Warwickshire’s fine season in the premier division of the Riley’s BDO Inter County Championships continued with a superb 19-17 home win over Glamorgan to consolidate their third place in the table.
Playing at Bishopsgate Club, Foleshill Road, Coventry, Warwickshire’s Saturday results gave them a good start to the weekend as the ladies finished all square at 3-3 after trailing 2-0, Kat Spanswick the lady of the match with her 22.77 average, and the men’s ‘B’ team chalked up their fifth win in seven games, an 8-4 victory with Carl Green the teams top player with his 27.72 average.
Sunday’s teams had mixed fortunes as the ladies, for the fifth time this season lost 5-1, Angela Jones (17.89) their sole winner. The men’s ‘A’ found themselves 5-1 down before taking the final six games for a tremendous fight back and a 7-5 win, Steve Hine, with a 28.42 average took the match award.

With four fixtures remaining in the Sheldon and District Winter League, Saltley Amateur Gardeners are within touching distance of the premier division title having won all eighteen of the games to give them a six point’s lead over second in the table Crown at Shard End. Week eighteen’s fixtures saw both of the top two teams win 6-3, Saltley away to Sheldon Dukes and Crown at home to Langley Hall Sports and Social.
With EBAHA, second in the division one table having their tie with Maggies postponed until 17th April, Raven opened up a six points lead at the top with a convincing 8-1 win against Sheldon Social. The situation is much closer in division two, a 7-2 win at Ridgemere Social giving Crown Arrows 32 points, just two more than their nearest rivals Baldwin Bears, who beat Highwood Exiles by the same 7-2 margin.

Divisional cup finals were on the fixture card for the Forest of Arden Winter league and in the division one game league leaders Olton Crown defeated second in the table Highwood ‘A’ to take the title.
The division two final was between, in turn second and third placed Sheldon Flights and Highwood KB, with the latter winning the tie.

The two top teams from each division of the Pip Club League played each other this week, Bulls Head ‘A’, leaders of division one played hosts to the division two leaders Travellers, the result an 11-5 win for Bulls Head ‘A’ to give them a total of 33 points, a lead of four over Birchmoor Club, who won their home tie with Anchor Inn 14-2. Dolphin lost their number two place when they went down 10-6 at home to fourth in the table Wilnecote Club.
Despite the defeat Travellers hang on to pole position in division two, but their advantage has now been reduced to just two points as second in the table Old Liberal Club won 9-7 away to Longwood.

With only half a dozen games left in the season for the Stourbridge and District Monday Night League any one of the top four teams are still in with a chance of taking the title. High Acres currently lead the field on 58 points, their most recent game seeing them win 7-2 at home to Stourbridge British Legion. Brickmakers are only two points off the top after winning 6-3 away to fourth placed Bird ‘A’ (Stourbridge) , who were the only losers in the top nine teams. Third placed Ten Arches had a comfortable 8-1 win at home to Queen.
It was a good week for Kingswinford Conservative Club as they recorded only their fourth win in 33 games, a 5-4 success at Shrubbery Cottage.

This week the Four Oaks and District League staged the Derek Masters Trophy, a singles knockout sponsored by Central Container Services plus their Ian Cooper Cup.
The singles competition was played at two venues Riley’s Snooker Club and the Red Lion, Station Road, Erdington. At Riley’s the top three first division teams, Sutton Sports, Nomads and Red Lion Flights, dominated the quarter finals. In the semi finals D.Vickers (Red Lion Flights) lost to M.Horacek (Nomads) and M.Ashton (Sutton Sports) beat C.Millward snr (Nomads). In the final M.Horacek beat M.Ashton 2-0.
The Red Lion semi finals saw S.Lysaght (Brookvale Social) lose 2-0 to R.Hawker (Sutton Sports) and M.Willetts (The Fox) also go down 2-0 in his tie with another Sutton Sports player, M.Wild. In the all Sutton Sports final R.Hawker beat M.Wild. The grand final between M.Horacek and R.Hawker will be played off at the Red lion on April 18th.
On the night the only maximum was hit by N.Napier (The Fox).
The semi finals of the Ian Cooper Triples competition saw The Nomads ‘A’ win 2-0 against Sutton Sports ‘3’ and Sutton Sports ‘2’ beat The Nomads ‘B’ 2-1.
The Nomads ‘A’ had a 3-1 win over Sutton Sports ‘2’ in the final, C.Millward snr hitting two maximums for the Nomads and team mate W.Mynard hit one as did B.Linnecor (Sutton Sports), K.Reynolds (The Beehive) and I.Matthews (Bromford Lions).

