Round one of the Sheldon and District Winter League’s Punch Bowl produced three “Giant Killing” shocks, all of them being supplied by division three teams. Two of the teams, Shirley RBL Flights and George V in turn beat division one opponents Shard End Social and Forget-Me-Not 5-4. The other surprise result was another close 5-4 verdict going in favour of Centurion in their tie with Glebe Community Association from division two.
Other teams to win through to round two were, EBAHA, Olton RBL, Old Bill and Bull, Iron Horse, New Firs Flights, Crown, Highwood ‘B’, Kingshurst and District Labour Club, Riley’s, Saltley Amateur Gardeners and Ivy Leaf Flights.
The game between Yardley Arms and Pavilions saw both teams with only eight players, and inevitably the result was a 4-4 draw. Who goes through to the next round is still to be decided.
There was one late League Cup result from division two, Custard House beating Scanlons 6-3.

The Four Oaks and District League had the preliminary round of their Coronation Cup on their fixture list and again there were a couple of surprising results. Third division’s Deer’s Leap Stags won 5-4 away to division one outfit Old Oscott Arrows and division three’s top team, Drakes Drum won their home tie with division one opponents Anvil Nomads 7-2.
First division leaders Plough and Arrows just got over the line with a 5-4 win away to second division’s White Lion, a match that produced nine 140’s. Sutton Sports required the last three legs to beat fellow division side Boldmere Sports 5-4.
The round produced two local derbies, Oscott Social Clarets going down 6-3 at home to Oscott Social Reds, while Pint Pot Flights won their home tie with Pint Pot Arrows 6-3.
Other winning teams were, Old Oscott WMC, Deer’s Leap, Pint Pot Nomads and Sportsmans Rest.

There was a top of the table clash in the Camp Hill League with leaders Sportsman travelling to take on second placed Forgers. The result was a very surprising 7-0 whitewash in favour of Forgers, inflicting the first defeat of the season on Sportsman. Nevertheless, Sportsman remain in pole position on 16 points with, Forgers Lady Westminster and Custard House all on 14 points, Custard House have played one game more than their rivals.

The Small Heath League staged their presentation knockout at the Emerald Club and taking the honours was Neil Parsonage, who had a final victory over Peter Yardley. Losing semi finalists were Brendan Lysaght and John O’Connor, with Chris Reed, John Cawley, Mark Kane and Mick Fowle all making their exits in the quarter finals.
Top score of 180 was hit by four players on the night, Mark Kane, Neil Parsonage, Paul Brown and Peter Yardley.
