The Four Oaks and District League got their Coronation Shield underway this week when they staged the preliminary round. The Sportsmans Rest overcame a battling Dragons side with a 9-0 whitewash, while the Fox ‘A’ claimed an 8-1 success over Aston Social. Anvil Nomads, Fox and Dogs and Sutton Sports in turn had comfortable 7-2 wins against Deer’s Leap Stags, Pint Pot Flights and Old Oscott Arrows. Third division Oscott Social Reds were paired with division two’s Oscott Social Clarets in a local derby which saw the Reds come back from 4-2 down to snatch a 5-4 victory. Third division outfit The Gate gave a good performance against first division opponents Fox ‘B’ narrowly losing out 5-4.

D.Baker (Red Arrows) recorded the third division’s first maximum and K.Clarke (Grave Diggers) became the first female to find the three treble twenties this season. D.Shannon chalked up Oscott Social Clarets third maximum.

The quarter finals of the league cup were on the menu for the Sheldon and District Winter league. Saltley Amateur Gardeners were the biggest winners in the premier division recording an 8-1 win at Old Bill and Bull. Olton RBL and Kingshurst Labour Club both had narrow 5-4 wins over respective opponents Sheldon Dukes and Crown.

In division one Iron Horse beat Meadway Sports and Social 7-2, while Yardley Arms won 6-3 at home to Bagot Arms, Yardley Ex Flights won by the same margin against Castle Vale Residents Association. Division two winners were Small Heath Amateur Gardeners, Yardley Ex Colts and Highwood ‘B’, and going through to the last four in division three are New Firs, Langley Hall Sports and Social and Shirley RBL Flights.

The league would like to remind all team secretaries that the next meeting, scheduled for the 16th January has now been moved to the 23rd January.

The Forest of Arden Winter League have been engaged in the preliminary round of their League Cup. Riley’s Flights had a massive 14-1 away win in their game at the Harvester. Sheldon Arrows were also high scorers as they defeated Greville Arrows 11-4. Olton RBL had a convincing 10-5 success in their home tie with Kenny’s Boys and joining the other winners will be third in the league table Old Bill and Bull who had a close 8-7 win over second placed Riley’s Red Arrows.

The Gulp League produced a top of the table clash when leaders Tigers played hosts to their nearest rivals and reigning champions Tribe. The outcome was a 5-2 win for the home side giving them a total of 12 twelve points and leaving the Tribe, who have dropped to third in the table behind Rebels, 8 points. Rebels have moved up not only because of Tribe’s demise but also due to the fact that they handed out a 9-0 whitewash to bottom of the table Tigerettes, putting them just two points behind Tigers.

The top two teams in the Camp Hill League, Roost and Lady Westminster played each other on the Roost’s board, but home advantage did not prove the case as Lady Westminster ran out 4-3 winners to take them within four points of Roost at the top of the table.
