The journey to Essex to take on the local county in the Premier division of the Riley’s BDO Inter County Championships was not a good one for Warwickshire and leaves them in the relegation danger zone with just one more fixture to play.
All four of the teams lost, for the men Mark McGeeney (30.24) was the ‘A’ side’s top player in a 7-5 defeat while Dave Sanders (28.90) took the ‘B’ teams award as they went down 9-3, only their second defeat of the campaign and after five consecutive wins.
Trina Gulliver (27.33) was the sole winner for the ladies ‘A’ and Angela Jones (18.85) emulated that in the ‘B’ teams 5-1 reversal.
The overall score was a 26-10 win for Essex leaving Warwickshire third from bottom on125 points, below them Surrey on 124 and bottom of the table Cornwall with 121. The final game of the season, a home tie against middle of the table Kent will be vital to Warwickshire’s premier division survival.