Cup games were on the agenda for the Small Heath League. In the preliminary round of the Upside Down Cup Clock Inn lost to Cob’s Bar, while New Victoria Club defeated Wagon and Horses.

A gap is now forming between the top four teams in the Cradley Tuesday Night League and the rest of the field. Leaders Crown ‘A’, the only unbeaten team in the league, added a 6-3 win over Gate (Colley Gate) to their tally to make it a perfect 22 points from eleven games. Second in the table Chainmakers ‘B’ also won 6-3 away to Bulls Head, but third placed Brickmakers lost ground as they lost their home game against fourth in the table Members Club, again 6-3 to put both teams on 16 points, Brickmakers having the slightly better average.
After the top four there are five teams with 12 points.

Brickmakers provided three of the last four players in the Netherton Thursday Night League’s singles knockout, in the first of the semi’s M.Hall (Brickmakers ‘A’) beat Brickmakers ‘B’ representative G.Morton 2-0. The second of the semis went the full three legs distance with P.Wells (Prince of Wales) coming out the 2-1 winner against A.Turley (Brickmakers ‘B’).
The final saw Hall beat Wells in two straight legs.

Just one fixture played in the South Birmingham League, which saw the bottom two teams in division one square up to each other. Home board advantage didn’t favour bottom of the table Farthings as they went down 5-4 to Pavilions to leave them without a point from eight games and now six points adrift of the nearest team Pavilions.

The Tamwoth League had the Paul Caswell Memorial Cup on their fixture card the semi finals saw Dolphin ‘A’ beat Tam O’Shanter 4-1 and Fox and Dogs win by the same margin against Longwood to set up a final between the current top two teams in the league.
Losing quarter finalists were, Old Liberal House, Sports Bar ‘180’, Mile Oak Rovers and Three Tuns (Fazeley).

All four games played in the Camp Hill League resulted in a 4-3 scoreline. Cotterills Lane Club maintained their two points lead at the top of the table with a win at Wagonners, while second in the table Gulp Tribe won at Scruffy Ringers, who are third and a further four points behind. Also on the same 10 points as Ringers are Westminster Lions and Bordesley Labour Club.

Oxbarn suffered their first defeat in five games in division one of the Wolverhampton Tuesday Night League, while leaders Otter and Vixen made it six straight wins when they won 5-2 at Penn Bowling to put them four points ahead of Riley’s ‘C’, Oxbarn and Village ‘B’, but all three have a game in hand on the leaders.
In division two there was a shock result for top team Boat ‘A’ as they lost their away fixture 4-3 to middle of the table Wolverhampton Sports Arena. This was Boat’s first loss in six and now joining them on the same 10 points and average are Wednesfield Legion ‘A’, with Riley’s ‘B’ and Wednesfield Cons also on ten points.

Crown ‘A’ won a vital game in the Rowley Monday Night League this week, a 6-3 home success over second in the table Springfield Social Club to make it eleven straight wins for the hosts and give them a two points buffer at the top of the table. This was Springfield’s first defeat of the campaign and similarly Ivy Bush ‘Z’ also went down for the first time again it was 6-3 away to Ex Serviceman’s Club, but nevertheless hold on to third place in the table.

Whitmore Reans WMC made it four wins in a row in the Tettenhall Wednesday Night League this week and did it in style by handing out a 7-0 whitewash to their hosts Otter and Vixen ‘A’. Whitmore are the only unbeaten team in the league and have a two points lead over Riley’s, Moreton and the Bull.

Winners of the Doubles Knockout at the Brickmakers, Quarry Bank were, A.Turley and D.Simpson, who had a 6-3 win in the final over J.Sharrat and C.Davies.
Turley and Simpson, with a 5-4 scoreline took out I.Jones and M.Hall in the semi’s, while Sharrat and Davies had a 5-3 win against J.Rollinson and A.Colly.
The winners received £150, the runners up £100 and there was £50 for the losing semi finalists.
