The Divisional League Cup semi finals have been on the fixture card for the Sheldon and District Winter League and in the premier division Olton RBL continued their fine season with a 6-3 win over Saltley Amateur Gardeners. Joining them in the final will be Kingshurst and District Labour Club, who had a close 5-4 verdict against Red Lion.

The division one play off’s saw big wins for both Iron Horse and Highwood ‘A’, the former beating Yardley Arms 7-2, while the latter won 8-1 against Yardley Ex Flights.

Yardley Ex Colts won their division two semi against Small Heath Amateur Gardeners 5-4 and will now take on Sheldon Social in the final, Sheldon beating Highwood ‘B’ 7-2 in the last four. The division three final will feature Langley Hall Sports and Social Club and Shirley RBL Flights, both winning their semi final games 5-4 against respective opponents New Firs and Ridgemere Social.

With a 7-2 win over Ivy Leaf Flights followed by a 5-4 success against Meadway Sports and Social Club, Stechford Social became this season’s winners of the M & B Cup.

Congratulations to Leamington who with a total of 143 points are the champions of the Warwickshire Men’s Super League. Birmingham Hall Green finished as runners up some 30 points behind the winners and third placed Coventry Bishopsgate a further 28 points adrift.

For the first time in six games Lady Westminster lost their 100% win record in the Camp Hill League, going down 4-3 at home to third in the table Langley Hall. However, with 10 points Lady Westminster remain in pole position, two points to the good over Clements Arms, Langley Hall and The Roost, all three on 8 points.

The Small Heath Summer League got underway this week and the opening games of the season saw 6-2 wins for both Emerald Club and Mitre, in turn defeating Wagon and Horses and Redhill Tavern. Close behind the leading duo is Custard House who won their home tie with local rivals Custard House Flights 5-3.

The three matches saw an encouraging start to the campaign with 67 scores of 100 or over, two maximums, scored by Mitre’s D.Lacey and M.Fowle and a 106 finish provided by G.Daly from the Wagon and Horses.

This coming Saturday the Coventry Open will be staged at Warwickshire’s Darts organisation’s home venue the Bishopsgate Club, Foleshill Road, Coventry, CV1 4LF, and subject to the number of entries a total prize pot of in excess of £1,000 will be paid out, the eventual winner collecting £600 with prize money paid out down to the last sixteen.

The Doug Brown Memorial Trophy was staged at the Raven, Hodge Hill and was won by Wayne Mynard, who beat Pete Gould 4-1 in the final. Wayne had beaten Sean O’Donnell 3-0 in the last four, while Gould accounted for Wayne Bowen with a 3-1 scoreline.

The event raised a fabulous £85 for cancer research.

Congratulations go this week to the Bulls Head (Two Gates) who for the first time this season, after six games, chalked up their first win in the second division of the Pip Club League. Playing at home Bulls Head had a 9-7 victory over middle of the table Queens Head, but still remain at the foot of the table on 2 points, one adrift of the team above them, North Warwick Cricket Club.

This coming Sunday TD Events will be running a “Round Robin” competition at the New Firs, Shawdales Road, Castle Bromwich, B36 8NG. Entry is £8, and £12 on the day with all monies paid in split as prize money, 40% for the winner, 20% for the runner up, 10% for the losing semi finalists and 5% for the quarter finalists.
