The Sheldon and District Summer League have got their new season underway and the early pacesetters in group one are Crown at Olton, who won 5-3 away to Highwood Arrows. In group two Mackadown Social were also top winners with a 5-3 result at Kingshurst and District Labour Club.
George V ‘A’ had a convincing 7-1 home win over The Crane in group three while in group four Riley’s Rags handed out an 8-0 whitewash to their hosts Crown Arrows. Two teams, Raven and Willclare Sports and Social share the top spot in group five, both of them having 6-2 wins over respective opponents Shard End Social and Iron Horse Arrows.
Highwood KB’s lead group six following their 7-1 home success over George V ‘B’, while Greville Arms in group seven, were the only other 8-0 winners in the league, Ivy Leaf Bulls on the receiving end.

The annual Dougie Bowen Memorial Trophy was played off at the Raven, Hodge Hill and scooping the title with a final victory over Dave Mortiboys was Wayne Mynard. The champion raced through his rounds dropping just one leg in the competition up to the semi finals. In the preliminary round he won 2-1 against Alan Blythe, he followed that up with wins over M.Earl (2-0) and A.Bowen (2-0) before beating Robbie Earl 3-2 in the last four. The final score was a straight 4-0.

The Sheldon and District Winter League will be holding their AGM on Sunday 30th June at the Meadway Sports and Social Club beginning at 10.30am.
All teams and prospective teams should be represented at this meeting.

The Aston League have completed their season apart from one outstanding fixture between Sportsmans Rest and Safe Harbour, but the outcome of that game will not affect the final table. Finishing as champions were Riley’s with 36 points, Red Lion were runners up just two points behind the winners.
Riley’s won the title in style as they had to play their nearest rivals, Red Lion in the final game of the season, which with both teams on 34 points was always going to be the title decider. The result was a 6-3 win for the hosts, Riley’s.
The league will be holding their AGM at Aston Social on Wednesday 14th August commencing at 8.00pm.All teams within a six miles radius, both old and new are welcome to join, anyone requiring any further information should contact league secretary G.Oldfield on 07713-622619.

No change at the top of the Cradley Tuesday Night League as the top four teams all won in the latest round of fixtures. Leaders Brickmakers had a convincing 6-1 win at The Gate (Darby End), while second in the table Quarry Bank Liberal Club won 5-2 at Jays Bar. Third and fourth placed Yeltz Bar and Swan in turn both won 4-3 against Chainmakers and Vine.
The Gate (Colley Gate) moved up two places to fifth in the table with a 5-2 home win over Roost ‘B’, Hawne Lane Tavern also moved up two places to sixth after beating Victoria 4-3.

The Pip Club League staged their Singles Competition for division two and walking away with the title was Belgrave Club representative Rob Markley, who in the final beat team mate John Aidney.
Losing semi finalists were, Ash Luckman and Mick Cross, both from the Pip Club.
No fewer than three players from the travellers went out in the last eight, Dave Jones, Nat Bailey and Ron Hunt, the other losing quarter finalist was Gene Storer form the Pip Club.

The South Birmingham League played off a couple of their cup matches, the division two final was won by Centurion, who had a close 5-4 win over The Trident in the final. Taking the Roy Parry Cup title was Riley’s Kings, who beat Mackadown Social 5-1 in the final encounter.
In the last four play off the champions gad a resounding 9-0 victory over Smithswood Social, Mackadown Social beat The Crown 6-3.

It’s as you were at the top of the Small Heath League, leaders Gulp Tribe chalking up a massive 9-0 win away to bottom team Custard House Flights to give them 32 points. The nearest threat to Gulp Tribe comes from Emerald Club, who had a much closer 5-4 win against third placed Custard House to leave them four points adrift of the leaders, and their opponents a further six points adrift.

In Week two of the Forest of Arden Summer League’s season Olton Crown heads division one on average from Highwood ‘A’ and Riley’s Red Arrows, all three only having one result so far.
In division two The Crane are leading with a perfect four points from their opening two games, the latest win being a 4-3 success away to Crown Arrows. Highwood KB are second, a convincing 7-0 result at home to Sheldon Flights, their only result so far.
Highwood ‘C’ top division three a 4-3 win at Ivy Leaf their one and only result to date.

Wolverhampton Sports Arena had a bye in division one of the Wolverhampton Tuesday Night League this week and as a result have dropped from second to fourth place in the table, but are level on points with the two teams directly above them and trail just on average. Village ‘A’ lead the field on 24 points following their emphatic 7-0 win at home to Golden Lion. Otter and Vixen ‘B’, who beat Railway 6-1 are second on 20 points the same amount as Victoria and Sports Arena, Victoria winning 5-2 at Merry Boys.
In division two Riley’s ‘A’ surprisingly lost 5-2 at lowly Roebuck and have sacrificed their second place and dropped to fifth joining three teams above them Village ‘B’, Bull and Bradmore on 22 points. Village ‘B’ had a 5-2 win at Emerald, while both Bull and Bradmore had 4-3 wins in turn against Riley’s ‘B’ and Corpus.

Paul Smallwood (Tam’O’Shanter) extended his lead at the top of the Players League in the Tamworth league when he beat Rob Taft (Sports Bar) and his nearest rival Kev Lawrence (Three Horse Shoes) lost to bottom of the table Chris Young (Three Tuns, Fazeley).
In the main league leaders Three Horse Shoes continue their fine season with a 6-1 home win over third in the table Three Tuns, Fazeley. Second placed Old Liberal House kept in touch with the leaders with a 5-2 success at Dolphin Inn.
