Week one of the Sheldon and District Winter League and Iron Horse got off to a cracking start in the premier division whipping their opponents EBAHA 8-1. Not far behind Iron Horse were Kingshurst and District Labour Club with a 7-2 success over Holy Souls.

Biggest scoreline in division one was 7-2, supplied by Banbury Club and Shirley RBL Flights, who in turn defeated Yardley Ex Colts and Langley Hall Sports and Social.

Division three early pacesetters were Small Heath Amateur Gardeners with a 6-3 home win over Riley’s Wings.

Three players began the season with maximums and they were, T.White (Saltley Amateur Gardeners), T.Frost (Banbury Club) and B.Swaine (Maggies).

The Aston League got their new season underway and Kingstanding Ex-Serviceman’s started in style handing out a 9-0 whitewash in their home tie with the Leopard. Four of the other five games finished with 7-2 results, there were wins for Safe Harbour, Oscott Social, Riley’s and Sportsmans Rest, in turn beating Aston Flights, Erdington Arrows, Old Oscott WMC and Aston Social. The game between Heartlands Social and Red Lion was a 5-4 win for the latter.

Riley’s Luis Barberan hit a 180, while C.Turnbull jnr (Kingstanding Ex-Serviceman’s) checked out on 160 and there was a nine darts game for Red Lion’s J.Collins.

As the end of the season draws ever closer in the Rowley Monday Night League, Wilson Hall remain in pole position, their latest 6-3 win away to the Boat maintaining their four points lead over second placed Gate Hangs Well, who had an impressive 8-1 home win over bottom of the table Spring Meadow.

After the first week’s games in the Tamworth League two teams, Sports Bar ‘180’ and Three Horses Shoes share the top spot, both of them winning their opening fixtures 6-3. Sports Bar ‘180; beat Tam O’Shanter and Three Horse Shoes accounted for Dolphin Inn.

The division one title in the Forest of Arden Summer League looks as if it will go to the wire as Riley’s Red Arrows and their local rivals Riley’s Flights, after each completing ten games are locked together 14 points with only two points of average separating them. In the latest round of fixtures Riley’s Flights won 6-1 at home to Greville Arrows, the second division title looks a little more clear cut as Highwood have a four points advantage over second in the table Highwood KB.

Forgers, leaders in the Camp Hill League had a surprisingly close 4-3 win in their away game with bottom of the table Crown Arrows, but nevertheless remain in the number one spot with 32 points from 17 games. Custard House moved up the table this week beating Roosters 7-0 to take over the second place with 22 points and although they are ten points behind Forgers still have four games in hand on them.

The Sutton and District Summer League have been playing off their Doubles Knockout and taking the title were J.Collins and T.Kelly with a final 2-0 win over M.Bateman and G.Parry.

Losing out in the last four were, J.Vickers and M.Corfield, who lost to the champions and M.Pearce and J.Clarke.

Throughout the competition there were three maximums hit by A.Jarvie, M.Pearce and J.Collins. Collins and Kelly recorded the fastest leg of the knockout, which was fifteen darts.

This coming Sunday the Barras Social Club, Coventry Street, Coventry will be staging the Midland Open 2012. The competition will carry a guaranteed top prize of £1200 for the winner with a payout down to the last sixteen players.

The competition always attracts top class players form around the country, will there be a new name on the winner’s silverware this year or will Derbyshire’s Colin Osborne retain his title?
