Sutton Park Hotel dropped further back in the division one title race in the Sutton and District Summer League this week as they went down 6-3 at home to Fox Flights. Fox Flights Have moved into second place behind leaders Sutton Sports who had a convincing 7-2 away win over Old Oscott Arrows. Fox Flights and Sutton Park Hotel are both on eight points with the former having the better average, they are two points behind Sutton Sports with one game in hand.

It’s still tight at the top of division two with leaders Red Lion Flights winning 6-3 at Oscott Social and Pint pot Nomads wining by the same margin against local rivals Pint Pot Flights. The leading duo are both on 14 points, Pint Pot Nomads having played one game less than Red Lion Flights, who are currently top on average.

There is a clear four points separating the top two teams in the third division, Drakes Drum made it eight straight wins when they beat Bishop Vesey 8-1, second placed Heartlands had a 7-2 home win over Deer’s Leap Stags. Bromford Club chalked up their first win in eight, a 5-4 result at home to Plough and Barrows.

No fewer than 48 players turned out for the Small Heath Winter League’s Presentation Night Knockout. In the first of the semi finals Neil Parsonage (Emerald Club) turned out to be the winner on finishing doubles against Paul Brown (Custard House), while in the second last four play off Mitre’s Mark Kane was the better player on the night against Ray Gibbons from Cobs Bar.

The final saw the opening two legs shared and the deciding leg could easily have gone either way but in the end it was Neil Parsonage who found the all important double to take the title.

The Rowley League played off their Summer Open at Springfield Social, the event attracting lots of local talent plus top names such as Mark Hylton. The final was a contest between Mike Marshall and Ryan Tipper, with the former clinching the title and top prize of £200. Tipper received £100 and there was £50 for each of the losing semi finalists, Neil Smith and Jason Lowe.

The highest finish of the competition was a maximum 170 which was achieved by Tom Lewis who was described by league secretary Alan Jones as “Not being old enough to be out on his own”, well done Tom

The league’s next knockout, The Rowley Autumn Open will be played on Saturday 15th September.

Congratulations to Russell Dingley chairman of the Rowley Monday Night League and his wife Sarah, who gave birth to a baby boy, Reece Thomas at 05.16am on 15th July at Russells Hall Hospital. Reece weighed in at 7lbs 2oz and has a brother Keiran and sister Abigail.

The Warley League has reached the halfway stage of their season and now the one division splits into three. The current top six teams, Ivy Bush ‘B’, Smethwick Labour Club, Cricketers, Bell ‘A’, Bell ‘B’, Woodland Street form division one, Brandhall Labour Club, Plough, Ex-Serviceman’s, Old Chapel, Old Cross division two and for division three it will be Junction, British Queen, Pheasant, Bulls Head and Smethwick C.C.

The Oldbury Sunday Morning League is approaching its midway point of the campaign and leading the field after twelve games is Labour Club ‘B’ on 103 points, with their local rivals Labour Club ‘V’ and Ivy Bush their nearest rivals some nine points behind them. The stage for the remainder of the season at this point appears to be a battle for the runners up spot.

Group one of the Sheldon and District Summer League staged a top of the table clash between leaders Riley’s, Castle Vale and Crown at Olton. The outcome was a 5-3 home win for Riley’s to give them a perfect score of 10 points from the opening five games. Crown, as a result have dropped into third place one point behind Highwood Arrows who handed out an 8-0 whitewash to Riley’s Arrows, leaving them three points off pole position.

It was back to winning ways for New Fits Flights in group two, a 6-2 home win over Pavilions keeping them in the number one position, while in group three leaders Shirley RBL Flights had a comfortable 7-1 home win over Holy Souls, George V ‘A’ lost second place to EBAHA, who beat them 5-3.

There was a shock for group four leaders Scanlons as they lost 5-3 at home to next to bottom Sheldon Social. However they hold on to top spot as second placed Langley Hall Sports and Social finished at 4-4 with Crown Arrows and despite drawing level on points with Scanlons trail slightly on average.

Centurion have extended their lead in group five to two points, a 6-2 win against Small Heath Amateur Gardeners for them, but a 5-3 defeat for second placed Highwood KB’s at Shard End Social. It’s a two points lead also for Ridgemere Arrows in group six following their 5-3 home win over Ivy Leaf ‘B’. Meadway Sports and Social lost their tie with George V ‘B’ 6-2 and also lost second place dropping to fourth with their victors taking over in the second spot, the two teams are joined on six points by Greville Arms, who won 5-3 at Ivy Leaf Flights.

Three teams are now on 16 points at the top of the Camp Hill League, Forgers, Custard House and Ladyboys. Custard House lost the outright leadership after losing 4-3 at Redhill Tavern and Ladyboys lost by the same margin in their tie at Scruffy Ringers. Forgers were the only winners in the top three, yet again a 4-3 scoreline as they won at Devils Club.
