With an impressive 8-1 win away over Kingshurst and District Labour Club, plus Crown having a bye this week, Saltley Amateur Gardeners have moved up into second place in the premier division of the Sheldon and District Winter League. They now have a total of 22 points from 14 games, leaving them four adrift of leaders Olton RBL, who have 26 points after beating Highwood ‘A’ 6-3, but they have played one game more than Saltley, Crown are on the same 22 points and played the same number of games as Saltley.

In division one second in the table EBAHA lost ground in the title race as they lost 5-4 at Holy Souls, who are placed fourth. The title is wide open as only two points separate the top five teams. Pavilions are top with 16 points from 12, EBAHA 16 from 13, New Firs Flights have 14 points from 11 games, then comes Holy Souls and Forget-Me-Not who are both on 14 points from 12 games.

C.Thomas snr (Scanlons) was in top scoring form in division two as he chalked up two maximums, unfortunately it was not enough for his side to avoid a 5-4 defeat away to Sheldon Social.

The final of the division one Divisional Cup was played off in the Forest of Arden Winter League, which saw Old Bill and Bull just get the 5-4 edge on their opponents Highwood.

In division two a couple of league fixtures were played in which second in the table Greville Arms won 6-3 at Chelmsley Town to put them within two points of the local rivals and table toppers Greville Arrows. However, leaders, Arrows now have a game in hand on Arms.

In the other game played Highwood KB won their home tie with Riley’s Wings 5-4.

The division one title in the Four Oaks and District League is still too close to call as the top three teams all won again this week. Current leaders Sutton Sports beat the Fox Inn 7-2 to give them 26 points from 15 games, Deer’s Leap won 8-1 at Boldmere Sports to take their points tally to 24 from 14 games and third in the table Plough and Arrows had a 6-3 win at Old Oscott Arrows leaving them a further two points behind Deer’s Leap having played the same 14 games.

In the second division a 7-2 win away to Pint Pot Nomads as seen Red Lion Flights almost wrap up the title, they are now four points head of the rest of the field with only two games remaining, plus they have a far superior average.

Leopards C.Hill recorded his third maximum of the season and also finding the three treble twenties was E.Hall from the Fox Inn.

The third division staged the semi finals of their Challenge Cup and divisional leaders Drakes Drum beat their nearest rivals in the league Erdington Arrows 7-2. The second semi was a much closer affair with Plough and Barrows just getting the 5-4 edge on Deer’s Leap Stags.

The Pip Club League had the quarter finals of their Challenge Cup on the fixture list. In the division one game’s leaders Red Lion beat Birchmoor Club. Second placed Bulls Head (Polesworth) went out to their nearest rivals Progressive Club and in the bottom of the table clash between J.W.Belgrave Club (bottom) and Belgrave Club, who are next to bottom, it was the former who got the verdict.

In division two there was a shock for leaders Pip Club who lost out to Royal Oak, who are next to bottom of the table. No such problem for second placed Travellers they beat bottom placed Old Liberal Club.

Wilson Hall continue to impress in the Rowley League, an 8-1 home win over Hunting Tree maintaining their pole position and extending their lead on average. Gate Hangs Well are on the same 16 points as Wilson Hall after close 5-4 win away to Golden Cue.

Two teams just two points behind the leading duo are Ivy Bush ‘A’ and Ex-Serviceman’s. Ivy Bush ‘A’ were in top form winning 7-2 away to Spring Meadow, who remain the only team without a point so far this season, while Ex-Serviceman’s won 6-3 at the Timbertree.

Neil Parsonage added another two 3-0 wins to his tally this week in the E.B.A.H.A. League to take his points total to 64. Neil’s first opponent was newcomer Will Carter in which he hit scores of 100,121,180 and 135) he then beat Dave Carter and again had top shots of 3×100,140,114).

Matt Cooper, seven points behind Parsonage is his nearest threat and he also had two 3-0 wins, first against Kerry Enefer, with scores of 180,121,120,2×100, and then Sheila Carter, where he had top shots of 140 and 3×100.

A further six points adrift is Martin Cooper, with a game in hand on the leading pair, he beat Ross Macken 2-1 and Mark Hands 3-0.

The preliminary round of the Upside Down Cup was on the agenda for the Small Heath League this week, Cobs Bar went down 7-2 at home to Redhill Tavern, while Wagon and Horses won their home tie with Custard House Flights 5-4.
