Despite the number of entries being disappointing for both the Coventry and Midland Open’s, in no way did it detract from the very high standard of play throughout. Saturday’s Coventry Open saw Jon Jukes take the winners £500 after a convincing 6-1 win over Wolverhampton’s Wayne Jones, who as runner up received £200.
Jukes beat Mark Cox 5-3 in the semi’s while Jones with a 5-1 result took out Will Naylor, both Cox and Naylor picked up £80. There was also £20 for each of the losing quarter finalists.
From a dozen entries the winner of the ladies Round Robin was Buckinghamshire’s Suzanne Smith (£80) and runner up Julie Robinson (£40). Losing semi finalists Marian Conway and Collette Duffield had £20 each.

Winner of Sunday’s Midland Open top prize of £1,000 was Steve Bunting, from Lancashire, who won the final 6-2 against former Warwickshire player and now a team mate of Bunting’s Mark McGeeney, who received £400.
McGeeney beat his former Warwickshire team mate Nigel Heydon 5-2 in the semis, while Bunting had a close 5-4 verdict over Steve West, the two losers getting £130 each.
Deta Hedman had a great run in the men’s event making the last sixteen where she lost 5-2 to Jay Foreman. In addition to her £15 winnings in the men’s competition, she also picked up a further £80 as winner of the ladies Round Robin competition, where she beat the previous day’s winner Suzanne Smith 4-2, Suzanne adding another £40 to her already won £80.

Week six produced a top of the table clash in group one of the Sheldon and District Summer League with leaders Riley’s Kings travelling to take on second in the table Iron Horse. The outcome was a 6-2 win for Riley’s to put them on nine points, a four points lead over the rest of the field.
There were big wins for the leaders of groups two, three and four as in turn Highwood Flights beat Poachers Pocket 7-1, George V ‘A’ handed out an 8-0 whitewash to their hosts Crane and Riley’s Rags had a 7-1 home win over Crown Arrows.
Raven lead group five, a close 5-3 win away to bottom team Shard End Social giving them a perfect score of 12 points from their six game, their lead increasing to four points as second placed Willclare Sports and Social had a shock 7-1 defeat away to former bottom team Iron Horse Arrows, who moved off the foot of the table after this their first win in six.
Baldwin Bears hang on to pole position in group six after a 7-1 win at George V ‘B’, while Ivy Leaf ‘B’ had their lead reduced to two points in group seven when they were held to a 4-4 draw by Meadway Sports and Social and Greville Arms beat Ivy Leaf Flights 6-2 to keep the pressure on the leaders.

There were 7-1 wins for the top two teams in group ‘A’ of the South Birmingham League, leaders Mackadown Social beating Toby Jug to stay two points ahead of Farthings, who defeated Kingfisher.
In group ‘B’ top team The Dog dropped their first points of the campaign after being held to a 4-4 draw at home to St John’s, who remain second one point behind Dog.
The Crown at Shard End lost ground in the group ‘C’ race as they lost 7-1 away to leaders Riley’s Kings. The match contained no fewer than 45 scores of a ton or more with Crown getting the edge with 26 to Kings 19, for Kings W.Naylor hit two maximums and M.Birch one. Crown drop to third in the table, one point behind Raven, who beat Smithswood Social 6-2 to keep within one point of Kings.

Just one result in from the Forest of Arden Summer League, who were playing the preliminary round of their Divisional Cup and that was from division one where Olton Crown beat Riley’s Red Arrows 6-1.

Round one of the League Cup was the order of the day for the Camp Hill League and going through to the next round will be Cotterills Lane Club, Bordesley Labour Club, Wagonners and Station, who in turn defeated Shaftmoor Lions, Scruffy Ringers, Devil’s Club and Crown Arrows.

The Pip Club League had their Shadow League Knockout on their fixture card and in the semi finals of division one Birchmoor Club beat Dosthill Club and Dolphin won against Sports Bar ‘180’
Division two played off their final in which Royal Oak lifted the trophy with a win over Gate Inn.

Wins for the top three teams in the Cradley Tuesdau Night League, leaders Brickmakers winning 6-1 at Hawne Lane Tavern, while second placed Quarry Bank Liberal Club won 5-2 at Netherton Sports and Social ‘B’ to put them on 36 points, four behind the top team. Yeltz Bar are also on 36 points after their close 4-3 home win over Victoria, but Jays Bar slipped from fourth to sixth when they surprisingly lost 5-2 at Prince of Wales, who moved up one place in the table to fifteenth.

Wolverhampton Sports Arena fell another two points behind the leading duo, Village ‘A’ and Otter and Vixen ‘B’ in division one of the Wolverhampton Tuesday Night League when they lost their home game with lowly Golden Lion 6-1, Arena are now eight points adrift of top team Village and have four fewer than second placed Otter and Vixen ‘B’.
Division two leaders Electric lost 5-2 at Corpus, who are sixth in the table and as a result have thrown the title wide open. After 20 games there are now four teams locked together on 30 points with only average separating them. Electric remain in pole position with Village ‘B’ second then comes Bull and Riley’s ‘A’.

In the Rowley Monday Night League leaders Bulls Head (Rowley) increased their lead to six points by beating their nearest rivals Ivy Bush ‘Z’ 5-4. Ivy Bush ‘Z’ have now dropped to third place trailing on average to the Bell, who had an impressive 8-1 win at The Crown, both teams are now on the same 34 points.
In a mid table tussle York Road Sports and Social won their home tie with Allens Sports and Social to put both teams on 22 points, Allens having the slightly better average.

Despite winning 6-1 at home against Brewood British Legion, Riley’s ‘B’ have lost the number one spot in the Tettenhall Wednesday Night League. It’s so close at the top of the table that Wednesfield FC’s 7-0 win puts them top of the pile with the same 36 points as Riley’s ‘B’ but with just one leg of average to the good.
Third placed Riley’s ‘A’ dropped two points behind the leading duo after losing 5-2 at home to fourth in the table Whitmore Reans WMC.
