For many teams in the area the winter leagues have drawn to a close and the only outstanding matters have been the various cup matches.
Semi finals and finals were the order of the day for the Sheldon and District Winter League as they wound down their season to make way for the summer campaign.
Bagot Arms, who finished third from bottom in division one, provided the shock result of the Punch Bowl competition, when in the semi finals they took on premier division champions Olton RBL and beat them 6-3.The other semi was an all premier division clash between Kingshurst and District Labour Club and the Crown, with the former booking their place in the finals with the close 5-4 verdict.
Bagot Arms then went on to win the final 5-4 and make it a great double over premier opponents.
There were no such shocks in the Sheldon Shield semi finals as Old Bill and Bull took out Castle Vale Residents Association with a 5-4 scoreline and Pavilions recorded a massive 8-1 victory over Stechford Social. Old Bill and Bull went on to win the title with a 5-4 success in the final.
Premier league champions Olton RBL’s representative Andy Hutchings won the Vice Presidents Trophy, a final 2-1 verdict over New Firs Flights player Robbie Earl clinching his win.
Club secretaries and league officials did battle for the Jubilee Trophy and taking the honours was Clarke Horsley who represented the George V. Runner up was match secretary David Sutton, who narrowly lost out by 2-1.
The summer season has now got underway and at the time of print Bromford Bridge Exiles lead the way in group one having won all of their opening three fixtures.
In group two early leaders Bagot Arms lost the number one spot after losing 5-3 at home to second placed Kingshurst and District Labour Club. Sheldon Dukes are the new leaders following their 7-1 success against Brook Meadow.
New Firs Flights boast a 100% win record and lead group three, while in group four Holy Souls lead the way. It’s Maggies in top spot in group five and with their superior average Langley Hall Social top group six. Finally in group seven New Firs maintain their winning run to hold on to the top position.

On the fixture card for the Tamworth Sports Bar League was their doubles knockout which was won by Sam and Paul Whittaker, who defeated Richard Baker and Trevor Barrs in the final. Losing semi finalists were, Mac Tarbuck and Rob Oates plus Stuart Birch and Paul Richards.
The singles cup was won by Sam Whittaker, who beat Robert Oates in the final. Losing semi finalists were Richie Baker and Clyde Hooper and going out in the last eight Dave Jones, Ron Hunt, Paul Whittaker and Simon Caswell.
