On the fixture card for the Sheldon and District Summer League was the preliminary round of their Mrs F.Richman Cup. Biggest wins of the round were provided by Riley’s Misfits and Crown Arrows, who in turn defeated RAFA and Shannon’s by a 6-1 margin.

Iron Horse Flights were not far behind as they accounted for Raven with a 5-2 scoreline, while Marston Green Tavern had a close 4-3 result away to Langley Hall Sports and Social Flights.

The Warwickshire Ladies Super League are on the lookout for more teams to join them in the forthcoming season. Matches are played every other Friday night beginning at the end of August and running through till May.

The Pip Club League staged the semi finals of their Sports Bar Knockout and in division one Bulls Head (Polesworth) beat Wilnecote Club, while in division two there was a win for White Lion at the expense of Two Gates Club.

In the Shadow Cup Bulls Head (Two Gates) won the division one clash with Pip Club and in division two it was Travellers who were successful in their tie against Old Liberal.

It’s as you were at the top of the Rowley Monday Night League as the top six teams all recorded wins. The Crown remains in pole position with a 7-2 home win over White Swan. Springfield Social Club are second, they also won 7-2 at home to Moon Under Water, and stay four points behind the leaders with 36 points.

Ex Serviceman’s Club and Ivy Bush ‘Z’ are both a further two points adrift and in turn had wins over Timber Tree and Leones, both of them winning 5-4.

Allens Sports Bar are fifth with 30 points following a 5-4 win against Fairfield and making up the top six is The bell with a 6-3 win at Victoria Inn to give them 28 points.

Haden Cross lost 5-4 at Whiteheath Tavern, but despite the defeat move one place up the table to third from bottom as Hunting Tree suffered a heavy 8-1 home defeat at the hands of the Bulls Head team and now have just one leg of average less than Haden Cross.

Crown ‘A’ march on in the Cradley Tuesday Night League, their latest 5-4 home win over Riddins Tavern taking them to 40 points and twenty wins from as many games. The win keeps Crown six points ahead of second in the table Chainmakers ‘B’, who had a convincing 7-2 win at Wheatsheaf, which puts them two points in front of their nearest rivals Members Club, who now have a game in hand as they had a bye this week.

Fourth placed Brickmakers Arms lost ground as they went down 6-3 at home to fifth in the table Gate (Darby End), but like Members Club have only played nineteen games, which is on fewer than the rest of the league.

The South Birmingham League got their summer season underway and in group ‘A’ Banbury Flights had the best start with their 5-3 win over The Dog, St John’s and The Raven finished all square at 4-4.

In group ‘B’ The Crown and Coleshill Social both recorded 6-2 wins against respective opponents The Punch Bowl and The Trident.

St John’s Flights are the early group ‘C’ leaders, a 6-2 win at Poachers Pocket putting them top of the pile with Toby Jug and Smithswood Social just behind them following their 5-3 wins against The Kingfisher and The Gate.

Riley’s, Castle Vale was the setting for the charity event organized by South Birmingham League secretary Sue Kingdon. The event was in aid of local lad Vinnie Whitehead, who requires sensory lighting as he suffers from Menkes Disease.

Winner of the main event was Barry Stephens, with runner up Martin Partridge, these two plus the other six from the last eight, Neil Parsonage, Luis Barberan, Chris Stokes, Simon Edwards, Dave Clinton and Pete Shipley will now go on to play against professionals Ronny and Kim Huybrechts plus Jelle Klassan at the Castle Vale venue in September.

The youth competition was won by Alex Edwards with Jake Liggins the losing finalist.

The evening raised a fantastic amount of £761 and will go with further funds to be raised at two more planned events, the first being at Holy Souls on the 5th July and another at Riley’s, Castle Vale, on both evenings there will be a match against the Gulp Charity team.

This week’s latest results in the Small Heath League saw Shannon’s and Westminster Lions swap places in the table. Playing at home Shannon’s got the 7-2 verdict, which saw them take over their opponents third place in the table and Westminster Lions drop to fourth.

A 7-2 home win for Cob’s Bar against Clock Inn lifted the hosts off the foot of the table and see their visitors drop two places to take over the bottom spot. Three teams, Victoria New Club, Cob’s Bar and Clock Inn are all on eight points and in turn they have played 12, 14 and 13 games.

Second placed Emerald Club chalked up a 5-4 win over Wagon and Horses to put them on 18 points from 12 games, still six behind leaders Gulp Tribe, who have 24 points from 13 games.

There were wins for all three of the divisional leaders in the Forest of Arden Summer League this week. In division one Olton Crown neat Harvester 4-3 to go four points clear of second placed Highwood ‘A’, who result against Riley’s Red Arrows is not in at the time of going to print.

In division two Iron Horse had a 6-1 win against next to bottom Sheldon Flights to put them on 10 points and four clear of second placed Highwood ‘C’, who won their home game against Peachy Keens 4-3

Centurion lead division three, they took their unbeaten run to six games when they won 6-1 at home to Highwood Exiles. Second placed New Inns are just two points off the top after a similar 6-1 win over Riley’s Wings.

Fox and Dogs ended their season in the Tamworth League with a resounding 7-0 victory over Longwood. Their win gave them a total point’s of 194 and saw them complete the fixture card with 22 wins in the 22 games played. Dolphin ‘A’, with one fixture remaining have 169 points and will finish as runners up. Third placed Sports Bar ‘180’ are on 139 points.

Fourth placed Old Liberal House did not finish on a high as they lost 6-3 at home to eighth in the table Mile Oak Rovers.

The players league was won by Fox and Dogs representative Martin Edwards. Martin with a final success against Longwood’s Simon Smith finished on 57 points, 12 ahead of Kevin Clubley (Dolphin ‘A’) who still has one game to play.

With the majority of players having completed six games in the Riley’s Friday Individual League, quite a battle is going on for the number one spot with no fewer than six players have eight points at the top of the table. John Burdett and Paul Cummings have both only played five games and it is Burdett who leads the field on average from Gary Taylor. Carl Betteridge is third with Paul Cummings, one of only two players in the league to remain undefeated, Luis Barberan being the other, all set to take over the second spot if he wins his game in hand. James Frost and Steve Cain are the other two players on eight points.
