The two local counties, Warwickshire and West Midlands both returned good results in their latest fixtures. Warwickshire, playing at home to high riding Cheshire in the premier division recorded their first win in three, a 20-16 result to lift them away from the foot of the promotion table.

Three of the teams, the men’s ’A’ and ‘B’ plus the ladies ‘A’ finished all square with Martin McGeeney (30.79), Steve Giddings (27.92) and Trina Gulliver (24.24) taking the respective match awards, but putting the icing on the cake were the ladies ‘B’ who with a lady of the match award by Angela Jones (20.76) won their game 5-1.

In division one West Midlands travelled to south Wales to take on Gwent and chalked up their second win in three games, a 19-17 victory. The men’s ‘A’ won 7-5, with Dean Stewart (29.91) their top man, Mark Watkiss (26.59) the man of the match in the ‘B’ teams 10-2 win.

It was not too good for the ladies as both teams went down 5-1. Jackie Crew (17.25) the ‘A’ sides winner and Jacqui Simmons (14.31) the only winner for the ‘B’ team.

This coming weekend West Midlands play hosts to Cornwall.

Cup week in the Four Oaks and District League and in the first round of the Brian Goodman Cup J.Morris jnr (Deer’s Leap) had a 170 break unfortunately it was not enough for his team to avoid a 6-3 defeat away to Sutton Sports. Biggest win of the round was provided by Plough and Arrows, who beat Boldmere Sports 8-1. There were 7-2 wins for Old Oscott WMC and Sportsmans Rest against respective opponents Oscott Social Reds and White Lion. Pint pot Nomads had a narrow 5-4 win at Old Oscott Arrows.

In the first round of the Ken Rust Cup Oscott Social Clarets and Brookvale in turn accounted for Deer’s Leap Stags and Bishop Vesey with 7-2 scorelines. Pint Pot Arrows beat Erdington Arrows 5-4.

The Punch Bowl preliminary round was on the agenda for the Sheldon and District Winter League. Four games were played and going through to the first round will be Scanlons, Saltley Amateur Gardeners, Old Bill and Bull and Yardley Arms at the expense of Holy Souls, Willclare Sports and Social, Castle Vale Residents Association and Greville Arms.

The Tamworth Sports Bar League were engaged in round two of their Brian Spencer Memorial Cup and in the last four league leaders Three Horse Shoes booked their final place with a clear 4-1 win over Wigginton. St Johns Club were made to fight for their 4-3 verdict by Globe ‘A’.

The Kingshurst and District Labour Club was the setting for both the TD Events UK Youth Open 2011 and the UK Amateur Open. In the first knockout the final was contested by Luis Barberan and Rhys Dudley, with the latter getting the 4-0 result plus £50 plus a trophy and a personalised shirt. As runner up Luis Barberan collected £25.

In the UK Amateur Open it was Paul Cook who picked up the winners £150, trophy and personalised shirt after beating Martin Kingsley 3-1 in the final. Kingsley collected £80 for his achievement as runner up.
