Warwickshire will be back in action again this coming weekend in what is their penultimate Riley’s BDO Inter County Championship fixture of the season, a home tie at Bishopsgate Club, Foleshill Road, Coventry against third in the table Essex.

In their last outing Warwickshire beat Glamorgan 19-17 and that win has taken them to within six points of Essex, which after a season where Warwickshire have appeared to fighting off a relegation place is amazing what one win has done for them. A good result against Essex would give them a real chance of finishing in the top half of the table.

In division one West Midlands will travel away to take on Dorset, who are two places above the West Midlands and fourteen points to the good. A win is something that West Midlands need from the game to lift them from the edge of relegation. They are currently on 127 points, with Derbyshire just below them on 124 and then Bedfordshire, who are bottom on 96 points.

It was cup week in the Four Oaks and District League. First the quarter finals of the Coronation Shield which saw current division one leaders Sutton Sports overwhelm their second division opponents Pint Pot Nomads 8-1. Deer’s Leap won the first five games against the Fox Inn to go on and win 5-4, Sportsmans Rest accounted for Old Oscott WMC by the same 5-4 scoreline.

In the semi finals Sutton Sports again won 8-1, their opponents this time being third division leaders Drakes Drum. In the other semi Deer’s Leap beat Sportsmans Rest 5-4.

In the quarter finals of the Norman Day Cup a depleted Brookvale lost 6-3 to Boldmere Sports. Third division side Bishops Vesey put up a brave fight against their division one counterpart’s, but lost by a narrow 5-4.

The two semi finals both finished 5-4, Old Oscott Arrows were too strong for Anvil Nomads winning five of the first six games, while first division Boldmere Sports, after leading 4-2 lost by 5-4 to White Lion from division two.

The Camp Hill League were another league to have cup fixtures on their agenda. The League Cup final saw league leaders Sportsman beat fourth in the table Lady Westminster to lift the title.

The Consolation Cup title went to Waggoners with the Forgers finishing as runners up.

The Forest of Arden Winter League played off the final stages of their League Pairs Cup. In the last four games it was division one against division two in both games. First Riley’s Red Arrows, second in division one handed out a 15-0 whitewash to division two’s Highwood KB. The other semi was a little closer with Harvester (division one) winning 10-5 against Greville Arrows (division two).

In the all division one final it was Riley’s Red Arrows who stormed into a winning 8-1 lead to leave Harvester as runners up.

Matt Cooper has drawn with three points of Neil Parsonage, leader in the E.B.A.H.A. Double Top League after beating Will Carter 3-0 in the latest round of fixtures. Both Parsonage and Cooper have now played 17 games, the former having 64 points to the latter’s 61. Also in touch with the leading pair is Martin Cooper, whose 3-0 victory over Kerry Enefer has taken his points tally to 55.

Two more singles games were played this week in which Paul Webster beat Claire Cottrell 2-0 and with the same scoreline Neil Parsonage defeated Ross Macken, Parsonage recording a 152 break in the process.

The Three Horse Shoes gallop on in the Tamworth Sports Bar League, this week they handed out a 7-0 whitewash to Three Tunes to take their unbeaten run to 15 games and giving them 129 points. Sports Bar ‘180’ who are currently on 101 points had a close 4-3 win away to Dolphin, who are in the bottom half of the table. Sports bar ‘180’ have also played one game more than Three Horse Shoes.

In the local derby between Globe ‘A’ and Globe ‘B’ it was the ‘B’ side who got the 4-3 verdict, but still remain next to bottom in the table.

In the players league leader Trevor Barrs of Sports Bar ‘180’ suffered a shock defeat at the hands of fifth placed Brian Bird from the Dolphin, nevertheless Barrs holds on to pole position with 42 points, six more than his nearest rival Mark Tomlinson (Three Horse Shoes), who beat next to bottom of the table Martin Young (Three Tuns). Tomlinson has a game in hand on Barrs, a win would bring him within three points of Barrs.

Only a couple of results from the Small Heath League this week, but one of those was an important top of the table clash between Mitre and Scanlons. Playing at home Scanlons lost the possible title decider 7-2 giving Mitre a two points lead plus a massive average advantage.

In the other game played Sheldon Marlborough Flights lost their home tie with Custard House by 8-1, Custard House moving over Midland Darts Centre into third place in the table, however Darts Centre do now have a game in hand on Custard House.
