” said darts centre owner Dharam (Tam) Jagpal. “We are hoping to launch the league shortly”, he added.
Companies can register their interest on [email protected] to find out more about darts on wolverhamptonsportsarena.co.uk or telephone 01902-420827 any day after 11.30 am.

The centre have played off two more of their increasingly popular first Thursday in the month knockouts and winning the September one was Mick Baker who put a stop to the run of three previous wins by Derbyshire’s Matt Padgett.
In the semi finals Baker came up against Kevin Lane and won 5-3 while from the other half of the draw Sam Guest defeated had a very close 5-4 success against Jamie Barrowman. The final between Guest and Baker saw the latter clinch the £100 top prize with a 6-4 verdict.
The October knockout was a case of déjà vu with the top prize once again for an amazing fourth time in five knockouts going once again to Matt Padgett and astonishingly yet again for a third time his final opponent was Warwickshire’s Ashley Hykin. The result of the final on this occasion was the most clear cut so far as Padgett took the top prize with a 6-0 margin.
In the last four play off the two losing semi finalists were the two finalists from the previous knockouts, previous winner Mick Baker this time going out 5-1 to matt Padgett while Sam Guest lost 5-3 to Ashley Hykin.

The new season for the Winmau Centre Monday Night League has got underway and reigning champions The Untouchables, who in last season’s 26 games only lost once have lost in week five. What’s The Point who finished third in the last campaign had a lose but nevertheless decisive 25 -23 win over The Untouchables to put them on 152 points and fifth in the league table while The Untouchables are on 161 points and at the time of going to print are third.
The early pacesetters this season are What Are Thoooes? Who have won all five of their fixtures and have amassed a total of 165 points. Misfits have only lost one of their five games and are in second place four points to the good on The Untouchables.

With only a couple of fixtures remaining in the Winmau Thursday Night Champions League the race for the title and first prize of £300 is hotting up as leader Kevin Harris is on 191 points from 36 games, second placed Kevin Lane with 185 points is only six short of Harris and has two games in hand which could net him a total of 14 points. Third placed Mick O’Neill is another player who is also still in the frame as he has 178 points from 35 games but realistically the title should go to one of the top two and the odds look as though it will be Lane.
Plans are already taking place for season two of the Champions League and anyone interested in entering a team or requiring any further information regarding the league should once again e-mail either [email protected] or wolverhamptonsportsarena.co.uk alternatively give the centre a ring on telephone number 01902-420827 any day after 11.30 am.
