Saltley Amateur Gardeners, reigning champions for the Sheldon and District Winter League have taken over the number one spot in the summer league. Playing at home against Riley’s Rags Saltley beat their visitors 6-2 to give them a perfect six points from their opening three games. Saltley are the only group one team to have a 100% record, as this was Riley’s Rags first defeat and puts them same four points and level on average as Highwood Arrows in joint second place.

In group four Riley’s Misfits made it three straight wins when they won their home tie with Maggies 6-2 and in group six another unbeaten team, Highwood KB’s won 5-3 at George V ‘B’ to maintain their 100% start to the campaign.

Group two’s RAFA are the only other team in the league with a 100% win record, but there is only two results in for them so far.

A reminder that the Warwickshire Ladies Super League are on the lookout for more teams to join them in the forthcoming season. Matches are played every other Friday night beginning at the end of August and running through till May.

Crown ‘A’ have extended their lead at the top of the Cradley Tuesday Night League to eight points after they won their latest game against their nearest rivals Chainmakers ‘B’ 6-3 to take Crown’s undefeated run to 22 games.

Members Club won 5-4 at Jays Bar to put them just two points behind Chainmakers ‘B’ with a game in hand.

Week two in the Stourbridge and District Wednesday Night League saw a complete change around at the top end of the table. Former joint leaders Ashwood ‘A’ dropped to third place despite winning 6-1 at Dudley Sports. Taking over in pole position is Ten Arches ‘A’, who won their fixture at The Fox 7-0, Fox plummeting down the table from third to tenth. Joining Ten Arches ‘A’ at the top of the table is Wombourne Cricket Club, who also had a 7-0 win at Gigmill.

Biggest climbers of the week were Ashwood ‘B’, leaping from twelfth to fifth after a 7-0 home win over The Leopard. The Bridge beat Rose and Crown 4-3 and moved up three places to fourth.

The Small Heath League played off their singles competition and taking the title was Emerald Club’s Neil Parsonage, adding yet another title and trophy to an ever increasing list.

Losing out in the final was Matthew Cooper, representing Gulp Tribe and losing semi finalists were Clive Austin (Shannon’s) and Peter Yardley (Emerald Club).

On the league front leaders Gulp Tribe recorded a massive 8-1 home win over Emerald Club Flights and open up an eight points lead over second in the table Emerald Club, who for the fourth time in thirteen games lost, finishing on the wrong side of a 7-2 result at Sheldon Marlborough Flights, who are currently placed seventh in the league.

The Camp Hill League got their new season underway and three of the four games played resulted in 6-1 scorelines. Chalking up those results were Gulp Tribe, Cotterills Lane Club and Scruffy Ringers, in turn defeating Wagonners, Devil’s Club and Station Flights. In the other game played The Lions won 4-3 at Bordesley Labour Club.

There were wins for the top two teams in division one of the Forest of Arden Summer League, leaders Olton Crown won 5-2 against Highwood KB to send KB to the foot of the table. Second placed Highwood ‘A’ kept the gap on Olton to two points with a vital 6-1 win at Harvester, who are third and now six points behind their victors.

Division two’s top team, Iron Horse had a close 4-3 win away to fourth placed Crown Arrows to stay four points in front of Peachy Keens, who won their home game with Sheldon Flights 5-2, lifting them from third to second in the table.

Played seven won seven, that’s the record for division three leaders Centurion their latest win being an emphatic 7-0 success at Ivy Leaf Bulls, who are bottom of the table. It was a good week for Greville Arms as they won 4-3 against New Inns, the teams are placed third and second respectively, Greville Arms just two points behind New Inns, with a game in hand.

As the Tamworth League are winding down their season they staged their doubles competition. The winners of the event were Martin Edwards and Alan Carter, who in the final beat Wayne Hewins and Phil Daulman 3-2. In the semi’s the champions won 3-0 against Jamie Steadman and Susie leek, while with the same scoreline Hewins and Daulman beat James Richardson and Andy Woods.

There were wins for the top three teams in the Pip Club League, top side Bulls Head ‘A’ (Polesworth) had a 12-4 home win against sixth placed Bull (Two Gates). Dolphin and Wilnecote Club are both on 43 points and six adrift of Bulls Head ‘A’. Both teams won their games 10-6, Dolphin beat Pip Club, while Wilnecote accounted for Old Liberal, Dolphin are second in the table due to them having a slightly better average than Wilnecote.

At the other end of the table there were rare wins for both Longwood and White Lion. Longwood are two places off the bottom of the table and won 11-5 at Royal Oak, who are two places and six points above them. White Lions 14-2 home win was against next to bottom of the table Anchor Inn, who after 26 fixtures are still seeking their first win.

It’s as you were at the top of the Rowley Monday Night League with all seven of the top teams winning. Leaders Crown took their unbeaten run to 21 games with an 8-1 win at Fairfield. Second placed Springfield Social Club matched Crown’s 6-1 win in their tie at the Boat, but remain four points behind the leaders. The next three teams in the table, Ex Serviceman’s Club, Ivy Bush ‘Z’ and Allens Sports Bar all won 6-3 against respective opponents Ivy Bush ‘A’, Haden Cross and Bulls Head.

Victoria Inn chalked up only their second win in 21 games when they won 5-4 at Moon Under Water, who are six places and twelve points ahead of them.

A 6-2 win at Banbury Club has taken Chelmsley Wood RBL to the top of group ‘A’ in the South Birmingham League. With a 100% record in their opening two game Chelmsley have gone one point clear of former leaders Raven.

In group ‘B’ Riley’s Kings beat The Punch Bowl 6-2 to go level at the top of the table with The Crown, both having won their first two games.

Group ‘C’ saw all six teams chalk up their first draw of the season so nothing changes in the division, St John’s and Toby, with 5 points staying two ahead of the rest of the field.

As a follow up to the charity match in aid of Vinnie Whitehead played at Riley’s, Castle Vale another two matches have been played, the first of which was at Holy Souls, where the South Birmingham League beat the Gulp Charity team 11-10 and in the process raised £203.85. The third game in the series was again staged at the Riley’s venue and saw the South Birmingham side win 11-4 in a re-match with the Gulp team. On this occasion a total of £200 was raised taking the running total to £1295.45. In addition to the main event on Saturday there was a youth knockout which was won by Peter Kingdon, with Ben Liggins runner up.

Other fund raising activities are planned plus in September the last eight players from the first night’s knockout will play against professionals Ronny and Kim Huybrechts plus Jelle Klassan. All proceeds will go to Vinnie, who suffers from Menkes Disease and requires sensory lighting.
