The Sheldon and District Summer League have got their new season underway and have extended their group’s to seven this year. In group one all three fixtures finished with 5-3 scorelines, wins for Iron Horse, Bromford Bridge Exiles and Olton RBL over respective opponents Highwood Arrows, Riley’s Arrows and Mackadown Social.
Bagot Arms were the biggest winners in group two beating Brook Meadow 6-2, while in group three Highwood Flights beat their opponents, Castle Vale Residents Association 7-1, the same margin by which Holy Souls, in group four defeated Sheldon Social.
On the opening day of the new season no fewer than five maximums were recorded, they wee supplied by, I.McFarlane (Bromford Bridge Exiles), G.Stamps (Riley’s Arrows), K.Attwood (Olton RBL), M.Gilbert (Farthings) and A.Hawkins (Greville Arms).

The first round of the League Cup was on the agenda for the Small Heath League and Custard House romped to a massive 18-6 win in their tie with Devils. The other two games finished with much closer 13-11 margins, league leaders Mitre beating Redhill Tavern and second in the table Emerald Club winning away to Wagon and Horses.

Forest of Arden Winter League had their Mixed Doubles and Secretary’s Trophy on their schedule, the winner’s of the mixed doubles being Maureen Morahan and Luis Barberan. Taking the secretary’s crown was Neil Comerford.

Reigning Camp Hill champions Lady Westminster handed out a 7-0 whitewash in their latest fixture away to Scruffy Nurphy’s, but remain two points adrift of leaders Langley Hall, who had a convincing 6-1 win in their away game against the Roost.
There was also a 6-1 win for Clements Arms at home to Laddettes and in a rearranged fixture Devil’s Club beat Langley Hal Ladies by the same margin.

Winner of the Tamworth Sports Bar League’s Singles Cup was Sam Whittaker, who beat Robert Oates in the final. Losing semi finalists were Richie Baker and Clyde Hooper and going out in the last eight Dave Jones, Ron Hunt, Paul Whittaker and Simon Caswell.

There was a shock in division two of the Pip Club League as leaders Bolehall Swifts were held to an 8-8 draw at home against bottom of the table Bulls Head (Two Gates). Prior to the game Bolehall were boasting eight wins in as many games, but despite dropping their first points of the campaign, they remain in pole position on 17 points, two ahead of their nearest rivals Bulls Head (Polesworth) who had a close 9-7 win away to Travellers.
In division one top side Birchmoor Club bounced back from their first defeat of the season last week, a huge 12-4 loss at the hands of Belgrave Club, by winning 10-6 in their home game against bottom of the table Two Gates Club. Red Lion had an 11-5 win at the Dolphin and are level on the same 14 points as Birchmoor, but trail by just a few points of average .
