With the end of season fast approaching it’s been a busy time for the Sheldon and District Winter League staging various finals. First the singles knockout which saw a victory for Saltley Amateur Gardeners man P.Sinnet, a close 2-1 verdict over Crown’s N.Parsonage giving him the title. Both players won the last four games 2-0, Sinnett beating D.Marshall (Iron Horse) and Parsonage accounting for P.Yardley (Ridgemere Social).

Sinnet narrowly lost out on making it a great double when in the doubles competition he and his partner T.Webster lost 2-0 to the Sheldon Dukes pairing of M.Hicks and P.Sunner.

The premier division League Cup final was won by league champions Olton RBL, who with a convincing 7-2 result beat Kingshurst and District Labour Club I the final. Highwood ‘A’ also made it a great double by adding the division one league cup to their division one title, a massive 8-1 victory over Iron Horse sealing their double.

It was Yardley Ex Colts who won the second division cup, a narrow 5-4 result over Sheldon Social, and Langley Hall Sports and Social had a similar margin win over Shirley RBL Flights to win the third division’s cup.

The Forest of Arden Winter League had their League Cup on the agenda and the semi finals produced two huge wins. Olton RBL handed out a 15-0 whitewash to Chelmsley Town and not far behind them were Riley’s Flights who beat Sheldon Flights 12-3.

The final was a much closer affair with Olton RBL just getting the 8-7 verdict to lift the title.

Some big scores in the Pip Club League the biggest of all coming from division one leaders Birchmoor Club, who won 13-3 away to Dolphin, close behind Birchmoor were J.W.Belgrave and Red Lion, both winning 12-4 against respective opponents Sports Bar and Sports Bar 180.

In the second division it was the battle of the Bulls Head’s as the one from Two Gates hosted their namesake’s from Polesworth’s. The outcome was a convincing 12-4 win for the Polesworth side to keep them in second place in the table on eleven points, three behind Bolehall Swifts, who won their home tie with North Warwick Cricket Club 11-5.

The Gulp League staged their 401 Knockout on presentation night, Glynn Thomas from the Custard House winning the day with a final success over Wagon and Horses representative Andy Hegarty. Losing semi finalists were Peter Yardley (Emerald Club) and Mark Kane (Mitre).

In the Tamworth Sports Bar League champions Three Horse Shoes rounded off their programme with a 6-1 away win over Wigginton, taking their points tally to 150 and finishing 29 points ahead of their nearest rivals Sports Bar 180 who went one better and handed out a 7-0 trouncing to their opponents Globe ‘B’ to secure the runners up spot, Hustlers were third on 102 points.

In the players League Paul Whittaker from the Three Horse Shoes finished in pole position on51 points with runner up Mac Tarbuck (Riftswood) six points behind.
