In the third premier division fixture of the Riley’s BDO Inter Counties Championships Warwickshire travelled north to take on Cheshire, however, their journey did not produce the first win of the season they so badly needed.

It was losses all round as the men’s ‘A’ went down 9-3 and the ‘B’ 8-4, while the ladies both finished on the wrong side of a 4-2 result. Match awards went to Prakash Jiwa (‘A’ 26.85), Jamie Atkins (‘B’ 29.24), Trina Gulliver (‘A’ 27.33) and Wendy Adams (‘B’ 16.94). The result has seen Warwickshire drop to the foot of the table on 39 points, seven adrift of both Glamorgan and Cornwall.

The county are in action again this coming weekend and now they are desperate for a win and points to help lift them into the safety zone. The opposition comes in the form of fifth placed Cambridgeshire and will be played at the Bishopsgate Club, Foleshill Road, Coventry. In division one West Midlands will be making the long trek to the south west to Widcombe Social Club, Bath, where they will take on Somerset. In division two of the Four Oaks and District League third placed Royal Oak played hosts to forth in the table Oscott Social Clarets. The result was a 6-3 win for Clarets to take them above Royal Oak and four points behind the unbeaten leaders Pint Pot Flights, who had a narrow 5-4 home win against second from bottom Drakes Drum.

In the first division three teams Sutton Sports, The Fox and Old Oscott Arrows all have eight points at the top of the table, Sutton Sports beat Sportsmans Rest 6-3 and Old Oscott Arrows won by the same margin at Fox and Dogs, the Fox had a bye.

Tamworth Sports Bar League got their new season underway with a new format of 701 and it looks as if it will be a closely fought campaign if the first round of results are anything to go by as all five matches ended with close 4-3 wins. The winners were, Hustlers, Sports Bar 180, Globe ‘A’, Globe ‘B’ and Three Horse Shoes against respective opponents St Johns Club, Wigginton, Riftswood, Market Vaults and Mile Oak Rovers.

In week two of the Small Heath League only two teams, Custard House and Emerald Club are able to boast a 100% win record and they have played just one fixture as opposed to the two played by the other teams. Hay Mills Social rest at the foot of the table, the only team without a win so far.

Redhill Tavern Flights, bottom of division three in the Sheldon and District Winter League, chalked up their first win of the season when they defeated next to bottom New Firs 6-3. Despite the win Redhill remain rooted at the foot of the table however, they do have two games in hand on New Firs who have just two more points than them.

In the premier division Olton RBL, on a maximum 14 points have a four point’s advantage over their nearest rivals Kingshurst Labour Club and also a game in hand. In division one, Highwood ‘A’ the only other unbeaten team in the league have two games in hand on second placed Holy Souls and two points ahead of them.
